    Hey folks, I probably didn’t make clear in the video - you DO need to update to version 2024.02, if you wish to continue using the free version of Cakewalk. Earlier versions will cease to activate in the future!

      Mike, I have the latest update of Cakewalk by Bandlab shown in your video (29.9.0.98. Is that sufficient or is the 2024.02 required to use it in perpetuity? If so, where may that be found?

      Do we have a definitive answer on this yet? To upgrade or not? That’s the question. I’m also wondering if there will a final version of CWbBL that we can download in .exe form and continue to use like they did when Sonar was acquired by BandLab?

      Please consider looking into open source applications like LMMS, Audacity, and Rosegarden.
      They are wonderful free workstations that can be used individually or combined to do everything cakewalk does. It's free and supported by donations. Music making will be open to all.

    Been using the same CakeWalk Sonar version for the last 20 years. Running only on WIN95 and WIN7. Paid only once for my Sonar, no paid updates, lots of years of use, but age has long since passed this up. So, this year will be buying a MAC loaded with Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro. 12 years ago I bought a Zoom hardware 24 track recorder and stopped using computers for my music. Logic Pro will only be used for mastering my 2 track stereo finished song.

    I wonder why some people tends to say that CbB is not good, is not a complete DAW, is not bla bla bla, on a Cakewalk web page! I'm not a professional musician, therfore I don't make money with my music. But I'm very happy to have CbB free, and have hours of fun with it without any problems. Many thanks to Mike's videos about configuration and especially Tweaking Windows for music production. th-cam.com/video/-FAHqrphv9k/w-d-xo.html

    I am also one of the people who got into Cakewalk early (1990?) and paid a lot of money over the years to keep updated on its successor, Sonar. But I just found I lost interest (read: "didn't have time") to continue with music production. Your channel was what got me back into it as I love your teaching style and honesty. However, I have now switched to Studio 1 and I'm really grateful that you have created a channel specifically for that. I'm not sure that a new Cakewalk channel will be of use to me as I'll be sticking with Studio 1 and I really hope that you continue to make tutorials for it. Then again, whatever channel it is, you always add in some great nuggets of non-DAW-specific knowledge. Great work as always Mike. Thanks so much.

    I paid into Cakewalk since 1995 😮
    Got let down when the last big paid upgrade for a lifetime sub suddenly turned into a selloff to Bandlab, which then turned into a Free version.
    I waited so long for this, that I have now been with Studio One Pro. Cant see myself switching back to Cakewalk again now. I love S1 so much.

    I've been holding off before purchasing another Daw waiting for the new Sonar after the announcement. just using Sonar Platnum and FL studio with Cakewalk slow rolling not given any info on the release date and zero correspondence for weeks after being chosen for the Bata, I'm starting to lose faith after being dedicated to Sonar for many years. Hopefully, there will be some news on what the heck is going on with Sonar. Thanks for staying on top of it.

      Thanks for your reply Jason, I did sign up and was accepted for the Bata testing for Sonar months ago, and as you know it never happened. Personally, I'm getting p*ssed / frustrated with Bandlap knowing the interest and supporters of many Sonar users, and I'm sure they are aware of the many dedicated people interested in the new Sonar but their attitude at this point seems to be mute and none caring, so I'm about to do the same. As soon as Studio One has an aggressive sale I may jump on it. Peace & Blessings Jason

    In light of previous announcements, I "proactively" switched to Reaper by the end of last year, after several weeks of testing. I really like it and think it's a much more robust, and certainly more customisable, workstation; and paying $60 wasn't a huge sacrifice. So now I wouldn't want to go back to Cakewalk even if they announce they've decided to keep the "by Bandlab" version free...

    • @FriedTheo
      @FriedTheo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tried reaper but found that I needed to menu dive too much. Have they gone some way to fixing that? I'd love to try it again.

    • @bruslaw
      @bruslaw 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FriedTheoI don't know what it was like when you gave it a go, my first contact with Reaper was in autumn of last year, version 7.xx. There's certainly a learning curve, everything seemed backwards at first compared to Cakewalk. But I don't remember excessive menu-diving as being my primary concern. Any everyday tasks are easily performed using context menus or graphic elements of the interface; for actions not accessible this way you can create custom toolbars or keyboard shortcuts, and you can also customise mouse behaviour for editing tasks. Thanks to those customisations I found my workflow and am able to work very quickly.
      Besides, Reaper is a much more stable platform, it hardly ever crashes. The software itself, projects, and plugins load at lightning speeds compared to Cakewalk. And, although this is just my subjective impression - I haven't done any rigorous tests, I believe it's also kinder to the CPU. I seem to be able to have more active plugins running on more tracks before the DAW starts to stutter.

