Great to see Fink (Fin Greenall) on a list, such a highly underrated artist. Perfect Darkness is an excellent choice, powerful lyrics and a good example of Fin’s unique voice.
Thanks for another great review. I have the ECI 6 MKII version without the streamer or dac. I have paired it with Kef R11's, 2 x Rel T7X, Gustard R26 and Wiim Pro. The sound (for me) is incredible. Clear, warm, wide and tons of power. Nothing I would change here. BTW, the price in Canada for the version you reviewed with the dac and streamer is $13k! The version I have is $10k.
Similar match here on brands. I've got the ECI 6D, which has replaced and old and trusty Onkyo A-8190, driving KEF Reference 104/2 old speakers and an Ace Bass unit from Audio Pro, and it sounds superb. The speakers' control of this unit for being an integrated amp is unbelievable, due to its damping factor of 300. I'd like Electrocompaniet would release an upgrade for including the streamer capability to these older models of the ECI 6 amp. It shouldn't be too difficult for them, though pricing might not be competitive to the DX model.
Hegel to me can sound harsh in some circumstances and set ups. Not my favorite amplifier brand regarding getting rid of that digital bite. 😢 I’m glad that you made us aware of a smoother sounding alternative 😊!!!
It's interesting that you say it needs burn in. I contacted Electrocompaniet directly and they mention that these amps should be running true after about 4 days of burn in. Have you found a big difference over time?
If I had to design an amplifier, it woud look like Electrocompaniet, it's visually mind buggling, to the point I see it like MOMA standard.... I love the four gold button arrangement, the plexiglass front plate, etc , etc. Thanks for the review! ps: from the Electrocompaniet fan boy :)
I had the ECI4. The volume control was one of the bad things with it. It was hard to control the volume. I have Hegel H390 now. And it has a much better volume control than Electrocompaniet amplifiers.
all in ONE Package !. love that.. a Huge saving on separate units , interconnect cables (you know. not everyone is rich to afford whatever he/she wants). the only thing i don't like is the cheap looking Remote !!!.. i don't know if you're familiar with the QUALIO-IQ Ultra speakers??!!. i wonder if this Amp would make a perfect match made in Heaven ?! 🤔☺ .. thank you Great review..
I wish to God you'd review the Dynaudio Emit 50s ' for their price 👌almost the same as Evoke 50s just cabneit and spider/coil in bass drivers that's it ' same mid/tweeter crossover ' build is solid for $2250 or sale price until Dec 31st of $1688 is down right crazy !
what's not to like ?!. great unit to say the least. all in ONE. saves a lot of money on separate units and interconnect cables. however. since the Digital technology is fast changing . it would be great if it can be updated by changing the DAC and Streamer Cards ??!!!. (some of the McIntosh and Accuphase Amps have this feature) , this way you don't have to buy a New amp every year !. thank you for the great video.
Seems like the Hegel H190 (and its replacement coming soon, which "may" be called H200) is more of a direct comparison, especially when power output is considered (rather than just price). I am not sure if the H390 supports Tidal directly (without Roon), but I noticed that the new H600 does support Tidal directly, so perhaps the H190 replacement will do likewise.
Had a similar conclusion 15 years ago with the ECI-3 integrated amp. It broke down after 10 years and the disastrous customer service (they were asking 800€ to "open the trunk") ended my collab with the brand
Acrylic scratches ez they should have used tempered glass especially for the price they are asking not meaning to sound like I’m slighting the product ,but just saying . I love Focal ,but funny I also like what I think is their polar opposite the Polk R700s . Nothing else from Polk just those . The Klipsch Forte Fours also👍
I’ve heard from an Italian reseller close to Sonus Faber, that Franco Serblin used the Electrocompaniet ECI 1 as benchmark to design the Sonus Faber Cremona and its marvellous sound. I would like to test the duo someday, it should be “very interesting” 🙂
That is interesting, since Sonus faber is now owned by the McIntosh Group (which also owns McIntosh, a rather well-known manufacturer of high end amplifiers, both tube and solid-state).
At that time, when Serblin designed the Cremona, Sonus was not part of McIntosh Group. It was acquired after his death. Other amplifiers i know Serblin used to design his speakers are the italian GRAAF, marvellous tube amplifiers, probably among the best tube amplifiers ever produced. He used the GM50 to design the Stradivari🎻
I ask for your advice. I have a pair of isodynamic speakers Tuscanini Idillia, 85 db, 6 ohm ( similar to Magnepan .7). Very undecided whether to combine the more powerful Hegel H390 or this Electrocompaniet ECI 6 MK2 with a smooth and warm sound. What would you recommend? Thanks regards
I can get this amp at 40% discount at a dealer close to me. I want save some bucks to buy the Arendal 1528 at some stage and pair it with the Electrocompaniet ECI 6DC MKII. Would this pairing work, you think? What amp would you recommend I pair the Arendal speakers with?
I want to know how compatible my B&W 703S2 speakers are with the ECI 6Dx mkII amplifier! if I order it, do you think that my speakers will rise to its level of fidelity? will I be able to make an audiophile sound? i use tidal for stereo! I am waiting for an answer as soon as possible, thank you!
To add more speakers sounding great with electro amps, try JBL. Yes, JBL. JBL sounds fantastic. I sold my Dynaudio S 1.4 cause I wouldn' t part with Electro and replaced them with JBL Synthesis series speakers. Just Amazing.
I notice you pronounce the final -et syllable of Electrocompaniet the French way. Maybe that's because you live in Canada with its French influence? But the company is Norwegian, so would it be pronounced that way? Don't mind me, just wondering...
I would stay away from them. They used to have a reputation for quality problems. Twice the left channel of my integrated amp went up in smoke and flames for no apparent reason - with expensive repairs
There is always a reason but I can't comment on any quality control problems as this is also my first introduction to the brand and it has worked for me without any issues for months now.
They didn't mispell it. They can only display a maximum of 7 characters, so they intentionally dropped the "i" so they could show "Toslnk1" and "Toslnk2".
$1000 per character... horrible decision. Unacceptable to make anything at that price point, that has worse display resolution than a VCR. They can suck it. Seriously ridiculous.
The box, remote, and interface seems cheaply made for this pricepoint. Although sound performance can compensate for these inadequacies, there's too many other options. I feel like this company is trying to get too much mileage out of their name.
Hey, the Hegel H390 is cheaper, and has twice the power! Since the H400 is out, the H390 will be cheaper yet. Listen Up has one listed at $4500 now. But comparing these two amps when one has 250wpc and the other is 125wpc isn't a good comparison. If your speakers are bookshelves maybe, but if you have big towers with two or three big bass drivers, I doubt the Electrocompaniet ECI D6 Mk2 is going to get the job done. The Hegel H390 will.
This thing is giving me 2010 Blu-ray player vibes; aesthetically and ergonomically it looks like a disaster. And you would think for $7,000 they could spec a display with more resolution than a 1993 Casio calculator.
