Cheers LCR! That’s very annoying mate. TBH I’m amazed mine is still working, the amount of times I’ve thrown it on the garage floor or made it extend itself at speed into a wall! 🤦🏻♂️
Been a Hepco and Becker fan for years (I'd be even more of one if they gave me loads of stuff!). The Explorer hard cases look the business but do weigh a tonne - plus the little label on the inside of the 45 litre top box lid (at least on mine) says max load 5 kg (ie less than the box!) and not to exceed 80 mph - not that we would of course! Cautionary tale: keep a weather eye on the plastic lip that fixes under the carrier loop, last summer it broke on mine (granted after 10 years...) and the box fell off the bike. Fortunately the box was empty and I was near home - couple of weeks earlier it was full and in the middle of a 19 day European tour, it could have landed on the bonnet of a 911 half way up the Stelvio! The KTM does look fab though - bet you use the 30 litre soft bags on tour ...
Same here Steve. I was really impressed with the side cases on the Versys, and i paid for those myself! Oddly enough, the side bins, even the massive ones that i have, are actually lighter than the stock panniers were. Obviously the racks are extra, but that means the extra weight isn’t as much as i first thought it would be. I’ll keep an eye on that lip, but I’ll be ignoring (within reason) the 5kg warning. I thinks that’s just legal arse covering. As long as we don’t kick the arse out of it, should be ok. Ride over 80mph?? NEVER!! 😉
Damn!! You hit the jackpot. You’ll love those locking hard cases when traveling cross country on roads. I’ve had hard locking luggage on two BMWs, a Goldwing and my Electraglide. Nothing like coming back to your bike after dinner, at a rally, or a night in the motel and your gear is still safely locked away. Of course a bad guy could break the locks, but it’s easier to steal soft luggage. Kind of like it’s easier to mug a guy with no dog, than a guy with a dog. That KTM 1090 just keeps getting better and better. Envious in Wyoming! But I couldn’t ride it. We are still snowed in. Enjoy.😎👍
I know Bill! Winning for sure! Yeah I’m a big fan and I’ve missed the big licking bins ever since i got rid of the Versys 5 years ago. Now finally back on the hard luggage team! The flexibility to switch to the soft stuff for off road or light weight ventures is also a real bonus. Hope the snow frees you soon mate!
Good work, citizen. Katooms were made to travel on and certainly your pferd metal is now good to go. Not used their kit before, but looks quality. Be interesting to see it used in anger. Roll on hot summer and cold beer. Safe, happy travels 👍
had similar set on my 1190. just a varning..no more filtering... it gets MUCH vider at the back then the handelbars, i stopt using my set for that reason. And ifyou dont have them, get the ktm rally footpegs much nicer when standing up.
It’s only 6cm wider than the KTM panniers were, though i don’t really do much fingering any more. The Germans don’t like it! I’ll have to look into the footpegs. Cheers!
Cheers mate. Yeah she’s looking tidy! Sadly the lights were a bit of a disappointment. If i go off-road any time soon, I’ll be ditching them for the weight saving. 😢
I particularly liked that the base plate doubled as a jigsaw puzzle before fitting it to the bike 🤣 I think you may need to fit flashing orange beacons to the rear!
Your taste in bikes as improved,I love Hondas but I wouldn't have chosen the one you chose, but each to their own or is that each to there own, good luck with the latest bike
Looking forward to the coming travels. And pretty amazed by the AndyMechanicsMan hiding behind the CamMan (opening the fuel tank is the only thing I dare doing) 🙌
Me too Michio! Seems that once you’ve taken the tank off one time, you can do it with your eyes closed. I’ve taken it off again since and it only took 30 minutes from starting to having it all back in place again.
Great vid and no doubt congrats on the freebies!! As well as the weight breakdown comparison at the end would've been good a similar one on price comparison... Steady.
Thanks! TBH i think prices between KTM official and Hepco&Becker are pretty much comparable. And don’t forget, there‘s no such thing as a free lunch! 😅
It's looking great and I can't wait to see you get it out and put to good use. I do think you should paint that bash plate black though, possibly with something like truck bed-liner so it can take the stone chips. It's a big lump of silver on a bike that doesn't otherwise have much.
