    Thank you so much for posting this. Im trying desperately to teach myself to repair old film cameras and I also work in a camera store where we process a lot of film. I see squeaky Canon AE-1's everyday. I knew the camera had to be oiled but never knew the exact process. This was eye opening and I can't wait to try myself one day. I may ruin a few cameras on my quest to learn but thats okay. The master has failed more times than the beginner has ever tried.

      If you really want to get into camera repair, get a broken camera and try to fix it. I did it that way and it works. Just be patient and note down all the steps by taking pictures or so.

      @@peterbarth1479 I have over 300 film cameras and a whole lot of which are broken. Ive decided to do just what you said, with a Nikon L35AF2 which I have about 5 of...but I have made minor repairs on them in the past(switching battery doors, cleaning viewfinder, etc) but have never successfully repaired other issues. Im gonna try what you said. Im gonna film the entire thing and see what I can do with my current knowledge. I hope to get there. Though I imagine fixing something like an AE-1 may be easier because it's more mechanical. I've taken apart a few AE-1's to oil them, but not much else. I did fix a Pentax K1000 but I mightve got lucky there. I do have a spare AE-1 so I may try that before the L35AF2.

      @@kiroscene6835 Sounds great, go for it. The only problem I see with the L35AF2 is that it's all electronics and nasty flex cables and that sort of stuff. While it is certainly possible to fix broken PCBs and flex cables it might be better to start with mechanical failures to avoid frustration. But no matter what you do first, you will definitely learn something.

    Very good video, saved for further reference, thank you. I've disassembled plenty of Pentax ME Super and some other Pentax SLRs and I do have to say that their construction is much simpler. I wonder why Canon made it so complicated 😃

    Hello, these are great videos. They help me a lot. Currently I have a problem with a Canon AE-1. The frame counter does not reset to "S" when I open the back. Is it possible to fix this? Can you also produce a video on this? Kind regards Johannes

    Thanks for this video! Which glue do you recommend to reattach the leatherette to the metal body?

      I use transparent contact glue... but just a very thin layer...

    Thanks for this video! Sir can I ask if you know how to fix AE1 Program's LED Blinking? Like 16 and 32 are blinking.

    • @FotofixVintageCameras
      @FotofixVintageCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, if the 16 is blinking it means the camera is overexposed... it blinks at any light condition? It may have a problem in the measurement circuit...

    What kind of oil do you use?
    Thank you! Thank you!

      In the flywheel? I use a thin oil... You can see the list of tools I use in the video description...

    Suggestion: after removing the top cover, temporarily re-install the shutter speed dial. This will keep the coupling ring that is under spring tension from flying off and causing extra work and potential damage to the tungsten wire.

    To make it easier to remove the leather trim, you can heat it with a hair dryer :)

    Nice clear video but commentary sound is only on one channel, music is fine though.

    Do you edit out getting pissed off and throwing the mostly disassembled body into a box , never to be messed with ever again?
