This was the summer of 1976 and I was going to be a Sr in high school. The similarities are unbelievable . It was more of a documentary than a movie. It was one good time after another back then and with none of the worries of today. L I V I N.

I never get tired of the scene where he asks Marisa Ribisi if she needs a ride, and she's totally stumped for a second because she's literally sitting in the driver's seat of her own car at the time. It's so subtle but it cracks me up every time

This movie HAS TO BE a rendition of our life in 1976, hanging at at the Moon Tower and playing foosball at The Emporium in Arlington Texas! What's great about this movie is that I keep gettin older but it stays the same age! Love me some Mathew McConaughey. Grew up here in Austin too. Let's not forget how hard we worked to "pour" ourselves into those tight jeans!
I was livin in Arlington, Texas at that time. I was 3 years old. I remember my older brothers would be playing foosball at the emporium. Graveyard park...best childhood ever...

This movie was made and took place in Austin, Texas.
I moved to Arlington in 1979 at age 17 I used to go down and hang out at the Emporium and cruise through Randol Mill Park and every other place I could get into. My birthday fell late so I was already 18 by the time I was a junior at Bowie High School in Arlington. This means I could get into the clubs and drink so I would head over every weekend to East Lancaster and go to a place called Savys great house band did great Renditions of all Kiss songs. Go down to Lake Arlington Park crawl back up in the woods and those benches get high and drink you can see the cops pulling in🤣 that's just too many particulars to know I'm not bullshiting you

He reminds me of Brian Burke who went to Madeira High School. The dude is almost 30 years old, hanging with high school seniors, lives with his mom, and doesn’t even have a car, so high school kids are giving him a ride everywhere. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I was in HS in the 70s am digging how accurate these character depictions were to the times. The 70s weren't perfect, but they were a great time to grow up in a lot of ways. The music, for one thing, was just so sublime. We had the rock of the 60's blasting right along with those same bands still rocking into the 70s, and the cars, man, who wouldn't enjoy cruising?!
This movie is all about fun
I lived this movie back in the early '80s. This is almost a documentary of what it was like back then.

Region has a lot to do with how teen years are spent. Since I have got older I now know people from Philadelphia and Long Island and lots of other places. Yet the only people who seem to have teen years like in this movie is Southern kids. Were you down here in the Southeast also David?

I swear, I'm a movie buff. I have seen every genre from almost every era. I have never seen a more natural feeling movie. It literally feels like you're hanging out with some teens in the 70s. Nothing about this movie feels inauthentic.

The first time i saw this movie I thought it was a biography of my sr. year at Astronaut H.S. in Titusville Fl., in '75...it is so spot on with all the characters and escapades...Keg parties at The Pines on Beach road.

I was a teenager in the 1970's , a very cool time. Great music, girls without tats, no gangs at high school, still respected our parents. I rode motorcycles, but some of my friends had muscle cars and we'd all go to the burger stand, hang out, look at the engines just like this scene. Very cool times.
I’m jealous man I’m 18 and in the uk and all our culture exists of at the minute is going out weekly taking ecstasy or coke and raving until crazy hours, watching movies like this were they would actually do fun things and everyone looking more chilled out makes me crazy jealous of the fun people would get up to
@@louiswaze4603 Yeah, the world has changed. I lived in a rural small town where everyone had guns, some for self defense, most for hunting. No one ever thought about bringing one to school. The worse we had was the occasional fist fight. While weed was everywhere, it was pretty weak compared to today's and smoking with your friends would actually take some time and was kind of a ritual. I'm glad we didn't have cell phones or gaming platforms. During summer we spent our time outside, hiking, rafting, riding dirt bikes. We all had chores to do, so we'd be up at the crack of dawn, work until noon and then rest of the day and evening was ours. Good times. Try outdoor activities, get a cool hobby. 45 years from now I hope you can look back and reminisce with good memories. Take care and good luck.

Adam Goldberg got so much into character, he broke the mic on his head
set lol. Rory Cochrane went full on method actor and was smoking pot the

I just finished his book and there is a chapter where he describes a trip with his brother to a hotel where his brother pretends to be blind so his dog can join and I swear it's one of the funniest things I've read. I laughed out loud while reading. His book is a blast to read and truly makes you appreciate the UN-Hollywood in this man that makes him a Hollywood legend.

I graduated HS in 1976, same as the film. Major inaccuracies:
* Very few if anybody actually had nice cars.
* Stoners never hang out with jocks.
* No hazing (in CA anyway).
* Guys weren't that developed, didn't have full sideburns and 5 o'clock shadows. Many actors were in 20s, not actual high school age.
* Most girls were NOT that hot or wore clothes that sexy.
* Nobody openly smoked pot or drank while driving. We did those things but very discretely. Wearing a pot t-shirt was begging to get searched.
We'll call those differences artistic license. Outstanding film.
