    Excelent review! You have solved the question of whether to buy and carry a windshield (particularly this Optimus one) with butane burners... It makes quite a difference, both in time and fuel burned. Thank you for your effort...

    The Optimus screen makes the BRS 3000 T stove run too hot to the touch (can't hold the knob to turn it off) AND it really heats the canister itself. The main reason is, its very short and the flame really heats the windscreen itself. Primus used to sell a similar poduct, they had to recall and discontinued it because of the risk of the canister exploding... I use the windscreen now with my Jetboil Stash (tight fit) without any issues.

      Hmm, have just ordered a Stash and was wondering whether this windshield would be a good idea. I see it weighs 80g though so it would bring the Stash system to 300g including stabiliser legs - not so much less than my Minimo which is ok in wind - plus a gas canister of course. I’m also thinking that the windshield might get in the way when I light the stove as I lean out of my tent. Perhaps I need to use the Stash for a bit to see how wind blown it gets…

      @@petergilbert72 if it’s windy get the Optimus screen. The only negative is that the folding “legs” of the stove touch very so slightly ihe internal walls of the windscreen but we are talking tens of a millimeter causing some very light marks (you can avoid that by installing some aluminum foil sticker in that specific spot). The windscreen does work when windy as the Stash’s has a larger than usual (ex. Soto) gap between the burner and the pot and the flame gets blown away. It’s not nearly as bad as with the BRS but still noticeable. I tried it in bad wetsuit incl. rain and it did its job, no interference when lighting it up whatsoever :)

      I use the BRS 3000T as well, one thing I will say about it is it normally is too hot to touch the knob, wind screen or not. But the fact you say it heats up the cannister is what concerns me. Guess I'll have to try it and see how it works for me.

    I’ve been carrying mine for a couple yrs now. I think it is worth it. Pot is msr titan kettle with a pocket rocket 2 and small canister. The screen fits around and very compact. And light. Also works with gsi stainless 1.1l boiler. I’m happy with mine

      does canister top gets too warm or hot at any time using this windshield?

    • @GuyonaMoose
      @GuyonaMoose 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vvs3796 it warms it up some but I’ve not an issue. Works to advantage below zero but the whole design is no good in very cold. Need

      @vvs3796 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GuyonaMoose yeah, obviously in very cold, systems like msr reactor would be working OK only.
      I had some doubts using this windscreen, as any wi dshield around gas canister not recommended, and I did notice on my tests it can get little hot. but I guess in the wind and for just boiling 2 cups should be alright.. thanks..

    Just curious, how well do you think it blocks the wind with the BRS 3000T stove? That stove tends to be very wind sensitive. Recently out backpacking I had a couple nights where the stove would barely heat the water at all. That's mainly why I want it. It seems like it wasn't super windy when you did your tests. My concern is the BRS stove is relatively short, and there are a bunch of vent holes at the bottom of that wind shield. Does it let a lot of wind through, or do you feel this thing blocks the wind pretty well?

    Great review and measurements, thanks a lot. The only unclear for me how much excactly water you are boiling, 500ml ?, 2 cups could be different. Thats is useful for comparison of msr reactor I have and is it worth the weight for 12 days solo trekking. Also it would be great to have the windshield made from titanium.
