    The Kalmar-union was established between the three Kingdoms of Norway, Denmark and Sweden in 1397. Sweden seceded from the union in 1523 (ish). In 1536 the Danish King decided that Norway was a province of Denmark and Norway had no say in this. After the British destroyed the Danish-Norwegian (Really just Danish) trade-fleet in Copenhagen we were forced to side with Napoleon. After (during) the war Denmark was forced to hand Norway over to Sweden in the Treaty of Kiel in January 1814. May 17th, 1814 Norway signs it's own Constitution, and declaring it's independance. Which the swedes didn't care much for, and invaded Norway since Britain had promised that Norway would be ruled by Sweden. After a short war Norway and Sweden entered a Union. The Swedes allowed Norway to have it's own Constitution where Norway and Sweden shared a Monarch. The Union was dissolved in 1905 which marks the start of the truly Independant Norway (minus a short break 1941 - 1945).

    • @sigurdbloodbeard6046
      @sigurdbloodbeard6046 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would also add, the Kalmar Union was a result of the lack of population after the black death. As Noble houses in all three kingdoms was deplited, they agreed on Eric of Pommern as their new monarch, as he had ties to all three countries. Also here in Norway we call the "nation" of Danish rule Danmark-Norge, although this is not normal outside Norway...

    • @TheSystemaSystem
      @TheSystemaSystem 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's also worth noting that Greenland was a part of Norway until Denmark was forced to cede Norway to Sweden. In the treaty, Denmark didn't cede Greenland as Norwegian land and I suppose the Swedes... forgot? Didn't care?
      So that's why Greenland, originally Norwegian territory, is now under Danish rule. Sweden also took land from us in the treaties, like Finnskogen and other areas along the border.
      The reason why nobody cared was that the regions were mostly uninhabited and that we couldn't really afford a war against Sweden or Denmark given that Sweden was an actual imperial power in Europe, Denmark was a strong country and Norway was probably one of the poorest countries in Europe up until the 1850s or so.

    • @Luredreier
      @Luredreier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sigurdbloodbeard6046 Depends on what part of our history it applies to.
      Basically it's "Denmark-Norway" due to it being a personal union between two separate kingdoms rather then one unified kingdom.

    • @brrebrresen1367
      @brrebrresen1367 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSystemaSystem same goes for Iceland and the Faroe Island, just like the Swedes forgot they existed.
      Shetland and Orkney was also Norwegian but a Danish king wanted his daughter to be married upwards
      mortgaged these islands to Scotland and then never payed back.
      also the Kalmar Union was more or less started by Queen Margrete after her son, King Olav the 4'th died at the age of 16.
      (how he died so young is up to debate, but his remains have found to have insane amounts of lead and arsenic in em but they are not sure if this is what killed him)
      she was daughter of the Danish king and her husband, King Haakon the VI'th was son of the Norwegian-Swedish king Magnus Eriksson.
      Magnus had his second son Erik taking over most over Sweden but that didn't went to well in the end and he died before Haakon VI did.
      Margrete's father was the Danish king and he had no surviving sons so he had his nephew Albrecht of Mecklenburg set as his heir before he died.
      but the Norwegians classified Albrecht as an "person non grata" so the Daish counsel decided that Margrete where to rule over the kingdoms until they found a more fitting person, this person being her sisters grandchild Bogislaw that she adopted and gave the name Erik, he was son of Vartislav VII of Pommern and Albrecht's sister thus the name "Erik of Pommern"
      then some later all the higher ranking officials from the 3 countries meet at the Swedish town of Kalmar and accepted Eric as the heir of all the 3 kingdoms, and from that the name "Kalmar-Union"
      also to note, Finland was then a part of Sweden and Skåne being Danish. also Schleswig and Holstein was under Denmark while not being "Danish" since the Danish king was set as Duke of said territories with no one higher than that in rank.

    When in Oslo, if you have time, go to Oslo Street Food (Torggata 16, 0181 Oslo
    ) and treat yourself to a pulled duck burger at Duck It! and a pint of local brew at the pub next to Duck it!
    Other than that you can go to Vigelandsparken if you like statues, swing by the castle to look at the royal guards or just get lost in the streets and take in the sights and wander in to random bars or restaurants.
    As far as food is concerned, don't be squeamish to test food in Norway, we have a _very_ strict law when it comes to consumeables here.
    For instance, Fireball Whisky had to be withdrawn from sale due to us getting a shipment that wasn't meant for the European market and had too high values of propylene glycol (these values are legal in the US but not here).
    Just go nuts, food wise you've got nothing to worry about.
    If you want traditional Norwegian food, I'll recommend you eating either fish dishes or potetball/raspeball. Though lutefisk, rakørret and gravlaks might be a bit over the top. Especially lutefisk since that's somewhat best described as fish jello.

    That's not entirely true.
    You *are* allowed to camp on private property without permission from the owner.
    However it's more about things like not camping too close to homes or nesting birds or on farmland etc and not breaking branches etc to burn and to know where it's safe to burn stuff or not etc, etc, etc.
    14:50
    If you watch it again you'll notice that this part wasn't really true...

      @Cjoh93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong, the owner of the property has indeed autority to ask you to leave. Unless there is å state owned river running through the proberty. Also you can only have a tent up for 48 hours. Permit is required after 48 hours. Stupit rules nobody cares about though 👌

      But you don't need a *permission* beforehand.

      And yes, you're right about the 48 hour rule.

    In Jessheim there's a brewery called Sundby tunet bryggeri. I really recommend a visit to that place. It's not far from the airport, just 15 min. Travel by bus, in Jessheim you can take the train to Oslo.
    Not far from the airport there's ancient forrest, where you can find unique flowers and a downed airplane from WW2.
    We also have our own viking grave here, called Rakne haugen(Rakne mound) A viking burial mound.
    Jessheim dates back almost a 1000 years.

And then think about how different we talk, depending on where we come from. So we can kind of hear on someones voice where they are from. And we understand eachother just fine. And because we are used to that we learn other languges pretty fast. And we also understand the Danish and swedish people better than they understand us.

    Whereas you are allowed to die on Svalbard (but you can't get buried there), you're not allowed to give birth there; pregnant women have to leave for the mainland in the 8th month of pregnancy.
    Denmark-Norway supported Napoleon in the wars, so when he was deposed, Norway was handed over into a personal union (ie. a Swedish king and Swedes running the Foreign policy - but with a Norwegian parliament under a new constitution - which the Swedes didn't have) in 1814. THAT union was dissolved after a referendum in 1905.
    Oil and gas was only discovered in the Norwegian part of the North Sea in 1969. And the 200 nautical mile limit was only introducen in 1977.
    So the Danes may kick themselves - but not for that reason. In 1814, Norway was one of the poorest countries in Europe, and remained so until about the mid 1960s.