    • @rano12321
      @rano12321 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@FriedTheo you can find everything you'd need in the action list, you can set custom hotkeys, you can turn them into buttons in your toolbar, you can even combine multiple of them to create macro or create complex cycle actions without any menu dive.

    Subscribed! I actually cut my in-the-box music making teeth on a version of Cakewalk so old, it didn't even have clips! As far as I can remember, it was laid out like a grid of sorts and there were dots representing something recorded. I got away from it then picked it up again at versions 7 through 9 and wrote an entire opera using just the notation function. When I decided to get more serious about it all, that's when I heard of Studio One.
    Anyway, I'd love to play around with Cakewalk again, so I look forward to the new channel!

    This totally makes sense, I'll be subscribed to both because you have a lot of knowledge to share and I like the way you do it. I haven't made my mind up about what I will do when the new products are launched yet but I like your vids either way. Thanks for being more transparent than Bandlab 😉

    Another honest and informative video. Ive been using Cakewalk Since X1 and made the jump from X2 to Cakewalk after discovering your channel. Whichever way you decide to go ill be there because I agree, your teaching style is very clear and calm. All the best in this new chapter!

    Thanks Mike for continuing to support Cakewalk by BandLab with a new dedicated channel. I purchased your beginner course a while back and have watched many of your videos on how to use Cakewalk to make the most of it for producing better quality music. Your teaching style and skills are second to none and this has inspired me to move from recording cover songs to creating my own, which I didn't think I could do a couple of years ago. I continue to learn with each new project.

    Mike, Thank YOU for all the wonderful videos on Cakewalk.
    I owned and used FIRST version of Cakewalk sequencer in 1988 running on my laptop (Kaypro 2000) connected to my Korg DS-8. Love all your Cakewalk videos.

    Thanks for all your efforts regarding Cakewalk, Mike. They've helped a lot. I've already subscribed to the new channel and will look forward to seeing more videos in the future. Unless Cakewalk does something really stupid to turn me off when the new program is released, I plan to continue using the DAW I've loved for so many years.

    Of course I'm subscribed. Where would I be without you? Well, I'd probably be right here struggling to make sense of music production generally, and Cakewalk in particular, but without the life-saving help you provide. Keep up the good work - I (we!) need you.

    You have been my "go too" since I came across this channel. I loaded cakewalk because of your vids. I have Studio one but use Cakewalk primarily for mixing my live band recordings. Your instructions are clear and accurate. I can't tell you how often I used your vids as a reference tool, especially in the early months of using Cakewalk. I will follow you to whatever channel you add. Consider me subscribed already !

    Your channel is a go to source for me in cakewalk related use, as well as your Facebook page. You're a good teacher and have a way of explaining things in a simple and understandable way so keep teaching us things and make sure it's with free plugins! Haha. Thanks again.

    Mike,
    I really like your style, your values. Your integrity shines through. There is no doubt about whether or not I will continue to watch your videos. I have already subscribed to your new channel (912 members at the time I did) and look forward to the future content.
    When you got towards the end of this video and began to let us know of your business-based decision I was worried that you were going to say that you would in future be concentrating solely on Studio One. If you had I probably would have switched DAWs!
    Anyway, thanks for the good news and rest assured I'm rooting for you!

    Thanks Mike for everything you've done over the years holding my hand with cakewalk from first steps through more advanced stuff (technical description) Thank you also for giving me months ago a heads up about what was happening with Bandlab when I made the choice to try out Live Lite by buying a launchpad. Found it so intuitive and easy to use I upgraded to Standard 12 and can't see myself ever looking back. Wish you all the best in the future and will stay tuned to this channel for all things non Cakewalk relate. Bets of luck.

    I am 73 and been using CbB for a few years and learnt a lot from your videos (been subscribed a while). You are a great teacher with a very clear easy to follow style. I don't want to learn a new DAW so will be subscribing to your new channel. Keep up the good work.