Cheers! I dunno. The luggage racks are silver, as are rear fairings and tank fairing. I reckon it’ll look a lot more like it belongs once the bash plate has been bashed a few times! 😂
Maybe topcase plus big rollbag on the back seat would be better and narrower for the city? 1 meter wide is a lot for my taste. There is a probability to scratch some crazy expensive electric stuff in Norway
Ha! I didnt buy this monster to ride it in the city!! If anything I’d leave the topbox and just use the panniers. Keep the weight low for best handling! 👍🏻 It’s really only 6cm wider than the stock panniers. The straight lines just make it look way wider than the curvy KTM boxes.
Very nice kit. Only criticism I can see is key/lock position for the top box is a pain to get at, will get filthy….and the soft bags don’t look very easy on and offable. Really love the bars and the belly pan. Cracking video production as usual Andy and I agree, who protects the protectors!
Cheers Ian. I agree that the location isn’t ideal, but then again i think most will have the locks somewhere around that rear corner. However you do it, it’s getting covered in crap at the back to varying degrees. I hope that the rear spray management on the KTM is a little better thought out than on the CB1000R! The soft bags are much easier than they look. Sure it isn’t simply a button push or a buckle clip. But I’d rather know that they’re not going free themselves when it gets bumpy! 🤣
To be honest. Think you won't need the topbox. With that much space in the side boxes and the tank bag. Maybe just a smaller duffel or something. That way you keep the weight low and close to the bike. The top box makes it bit more top heavy. Does look good though. Only minus are the blinkers (you have very nice ones of Barracuda) and the colour of the bashplate. Maybe powdercoat it black? Am looking forward to your new adventures!
Yeah, the topbox is intended more as an overflow or temporary storage space. Never to be fully loaded or heavy for any length of time. There’s plenty of room in the side bins for more than I’ve ever taken on tour before!! Indicators is on my list, i just need the time to do it. But when the time comes, I’d rather just ride the bike!!
And even when it's parked you cancel the blinkers! :-) I noticed that in the last Norway video, you press that button very often. (I have the same strange habit tbh)

Hi Andy could you tell me if I can just fit leds to my brake light and headlight please on my fz1 10plate or would I need to fit a canbus. Many thanks Lee from Aberystwyth
i'm curious if the Hepco Panniers and top box being partly plastic will that make the heat inside less intense in the summer months? I know my black panniers on my GS get unbearably hot inside on hot days, so much that they've caused lithium batteries inside to swell and fail. Lighter aluminum looks worse, but no such issue. You must report back, it looks slick regardless!
That is something that I’m also wondering about. I know they were silver, but the last set of these had no issues when i was in croatia in 40+ °C. If it proves to be problenatic, there’s always sandpaper to reveal the silver again!
Not having any experience with adventure bikes or carrying THAT much luggage, I'm wondering whether you'd change suspension/ geometry i.e. by lowering the fork clamps a few mm to compensate the weight on the back? Is that a thing?
I certainly wouldn’t lower the forks and reduce all that wonderful ground clearance! But i did give the rear preload a few extra turns. At some point I might upgrade the springs front and rear fire something a bit stronger, to go with my somewhat larger frame!
Not bad being sent 2,500 - 3,000€ worth of free gear! That bash guard could do with being black. It looks a little incongruous in raw silver with your new colour scheme. You now have as much carrying capacity as most cars! Wait till you fill them and have a full tank of fuel to see how heavy your bike is ;@). Your Norway videos are great thank you. A+++.
No such thing as a free lunch! 😜 I’m not so worried about the silver bash plate. It’ll look far less incongruous once it’s bashed about a bit! I plan to enjoy the space but never fill it up! I hate a heavy bike!!
They’re only 6cm wider than the stock panniers and at about 108cm only about 5cm either side wider than the bars. TBH though, i don’t do much Filtering nowadays. I try to avoid the riding that requires it as much as possible. Plus the Germans don’t like it!

