    1. Linda Hamilton ROCKED. She's really built in T2. Must watch next.
    2. Along with Lance Henriksen/Vukovich and Michael Biehn/Reese also played in Aliens as Bishop and Hicks respectively.
    3. The late Bill Paxton is the only actor whose characters have died in The Terminator, Alien and Predator series.
    4. If this wasn't a movie the ammunition would not have been available on the gun shop counter.
    5. Ginger's boyfriend Matt must be a lousy lay if she needs rock and roll to rock and roll.🙄
    6. Watching people react to the eye operation is worth watching this all by itself.

This is why listening to the dialog is so important. Sarah was recording a audio tape to John for the future in respects to Kyle & her son (John Connor) on who to send to protect her & to ensure that John is conceived to lead the way for the resistance of the machines

@@TaraTunesIn The simplest explanation for this film's Time Paradox is something that I'd mentioned earlier in Chat, it's called a "Time Loop." Basically, it's a pre-determined / pre-established sequence of events which must always be repeated throughout time. No matter what some people may do (seemingly at random) or how they might even think that they can do something different than others did before...the Loop must still be completed and repeated, one way or another! In this case, Future John meets Kyle (in his present time), already knowing who Kyle is...but John could never tell him. Kyle "volunteers" to go back in time to protect Sarah against the Terminator, and although John knew that Kyle would die to succeed...he still had to let Kyle go. Otherwise, the Loop would have been broken, and John himself would have ceased to exist! Does this help any..? Other Terminator Sequels ask such philosophical questions, about Free Will vs. Fate!

    • @Me-cu8wr
      @Me-cu8wr ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@TaraTunesIn In science fiction it's called a Stable Time Loop. Kyle is sent back in time and becomes John's father before dying. Years later he's born after WWIII, growing up in the ruins like he said, only to be sent back in time to restart the loop. It's a self-contained paradox, and like Sarah said, thinking about it too much just makes you crazy. :)
One thing most 1st time viewers miss is when Kyle talks about the picture, and how he always wondered what she was thinking about at that moment. Then at the end when it's actually taken, we find out she was thinking of him. Really touching moment.

"The Terminator": The Hero's Journey, assisted by Tech Sgt. Kyle Reese. 4:52 Yep, it's raining men.;) 22:58 Check out "Movies with Mary" and her look at "The Terminator." She began to sing a sort-of nursery rhyme, counting down/off the "30 cops" just like "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.";) 28:12 Ask the old folks how fast a wartime romance can develop, even in the direst of times. 31:36 The stop-motion Android is nightmare fuel, eh? 32:18 Sarah Connor discovers her inner Commander. 35:52 Obsolete technology on display. That is an Eastman Kodak Kodamatic 940 camera that used Kodak Instant Picture Film. Jointly developed with Fuji, it took a bite out of Polaroid's market. Miffed, Polaroid terminated the Kodak Instant Picture Film system before "going away like Pontiac." Fuji made a deal to "keep it domestic," which became the Fuji Instax system. On to "Terminator 2," which is a Legend.

Time travel is easier to think about if you don't think of time travel. Just consider each individual's personal journey. Kyle Reese was born, grew up, fell in love, and fathered a baby. That is a perfectly normal sequence of events that happens every day. That it took place in different time periods doesn't change anything.
Do you remember Hot Wheels? Picture a horizontal track, and imagine a car going along that track. That's how most people experience time. Imagine it loops back on itself then continues forward, and imagine a car going along that track, through the loop, then continuing forward. That loop is how a time traveler experiences time. He or she doesn't quit moving; he or she doesn't appear at random places on the track. You can track the car's progression as one continuous line, which just takes a loop. That's how it works for the time traveler as well. They still experience their lives one second at a time.
In this case, with John sending Kyle, that's an example of a stable time loop. Because John already sent Kyle, we know he'll send Kyle again. Because from Kyle's perspective he already did it, from our perspective he *will* do it, and he can't do anything else. Of course, there's where we get into free will versus fate, which is never a good conversation to have for people on different sides. :)
You really want a movie to bake your noodle, try "Predestination" starring Ethan Hawke. It involves time travel as a core element and really examines the idea. I can't say anything more than that as I'll either give it away or sound like a lunatic. :D Just do yourself a favor and go into it blind.

