  • The Bible of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church includes a number of books not found in the Catholic or Protestant canons. The Book of Enoch was considered scripture to many early Christians and Jews, including the author of the New Testament Book of Jude. John Hamer of Toronto Centre Place looks at this interesting apocalypse with its vision of angels and devils and consider its context within the apocalyptic tradition.
    Topics in this lecture include:
The Ethiopic Book of Enoch, Book of Genesis, Apocrypha.

The ancient Ethiopic church accepted and still includes the book of Enoch as being part of the Biblical canon.

the revolutionary thought I gleaned from the book of enoch is that "demons are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim (giants) destroyed in the flood." the new testament talks a lot about Jesus doing exorcisms and casting out devils (demons) but gives no explanation for what they are or where they are from. and so this piece of information was a big eye opener for me. another interesting extra biblical text is the book of Jasher where it says that "God flooded the earth because mankind was mixing species together (ie genetic engineering) the bible just says all flesh became corrupted but the extra info in jasher is mind blowing, especially when you realize only recently has mankind started doing that same thing again. whether just mixing viruses or full blown pig human hybrids.

as i read through these comments, it becomes apparent how inflexible many christians are. i think we are lucky to take this knowledge and freely interpret it as we wish. christianity encompasses so many different groups with different beliefs, with protestant denominations & non-denominational groups estimated in the tens of thousands. it is unfortunately exceedingly common for christians to become ruffled & offended when presented with another’s idea that differs from their own. take it, or don’t. why should another’s point of view evoke anger & hatred? i imagine it will be difficult to fit a head & heart filled with anger & hatred through the pearly gates. hmmm?

Several people have made comments on the English pronunciation of Biblical names. People in North America have traditionally drawn upon Genesis (and the rest of the Bible) for names. As such, English pronunciations exist for these names that differ from the way contemporary Hebrew is pronounced and is also different from some reconstructed ancient Hebrew pronunciation. Thus, Abraham is "AY-bruh-ham" in English not "ah-brah-HAHM," Joseph is "JOE-suff" in English not "YEW-siff," and Enoch is "EE-nick" in English not "KHE-nookh." Enoch was a much more common name in 19th century North America than it is today, but the name in English is pronounced "EE-nick." We have the same conventions when using Roman names in English. For example, we call Caesar "SEE-zer" instead of "KAI-sar" and we say "SISS-er-oh" for Cicero, instead of "KEEK-air-oh".

A comparable example could be found in "The Dukes of Hazard" where the character of the deputy has another, similar Biblical name "Enos". The show portrays the traditional American pronunciation of that name: EE-nuss, (rather than "ee-NOSS"). I appreciate that if you live on the coast in the Northeast, you may have access to people influenced by modern Hebrew pronunciation, rather than standard English pronunciation.

Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. [Judges 16:1]
And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. [Genesis 19:33-36]
And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: [Genesis 35:22]
And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her. [Genesis 38:2]
And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. [Genesis 38:8-9]
When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face. And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me? And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it? And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him. What is most interesting is what is missing (yet we have very solid evidence, all over the world, of amazing technologies resulting in great, indeed perplexingly difficult to explain megalithic structures) are books on architecture, math and astronomy : all of which where employed not only in the pre historic writing, but in churches, temples, mosques and just about every other imaginable structure used for places of worship by not only biblical peoples, but peoples all around the earth. The idea that the sciences used in these surviving arts were not side by side with other religious writings is a rather strange, if not suspect, fact.

Those of us who grew up in Africa were thought by our ancestors that once upon a time giants lived amongst us as citizens all over black Africa and they were black peoples who spoke our languages just like you see elephants and mammoths looking like the same species and different. It’s the only reason why ancient Egyptian buildings were over 15 to 30 feet tall. In west Africa especially Nigeria some of them existed until few centuries ago and some were soldiers and their exploits were passed down the ages including their names and what villages or towns produced them and some were royalty and there was a recorded history of a great king an Oba of Bini empire who wiped them out and make it looked like he beheaded only one giant who was as tall as the African palm tree 🌴 because he saw him as a political threat to his throne to have someone that strong walking around in his army. I’m Asian one survived and was filmed being honoured by the imperial Japanese army and their king. It’s on tape on TH-cam. A normal giant so huge the world tallest people on guineas books of records looked sick and diseased compared to that one. The last one in Nigeria used to pull out trees from the ground like a bull elephant and beat his enemy ti death with it on the battle field. He was a crown prince forbidden to rule so his kind can die out. His statue is in Nigeria today. Mankind probably wiped out the remnants of giants out of fear like was done in America by native Americans who buried them alive in a cave.

