Excellent documentary. I am very proud to be Portuguese and patriotic. But, they forgot to talk about more Portuguese technology. Did you know that Portuguese cork covers a part of the North American spaceship? They knew that Via Verde (automatic devices on highways) were created by the Portuguese. And that the prepaid card for mobile phones too ... and that we also have one of the best army and navy in the world.
I could say so much, but it would be a huge document.
    PORTUGAL, ALWAYS in my heart.

Also the library of the university of Coimbra inspired Disney when they make the library of beauty and the beast live action. Portugal introduce the spices that India use to make Curry. Many japonese words have portuguese influence arigato (in Portuguese obrigado); pan who in Portuguese is pão (bred). And tempura has originally a Portuguese dish 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹

First, Portugal time zone is GMT (the regular one no +1 or +2 or whatever)
Second spain used to use GMT also (it makes more sense to them to use gmt because of sunlight, in the new time zone it is night at 8am)
And third, they were the ones to change because of WW2 not the other way around.

In my reply I said that it is _one of the closest countries to it [Mediterranean Sea] besides the ones that do in fact touch that body of water_ - I'm assuming you can't argue with that. Then, if you want to get picky, as you do, it seems to me that it is actually ~235 km from the southeastern point of Portugal to the Strait of Gibraltar, where the westernmost part of the Mediterranean Sea begins/ends. Maybe you want to run by me where you got those 600 km from, did you put Lisbon as one of the starting points by error? Not that it is of any consequence to any of the previous arguments, let alone the original one.

Portuguese timezone is the right timezone, We're on the same meridian as London, the Greenwich Meridian. Spain is the one in the wrong here .. Also UTC + 1 is our summer timezone .. we're actually UTC + 0 or GMT + 0 (Greenwich meridian time).

Sintra is not the 2nd biggest town in Portugal. It´s not even a Town at all (technicly its the designation lelow "Town". Its a "Vila". The original guys confused the whole region (concelho) of Sintra with the actaul "Vila", And the same with Gaia. Sintra isnt even in the top-50 biggest "cities" in Portugal for sure.

And, by the way, it took the Romans in excess of two hundred years to conquer Portugal.

"Arigato" doesnt come from "obrigado" You can look this up.
But there are many Japanese words that originate from Portuguese. Being mostly objects that the Portuguese introduced to the the Japanese upon their arrival.

I'm 2 minutes into this video and am already skeptic of everything being said by Geography Now. First it starts with fail at basic math / geometry, then implies Portugal uses the wrong timezone while informing on wrong time zone... dude, how does a channel about geography mustard such incompetence?
    Quizz for Geogrphy Now:
    - Have you guys looked at a world map? You should.
    - Do your maps have meridians for time zones (UTC backward-compatibility)?
    - Do you know that Portugal is actually GMT, which translates to plain UTC and not UTC+1? (I know, geographically it classifies mostly for UTC-1 instead of UTC, but that would be a PITA)
I should lookup your video on all countries using the GMT timezone, and average the ones you find are worthy of mention to be on the wrong side of the timezone fence.
That lack of knowledge has put me off from further scrutiny, I will suspend my disbelief in order to enjoy the rest of the video... great fiction so far anyway.

If the Brazilians do not speak Portuguese, we can say that the Americans do not speak English.
Calling Spanish to a Portuguese is the same as calling Mexican to an US citizen.

Geography now had it wrong. It's not Portugal that decided a different timeframe, Spain did, for commercial reasons and what not, they wanted to be in the same timetable as France (and a different one from Portugal)
Portugal is on the same timetable as the UK, and Spain is more directly to the south of the UK than Portugal is. Spain being on GMT+1 makes negative sense, just look at the timelines in the globe and you'll get it.

Dont ever say that we love Spain.. We hate them .. Portugal was Forged on Fire, since early age, against Romans, Spanish, Muslims, etc, Had a lot of wars with Spain , starting in 1128 When D. Afonso Henriques, the best all time Portuguese fight his mother, in Guimarães, for Portugal's Independence making the Kingdom of Portugal. In 1100's we also fought the Muslims, In 1300's and 1400's we fought the Spanish Again many times, In 1500's we were fighting in North Africa and India, Some historians think we've discovered Newfoundland in 1473 ...
