I'd wish for a direct line to Mike whenever I click on 'help' 😁Better yet, a voice-activation Mike that answers the question "Aw, how do I do that?" every time I get stuck... Hope that appears in a future video!

Excellent video, I've often double tracked a vocal, but never experimented with minute pitch shifting. I'm away to try this now, thanks Mike, your a real star mate.
This is awesome, mate! Perfect explanation. Perfect delivery. Perfect tutorial! PS: i like your speakers. Looks neat. That's the only thing lacking in my studio now.
We recorded an original Samba jazz song I wrote and I applied the technique to the lead flute. The flautist has a beautiful custom made wooden flute and this thickening technique just sounded absolutely gorgeous on it! Thanks again, Mike!
Thank you for Cakewalk by BandLab - step-by-step tutorial - on this technique. I did like Warren Huart's' video, but yours was just perfect as I am a long time Cakewalk enthusiast and rookie at mixing all things DAW. You're the best, Mike.
Very much appreciate what you for for Cakewalk. I was one of the original cakewalk users (in the old days!). I was doing some recording almost a couple years ago and then got off it. So I needed desperately to review and also learn some new tricks. Your videos are a Godsend. If I can't figure it out from watching your videos, then I don't need to do it! Thanks again.
Mike, I tried your vocal thickening and it worked well. I add the differing EQs on each track as well. But I went a step further. I wanted to have a single vocal sound for the verses but wanted a "choir" effect for the chorus. So I routed all the duplicates to a VOX Dup bus and then used automation to have them come in and shine more during the chorus. Thanks so much buddy for the excellent content.
Iron mike, dropping some b15 knowledge bombs on us! I love your videos and you've singlehandedly helped me get better at producing. The difference between my first effort and the 2nd effort after your vids was night and day. Thanks my dude
This is a more complex version of something I have played with from time to time. My approach changed the length and thus the timing to mimic 'doubling', as you never sing (or play etc) the song 100% exactly the same no matter how good you are. I wasn't adding the pitch changes, so i want to try that. I also was not working with 4 pairs. Good info, even though i don't use Cake Walk, this approach will work in any DAW. I will definitely watch other videos for tips and tricks that are universal in general. Always a good day when I learn something new. - Cheers
I have used a similar method using eq’s , just to fatten it up ( yes and the pitch and delay but processed using a tc helicon voice live rack ) thanks , keep up the great videos ( I learn something new every time )
Great video Mike, I have used this effect on an audio book book my partner is creating and the results were great, surprisingly better than using a vocal doubling plug-in.
Agree. One thing I hate about plug ins, is you get a million people sounding all the same. I hear it in Pop and 'New Country', where every record sounds like they all used the same 4 plugins. I hear a band live, and like them, then hear the record and I can't listen to it. - Cheers
I also named the vocal dups as follow Vox P3 (positive 3 to get 10 milliseconds) and M3 (minus 3 to get 10 milliseconds) and so on P6 M6 P9 M9. I had accidently put the wrong vocals in and I was able to delete and replace and then it was easy to add the thickening technique.
An idea for another video is what needs to be done when mastering to prepare a track(s) to be sent to the record company and to online services. I am close to getting ready to master and haven’t released anything since the old tape days...online services are totally new to me, too.
The thing you want to think about is to give headroom(volume) to the masterer. In that way, you provide the masterer something to work with. You can send your track and ask them what you need to do.
It’s a great technique, I have been using Waves Doubler, but I’m going to give this a go on my next song. Warren gave a great demo, but this is made it clearer using it through Cakewalk and steps are relevant to the use of program.
Will the shortcuts work with the regular numbers? i dont have a numpad unfortunately lol Great video! Been trying to up my engineering to release better music and do everything myself, and this channel definitely helps.
Basically this was only a manual way of adding chorus effect to the audio. This can be done using chorus effect vst plugins which follows certain algorithms which are certainly not in so much of control of ours, but they are meant to deliver nice outputs faster than you would get by duplicating the tracks and adjusting the things for every track. There are dozens of free plugins for the same. Yea I admit that this manual technique gives a really decent and sweet effect.
With duplicate tracks I make, I like to go heavy on effects such as chorus, delay and reverb, with the main vocal track being mostly dry other than a tiny hint of overdrive. I also offset duplicate tracks by a few milliseconds to help fatten things up.
I love your channel. You are a great teacher and your productions are professional. I would like to make a video request... How to do gang vocals with only one person.
First off Mike, your tutorials are freaking awesome! I have learned so much in just the couple of weeks that I have been subscribed and wish to someday be as efficient as you are. I have a question regarding microphones, I have an MXL 990 and 991 condenser mic pack I purchased from Guitar Center years ago and haven't really used much because I have a hard time MAKING time for recording. My question/problem is that on a few of my vocal recordings, during playback, sound as if I have used a pitch shift and makes my voice almost shrill and quite thin. My recording booth is a small closet that I have added sound dampening padding to but I'm not sure if the space is just too small and still getting bouncing sounds or is my voice really that "off-sounding"? From different people I have been told that my vocals are smooth and strong but from what I am hearing, I think people are just trying to make me feel better. Can you make a video that shows more in depth, how to set vocal levels and any tips on getting that perfect track recorded. Much appreciation and thanx for taking the time. 🤘😵💫👍
Very good video once again, thanks a lot! Funny enough, I've read about this delay/pitch trick on vocals in a mixing book (written by Uli Eisner) from the analog days and used it on my very first projects back in the early 2000s (on a Pentium 2, mind you...). It's a decent alternative to double tracked vocals in case the singer has trouble nailing down two tight tracks (which I was never really capable of...). So I highly appreciate the reminder to experiment with that technique again in upcoming projects!
Spot on as always. I've been doing this manually on vocals and guitars forever and never used the nudge feature. Now I will (nudge nudge wink wink say no more)!! :) That'll be a huge time saver in my workflow. Thanks Mike.

Worked a treat on a female lead vocal I had been struggling to make shine, thanks a lot Mike and also Warren Huart
Awesome! So glad to my hear this!
I want Mike floating in a blue bubble telling me recording tips 24/7.
Its a new meditation. ommmmm

Today is my first day ever learning Cakewalk and I'm so glad to have found this tutorial. Thank you!
Welcome!
I never noticed that you can simply change the pitch under "Groove clip". Thanks Mike!
A lot of these videos have bonus learning!

Thanks Tony. I can't really take much credit, but I'm glad you found it's useful.
Mike that was awesome . Those vocals went from just ok to huge and full of life . Thanks my friend . Also the shortcuts are very helpful .

Good luck! Make it your own, experimentation with this s fun.