Never seen an Arnold movie?? Well, it's getting about time to do an Arnold binge! You'll love him, I promise. He's not the best actor, but his charm is undeniable...especially when you get into his comedies like "Kindergarten Cop" and "Twins"...or even the action comedy "True Lies" (another James Cameron movie.
Linda Hamilton's character doesn't really get cool until the second one.
James Cameron is mostly known for the Terminator movies, "True Lies", "Aliens", "Titanic", and the "Avatar" movies (the blue alien people, not the kid with the arrow on his head). Interestingly enough, he used to be a semi truck driver, and learned about film making just by reading books on the subject. This movie was inspired by a nightmare he once had about a metallic skeleton chasing him.
When can we expect your single "Midnight Sandwich With Milk" to drop?
Kyle may have actually died before he was born...or at least around the same time. Meaning, he may have been born in the 80s, lived until his late 20s/early 30s, then traveled back to 1984.
I think John was aware that Kyle was his father, but I don't think he ever told Kyle. I want to believe that John wanted his parents' live to be real and organic. And if he had told Kyle "You have to go back in time to impregnate my mother", then it gets weird and creepy...like a controlled breeding of livestock. And it also would bring into question if Kyle was being genuine when he told Sarah he lives her (like he was saying whatever he had to in order to "complete his mission"). I think that might be why James Cameron included Sarah leaving a voice note telling John that they "loved a lifetime's worth". If Sarah inadvertently assures John that their love was real, then John doesn't have to make "breeding" a mission...he only has to plant the seed by giving Kyle the photo and saying "Memorize her face; you'll need to instantly recognize her when you go back." And the photo became the catalyst for Kyle falling in love with her (or at least becoming infatuated with her).
The trick to grasping time travel in fiction is to follow the rabbit hole in order to understand...to make sense of it. But then stop. Because if you keep going down that hole, it'll start to become paradoxical and stop making sense. Yes, if John doesn't send Kyle back, then John will have never existed, and the future will rewrite itself...creating a new timeline and erasing the old.
*NOTE* This isn't a hard and fast rule of time travel, nor a scientific consensus...it's the "Terminator" and "Back to the Future" explanation, and really the cleanest for story telling purposes.
I don't know if you noticed, but the Polaroid the little boy takes of Sarah in the end is the one that Kyle carries with him.

From Kyle's point of view, his life proceeds as: Born some time after the war in 1997, meets John and learns about Sarah, goes back in time from 2029 to 1984, fathers John, and dies. From John's point of view: Born before the war, taught to fight by Sarah, meets Kyle after the war and tells him about Sarah, sends Kyle back in time to protect Sarah. John knows Kyle is his father and that it absolutely must be him that is sent; if it's not then John himself won't exist and the machines win.
Presumably there originally existed a timeline in which things happened slightly differently and there wasn't a loop, but once the loop is established it's self-sustaining.

In The scene where he breaks into the car, they didn't have a permit to do the scene.
Arnold learnt how to use different guns while blind folded so the Terminators moves would be automatic (no gun pun intended lol)
James Cameron shot the scenes at night.
Arnold isolated himself from Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) and the actor who played Kyle (basically they had their own storyline) to better fit the idea of The Terminator as a killing machine.

yes it's a paradox. kinda like if you take a famous song and travel to the past to give it to the artist before they came up with it. the artist can't be the creator of the song because they got it from you, and you can't be the creator because you got it from them. the song would then exist without an origin.

    • @spencerbookman2523
      @spencerbookman2523 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In an infinite multiverse scenario (hinted at in the movie) this would seem to be less of a problem. The song in your analogy would come from an alternate future. The act of a future time traveler showing up in the present would cause a new branch of history to be created at that point in time (even before the time traveler delivered the song to the artist before they might have written it.) So, Skynet wasn't trying to save itself, per se. It was attempting to save a version of itself in an alternate branching time line. (Not to mention all the countless other timelines where something different happened, like Skynet winning outright, Sarah Conner giving birth to twins, etc.)

I suggest watching the sequel, and stopping there. *Maybe* the Sarah Connor Chronicles, shortlived as they were.
As for the time travel thing, my mother could never understand the episode in Star Trek TNG when the Enterprise C came forward in time and suddenly Tasha Yar was alive again on the Enterprise D...
Kyle grew up in the future, came back in time, fathered Connor, died. Time travel is the only thing that makes the progression of his life wierd, but it's linear to him. He'll still grow up in the future and do all that other stuff, it's just wierd that he dies before he's born. And thanks to Sarah, Connor knows about him. He will meet Kyle during the war with the machines, and will send him back in time, never telling him they're related. Sad, but necessary.
The final cut of T1 left out one little detail about that factory: it was owned by Cyberdyne. Both time travellers ensured the future they came from, will come to pass. I think it's called a closed causality loop? Closed because time travel ensures the future will happen, instead of changing it. And Connor knows that he has to *keep* it closed, he *has* to send Kyle back in time; or the future *would* change, and humanity would be terminated, which is of course unacceptable.
In the end, everything is the result of the decisions everyone involved makes, regardless of the time travel.
But then, of course, there's the sequel...

for what it's worth, there is a videogame called Robocop vs Terminator. The specific paradox used in this movie is the predestination paradox, which you outlined very succinctly in your reaction. The sequel just ignores all the paradoxes and goes for "Back to the Future" logic. Since I hate Back to the Future logic, I tend to look down on the sequel. In fact you can generally lump all "solutions" to time travel paradoxes into "Terminator 1", "Terminator 2" and "Terminator 3" rules. since each uses one of them.

  • @BunBun299

It's a Timeloop Paradox. Essentially, all of the events in this movie move in a circle. John sends Kyle back in time to protect his mother. Kyle lays down his life to protect her, but not before knocking her up first. Sarah raises John to be the hero who would lead humanity against the machines. The machines, in a last desperate move, sends the Terminator back in time to kill Sarah. John sends Kyle back in time to protect his mother.