And that’s before you have to give the brands enough content to make it worth their while. No such thing as a free lunch.
Cheers! Various contributing factors. Mostly just felt like it was time for a change. It was getting boring with me and @thelikeablerider always having the same gear! 😉
@@AndyManCam I've spent about another grand on getting my 1290 how i want it. Heated ergo seats being most of that. What suprised me after my Versys GT is how expensive luggage is! Went for a top box but the panniers can wait until I need them. Will try a dry bag this summer! Then I need a set of dick lights but need a Hex for that. It all adds up! Kinda worth it 😁
Where is your wide load warning? I agree that H&B kit is really good quality, but no way could I ever enjoy a bike that was as wide as a small car. I mean, how much room does one person need?
It’s really not all that wide. These bins are only 6cm wider than the KTM panniers were. Considering the bars are already almost a meter across, it’s surprisingly easy to deal with. Sadly one person doesn’t need much, but one person with their stuff PLUS everything needed to make the videos needs loads of room! 😂
I take your point! I have an MT10 with H&B C-Bow Royster panniers, and rear track bag, overall less wide than the handlebars. They are really good, as you have shown. In the UK filtering is an essential part of touring, but I understand not really allowed in Germany?
Why do you need a top box, surely there's enough luggage space with the huge panniers. Unless you're thinking of taking a pillion which is not fun. Use the rack for a dry bac makes much more sense top boxes are crap don't make sense. Sorry man but everything else 👍👍 If you have to take pillion, teach her to ride her own motorcycle. Happy adventures
I completely understand what you’re saying. There really is a LOT of space in the panniers! For me it was never the plan to also fill the topbox, but rather have a secure space to use as an overflow, hold the cameras or maybe even stash my helmet. All while being waterproof and fast to get in and out of. So i guess depending on what you want, sometimes they do make sense! 😜 Great Airplane reference BTW. One of my all time favorites!
Now that’s not at all fair Paul. Power to Kg is almost exactly the same and i wouldn’t have most of the farkles and Gadgets on a GS if you gave me them for free! Bottom line, i know which one i want to ride and i certainly know which one I’d want to pick up out of the dirt when it gets dropped! Also the extra 3000€ that i saved will pay for a lot of fuel and tyres. BMW is definitely winning the race in recall bingo too.
I like that your skid plate has its own skid plates!
Pimp my ride style!
“We heard yo like skid plates, so we put skid plates on yo skid plates!”
Hahaha!! Like Xzibit himself said it!!
I like the Tardis like “magic box” effect of you taking all the parts out of the same box 👍🏻

Orange is not my color. Buys a KTM 🤣🤙🏻
I came for the engine and the ergonomics!
@@AndyManCam good choice!
I’m reassured every time i throw my leg over!
Needs sone orange 😉
There’s plenty there! It says ‚Adventure‘ in orange on the rear haunches. That’s enough for me!
Andy have you changed your bike😂😂😂
Totally! Didn’t i mention it!? 🤪
Forget any filtering lol 🤣
You say that, but they’re only 6-7 cm wider than stock panniers!
@@AndyManCam Yeah crazy , it looks as wide as a car lol just don't forget could be a disaster. Looking forward to seeing you using them on trips
Oh by the way I promise to stop calling you Shirley
😂
Well at least your ready for the zombie apocalypse 🤭
Absolutely! Just need to find a good spot to mount the gattling gun.
@@AndyManCam can you also share where the zombies are? Asking for a friend 😁
It weights less because it’s a whole lot less of a bike.
I think you have plenty of storage your pretty wide now careful filtering. They look heaven duty for sure.
Very much James! Filtering doesn’t really feature for me much any more TBH. But yep, they certainly are tough!
Great video as always Andy! Drop me a view if you get a minute, constructive feedback always welcomed. Cheers
Thanks very much mate!
About time you gave her a good going over with a sponge 🧽 (also the bike)
Haha! I totally agree! (Dirty bitch)
