Didn’t realize mine was bad and thought my car was messed up because it kept saying high temp but the number wouldn’t go high like the gauge. Thankfully got it towed and will be getting a new cap in the morning
On #3 the clog.. if that happens does the collapse happen only when the engine is running? My upper hose collapses only have motor is off and cooled... when running the hose is fully open? Ive yet to try 1 or 2 options
My car only has a cap on the overflow tank, not on the radiator. 2002 chrysler 300m but I'm having problems with my cars heat. The heat works for a little bit then blows cold. I just noticed that the seal on the cap is brittle and falling apart. Can this cap be the problem?
I have the same car but the 4th generation 2012 year model. Same exact engine as well but revised version. Same thing here but it depleats at a very slow rate like every 2-3 months then need to top off. I have a new OE Honda Denso Rad cap so I’m going to try first.
Any idea why my overflow tank is always empty? I have filled it, and then when I check it a few days later it’s empty. It’s always empty but the radiator has coolant in it. I don’t see a leak anywhere. 🤷🏾♂️
After driving, turn off the car pop your hood, and look and listen for hissing or bubbling. After it cools down, take the radiator cap off. See if it's broke. My 97 accords cap was broken and I had to retrieve the spring from the radiator. Also check your oil cap, and dip stick. If the oil looks milky, then you have a head gasket leak.
You can have a pressure test done as well to your coolant system. Just be careful going to shops. Something they don't diagnose correctly and assume that it's 1 thing or the other. It literally can just be the radiator cap or the thermostat gunked up or malfunction Or your fan relay not functioning. It can be so many simple fixes
1. Make sure it's the correct cap 2. You have to push down (kinda like a child safety thing on medicine) and turn. 3. If it's still not working check the radiator, the neck, where the cap goes. It could be broken.
Just seen your video. Can the bad radiator cap ruined the radiator? Going to the 3rd radiator. Checked for leak on head gasket checked out good. And when I installed new radiator I did not replace the cap.
Did you find the problem? I do have the same problem after I use the car for few kilometres I do run out of coolant but I did find even the cap damaged.
This is why my top radiator hose collapse, I couldn’t find the reason, but thanks to you now I know, I m a subscriber & always gives tums up, thanks

It is also recommended to replace rad cap every 50,000 kms, even if you're using coolant just to be sure
Thank you! This was very informative ❤
Excellent break down thanks
Great information

If I'm putting the cap on and it's not locking in do I need new radiator instead of cap

I’m noticing dried coolant which is white spots near the radiator cap. Can the cap keep fluid from going into the overfill tank?

Yes it can if the radiator cap isn't able to release pressure
