3m30 " 10w 40 " has a viscosity grade or 10 when cold & 40 when hot" ... but oil is thicker when cold & thinner when hot , I would have expected it so say 80w 40 for example.. . So something else is going on with this W scale . Is it 10w 40 ... when cold this oil is as thick as a old style SAE10 would be when cold , but when its hot it is like as SAE 40 oil? When SAE is measured at 100c. A old SAE40 oil would be very thick at 0c

It answered my questions in part. Appreciated the little viscosity and SAE info with moving graphic while explaining.
However, could Castrol add the explanation for the LL and A3/B4 designations on products such as Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 A3/B4 and Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL.

Please advise can I use 5W40 grade fully synthetic oil in my renault triber instead of 15W40 semi synthetic oil recommended by the manufacturer?

I’m glad this has popped up. Why is it your website states that 507.00 is fine for use in PD diesels engines, when the people that made the engine say it is not, and you must continue to use 505.01? That would be very convenient seeing as it appears you don’t make 505.01 any more, but I’d rather not wreck my engine when two sources say two very different things…

    Simple and effective, thank you!
Got a question that perhaps somebody can help me out, since I asked 100 people, and I've got 100 different answers:
I've got an urban motorbike, 107 cubic centimeters engine. The manufacturer suggests a 15W40 motor oil. I've always choosen mineral oils and avoid semi and synthetics ones for a number of reasons not important here. My question is: does ANY mineral 15W40 engine oil works just the same independently of the brand? I'm asking cause there're a lot of brands available and prices vary wildly, despite all being the same norm. There's no suggested brand from the manufacturer, just the type of oil.
    For example (not real prices):
Motorcraft 15w40 mineral is 1 buck.
Castrol Gtx 15w-40 is 5 bucks.
Puma Hd Super 15w40 is 10 bucks.
All have the same specs, don't they? They're all 15w40, mineral. But they are all change in price. I know you're gonna tell me to buy Castrol for obvious reasons, but I'm genuinely asking if there are any differences and if a 107cc motorbike will handle it just the same, regardless of the brand.
    Thanks!

If I have a bottle of oil that says 2018 on is that the expiration date or manufactured? And should this be alright to use if it’s unopened? Cheers

    • @Castrol_UK
      @Castrol_UK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Liam36
      Thank you for contacting us!
The date on the bottle is the filling date at the factory.
Modern oils do have a certain shelf life as they are a complex blend of base oils and additives. Shelf life depends on a number of different factors, such as storage conditions. If you would like to know what the use-by date is for your oil please contact our Technical Support team at AutoTechEnquiries@castrol.com

I have a classic Jaguar Xj 6 4.2 1972 and use 20W50 engine oil. When hot the oil pressure lowers when idling and also have small oil leak. Can I put thicker oil and if so what grade do you recomend?

I have old sidevalve engines ford popular, ww2 jeep bsa motorcycles, which would originally used mono grades, but now I see no reason not to use a mutigrade, usually 20w50. As this covers the strait 30 or40. I have had no problems!