(I wish I remember where I found this source, please forgive me)
Enoch was ascended into Heaven via a fiery chariot guided by an "Angel of the Moon/Sun" into the layers of Paradise. The Angel's name was of Hebrew origin and if Enoch was Egyptian, that would make for a interesting allegory or Epic about dual perspectives both ascending and learning together as one.

Basically John's Revelations mirrors ENOCH'S (not Enik) the end of days narrative,.
ENOCH, (not Enik), was an important patriarch in Judaic culture, but then the compilation of scriptures does not reflect Judaic culture.
Jesus's relative, Jude states in his very short scripture, something along the lines of, "Enoch, seventh from Adam, etc...."
So, The Book of Enoch is inconvenient for those who had Jesus executed on their watch, particularly when they eventually adopted Christ worship to eventually replace their previous gods.
The New testament is coloured with a Roman occupied Palestine, which gave the Jewish populace a certain amount of autonomy.
A big deal is made of Ponteous Pilate washing his hands when the mob chose Barrabas for clemency.
When asked what to do with Jesus, the mob yelled "crucify him".
Now, I wasn't there, but whoever recorded the verdict of the mob, accurately or otherwise, blame over time, would be laid at the local populace.
The point of this preamble, is that the scriptures and text that make up the bible were flavoured in favour of a Roman Empire's change of worship.
So anything, that was contrary to new Roman thinking wasn't included.

Not canonized in the "mainstream" Christian Bibles because the early church fathers were spineless. Without this book, one cannot completely understand Gen 6, the Great Deluge, the destruction of the Canaanites, the flat earth and the correct movement of the sun, moon and stars. 1 The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be 2 living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. And he took up his parable and said -Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is 3 for to come. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them:

Little known fact - during the time of Paul and the apostles turkey was not only Greek speaking. There were large sections that were Armenian speaking where according to the tradition saints Thaddeus and Bartholomew actually spread the gospel there where this was considered the first country to accept Christianity. My grandmother was from there.

Yes, who lost his nerve after fomenting righteous indignation against the corrupt practices of powerful clergy. What a shameful thing to do - cost so much loss of life - so it transpired that it was not a brave move to pin those objections to the church doors but a foolhardy one, since he ultimately lost his nerve when he'd have best served humanity to at least mouth the truths one last time and let the social contract be rewritten.
Jesus too turned the tables but wraught little change inspite of martyrdom - which is why it probably never happened.
When I passed through University I tried my best to take the subject of 'The Bible as Literature' but it always clashed with my majors. There was no TH-cam nor Google - they weren't far off but am I ever so glad to at last place this all too human obssession with fantasy in a context that makes literary sense.
It's time all this fan fiction be venerated as the precursor to all the meta heroes who being larger than life have served people in times of social development or upheaval.
The time is here and now that many heroes will step up and pull all our heads into the game. Time to unite humanity under the glorious banners that these visionaries are soon to roll out. Time to stop differentiating and accept that people are ALL we can know, ALL that we've ever known - and beget some smart kids to play with and to master the shiny new toys - that once, long ago, were the fevered day dreams of fine but humble humans.

I think you meant to say that "You *spoke* as if." Aside from you starting your point off with that grammatical error & almost losing all creditability right off the bat... your point is lame. This is not a lecture on religion, it is a lecture on the historical piece of literature/text that ACTUAL PHYSICALLY EXISTS. No religion is being taught in this lecture, nor being debated here in this video (or lecture/lesson).
You confusing the point of this lecture with a religious debate, or opinionated lecture, just goes to show how ignorant the majority of religious folks can be. Religious people can't seem to separate the teachings of the actual history and the preachings of God. The two subject matters are different despite them having common text(s), stories, etc involved.
