    Just watched this with my husband. Yours is one of only a handful of building trade vids that I enjoy. I am so impressed by the way you have tutored Ed in the trade. He is a credit to your skills, not just as a builder, but as a teacher. Well done. Always a joy to watch your vids.

    Hi Robin. Happy new year. With the constant increase in power of portable tools could you ever see a use for a portable metal plate press (as in trussed rafter plates)? We do have them in the USA and Australia but they are pretty big and not so portable. Obviously with structures there is a design element so you would not use them there. But none structural wall panels and small frames there may be a market. What do people think?

    Thanks for this vid Robin was looking forward to this! I'm a huge fan of HIKOKI tools and I am so exited to see what I can get this year however I must say I am quite frustrated that metabo and hikoki are just taking tools from each others platform and rebranding them as good as they all are I would much prefer to see what each one of them come up with. I talked to Nick from Hikoki UK in 2019 and he told me they were working on a cordless tracksaw I am very disappointed that 4 years later we just get a rebrand of the metabo I feel like no effort has been put in what so ever. Still a fan just a little annoyed. Great work as always. (if metabo and hikoki read this take notes.)

      The Metabo track saw is arguably one of the best on the market, why reinvent the wheel. Same as for the Hikoki nailer, why would metabo invest a lot of money into R&D when they could just add a few tweeks to the Hikoki.

      @@LluisTheWoodWorker I agree but after all it has the deep cut technology with 66mm depth of cut and the handle/rubber moldings look more comfortable than on the Metabo. I look forward to adding this track saw to the kit. I hope Hikoki eventually releases a drill/driver with add on chucks, much like the Metabo one. I have the Mafell A12 - based on the Metabo 12V - but it would be very nice to have the option of an 18V slim grip Hikoki with the same accessories.

    Thanks for the report @robinclevett . The cross platform battery idea is great - commendable even - HOWEVER it seems that the major flaw is that it's overlooked by the major global players such as Makita, DeWalt, and Bosch. Fact is most people use the aforementioned three for the majority of their general work, and these companies NEED to sign up to this cross platform/brand battery concept to truly make a difference to the environment.

    • @ukconstruction
      @ukconstruction  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree and many others do too!! there will need to be some consolidation across tool brands in the future, The Cordless Alliance System has about 50 brands included now too so that is a great start

    • @jayodea7328
      @jayodea7328 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bosch started their own battery cross platform last year called ampshare with about 25 other brands I think and with more brands to be added, I think DeWalt and Makita are too big a brand to share along with Milwaukee they have a huge chunk of the tool market.

      Then you did that film where you were repairing a garage door set, and seemed to be recommending the Metabo saw, so I bought it and the dx. No regrets at all, but the dx eats batteries. I think Metabo is missing a line of small precission tools, on the kind of proxxon, I am finding too a very very poor offer for hand trimmers and plunge trimmers, I will buy the kit of Makita for hand trimmer cordless, not because I want, but because it is the only decent price on the market, no other brand offer so much so good options as Makita, very very bad Metabo with this.
    I think there is too much invest on strength and power, I mean, that comes for granted, but the day today, we need more useful features and more and more precission focused tools, even just for dy world, we already have more strength than what we can use wise...
    Metabo is missing a lot in small precission tools. people takes these tools as toys, but that is what you need when a tool brakes, or for a ton of small reparations for maintenance, at home or the workshop or worksite, when some small piece fails in a sudden..
    it may be stupid to think but a cool Metabo minilathe hhhmmmhhh that sounds like very yeah
