@@LennonTheBunny my first and only bunny sasha would be 13 years old this year, but she passed away at 7 because of stomach cancer 💔 earlier in that year, i noticed she wasn’t as active but everything else was healthy! the vet didn’t check her properly and said she’s just getting old. then in september she suddenly stopped eating and when we took her to the vet, they found she had the cancer. we had to put her down 💔 she was a beautiful bunny 💜💖
This is amazing. I had a Netherland Dwarf that lived 13 years. I spoiled him intensely and never left town without him, he always stayed with me in hotels. He did not even die of natural causes, it was because of a hairball. Even though I did measures to prevent hairballs. He died after the surgery to remove it. I was devastated. But I am so happy for this bunny and his owner.
Holly, you are an outstanding bunny mama. When bunnies know that they are loved, they stay with us for as long as they can. Even after they physically go, their spirit stays close because love never dies.
My goodness, he is such a handsome old man! His fur (that color!), body, and little face look so healthy! Great job bun mom and Doc. What a precious little light. Thank you for sharing him with us!!
I feel special and privilege now my birthday is November 11th I'll be 56 so Doc and I shared the same birthday. You are a special awesome boy you don't look a day over 2 years old❤❤❤❤❤ happy early birthday Doc🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Same here. I turn 61 on November 11th, and my birth year is the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac 🐇. Go Doc! I’ll be thinking of you and giving my 3 buns an extra treat on our special day!
One of our rescue rabbits a big New Zealand white rabbit lived to age 17. Some breeds of rabbits live longer than others. Most rabbits probably live 5-7 years. Good nutrition; good health and longevity genes; and lots of love; plus being near a great vet helps greatly.
Cataracts are quite common in older bunnies and pose NO problem, with one caveat: you MUST not rearrange their living space. I have had blind bunnies, and they can navigate perfectly by scent, touch and remembering where things are.
We are in the UK and My girls just had their 6th birthday last week on 21st August. Beautiful indoor sisters! A colleague is always baffled cause her (outdoor) rabbit never reached two years old. Doc has out done Henry the eighth with the wives, He’s clearly living his best life and being treated like the prince he is! ❤❤❤ well done bun mum!
Wow almost 18? And yes he most likely won the genetic lottery. Thank you Sarah for doing the interview. This was interesting and crazy to see how well he is doing still.
@andreamongey Perfect. Unless they're wild bunnies like "cotton tail", they're to be indoors. Wild bunnies and domestic bunnies are different species. They even don't mate.
That is so Amazing. I'd give anything in the whole world so I could spend at least little longer with my two bunnies who are already gone. For only 6 and 5 years they have lived. Two Mini-lops, they were simply the best. She must be the best bunny mom in the whole world. 18 years is unbelievable, wow. Hope he will have many more to come. Such a blessing.
That is so amazing, I am a Guinea pig owner and the longest Guinea that ever lived was 14 and a half years old and there average life span 5 to 7 years
Wow! My longest living piggie was almost 9 and was VERY frail. Of course that WAS about 15 years ago. This gives me hope for the future, as I totally plan to get another gp
I knew cats can live to be 20 something, but 18 years old bunny? Incredible, I hope to have that many years with my grumpy man. He's almost 7, I adopted him when he was 10 months and I hope the amount of rabbittude will carry him for at least next 7 years (preferably way more).

Doc is so gorgeous!!! Thank you for your videos. It’s amazing that even though doc and his companions are not litter trained, they still go in one area. Our girl Belle is litter trained but she’s very mischievous and still purposefully sneaks a pee on the couch or likes to pee on or next to my husband (her papa) 🤦🏼♀️. She’s spayed 🤷🏼♀️
Been saving bunnies for 35 years. Always have 2, male & female, spayed & neutered, from local shelter. Indoors in large puppy pen. Lots of love. When one passes I get another right away. Many at shelter. Bond quickly. Groom & cuddle a lot. One bunny, Buster, was around 14. Full grown from shelter, 1-2 years when adopted, stray. Had for 12 years. Small lop. Wonderful creatures. All love bananas, parsley, cilantro, carrots & carrot tops. Love them all.
Love this. My Luna was a rescue and I think she was already 1 when she found me, so she's 3. My daily mantra to her is "10 more years!" But starting to wonder if I should be saying 15. So beautiful to see bunnies loved and cared for so well. Thanks Lorelei ❤
Thank you for introducing us to Doc and Sarah! It was great seeing another rabbit that's this ancient and also in mostly great shape. Love love love these super seniors. I have an almost 17 year old, Sydney, and it sounds like Syd and Doc are VERY similar old men personality wise. Gotta laugh at these old buns and their young wives! Like Doc, Syd takes VERY good care of his young wife. They are both completely free roam in the house, although only Duchess takes advantage of the other floors of the house. I call this period of a rabbit's life "whisky and cigar time". There's no limit on treats whatsoever. Nor are there rules! Syd *used* to be litter trained, but in the past year or so he's slowly lost the desire to use it. He is perfectly capable of chasing his wife into the box, or going to get a favorite food. We're just not doing the potty anymore, I guess, and at this age it's hard to be mad. Every day with them is a gift. I really do believe it's just a genetic lottery. There is nothing different I've done with Sydney than the other dozen or so buns over my life, and they have all lived between 6 and 12 years. Same diet, same environment, same vet care. Sarah and Doc, wishing you both as much time together as he wants to hang around happy and healthy. Lorelei, you and Lennon have been on our minds in this house since your last video! Sending all the love and good vibes in the world from Pennsylvania.

@@CrittersandPals thank you so much 🩷 we actually got him from a child who was giving him away for free. I reached out to her on her online ad to advise the dangers of giving away pets for free, and she was such a lovely person that she changed her ad immediately to charge $50.00 for him. I mentioned that he looked pretty old, she said he’s at least 6 years old. We talked a little more and I found out this was her mother’s friends rabbit who could no longer take care of it. This little girl took him in, and was caring for him the best she could but since she was so young, she made a very mature decision to rehome him. She was able to reach out to her mom’s friend to find out that the little guy was 12 years old!! Whether or not this is accurate, I won’t know, however based on his look and mannerisms, we think it to be correct. We were also told he was neutered which he was, so we do think the age to be mostly correct. Basically when we found out his age was when we decided we wanted to take him in. We got to spend a wonderful 4 additional years with Tofu, and he was so full of joy every single day that he was with us. ❤️

We didn't know all the stuff we know now about how to care for rabbits (like giving them hard bread or keeping them in unsuitable outside cages where they dug too deep/became pray to our countryside predators) so she truly was a fighter! Never had health issues a single day in her life either. She just died of old age one day in her sleep. My current rabbit Maxwell (Max) is 3 and is getting a female companion Aziraphale (Zira) as soon as she's old enough to leave the nest :)
My little Netherland Dwarf made it to 14.5 years old. The last 6 months he could only lay on his side but he loved to be picked up and helped to go to the bathroom and cleaned up and groomed. I miss that little guy Whistler.
They didn't specifically go into detail about it, but for anyone wondering: one of the biggest reasons for spaying/neutering bunnies, y'know aside from avoiding accidental litters, is that bunnies get horrifying reproductive cancers when they're not fixed. This is so rare & special! may he live many more years!! My bun is only 4 atm! (we happen to share the same bday!)
Wow happy birthday rabbit
