My mum has this engine and is doesn't sound good been told its the chain streched that is a common problem. Is there any other damage to look for ?

I have a Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet which has a broken timing chain at 120,000 miles. There was no rattle or undue noise so I would suggest no more than 100,000 miles chain life. It's great shame that a twin row (duplex) chain was not fitted. I plan to remove the engine for easier access. In my case, new cam rockers will be fitted and probably a new oil pump along with the timing chain.

Hi was just wondering if there was any timing marks that I would need to align such as any on the chain or sprocket? Or does the sprocket and chain go on anyway aslong as the engines locked with the locking tools?
    Many Thanks Cameron

The video shows how the engine cams and crank are locked in the correct position.
      (1) Turn the crank and fit the cam and crank locking tools. The cam tool has flat sides which must be horizontal or it will not click into place.
NOTE - The crank end bolt has a LEFT-HAND thread.
      (2) Fit new sprockets and chain with the shaft bolts "nipped" allowing sprockets to turn free.
      (3) Tension the chain. This unavoidably moves the sprockets but they are free to turn.
      (4) Engine crank and cams are torqued up with holding tools to counter the tightening torque.
      (5) Cam and crank locking tools are removed.
      (6) Turn engine 720 degrees and refit the cam locking tool. Crank timing marks should be correct.

When he fitted the cam locking tool, he showed the hole in flywheel which takes the locking pin. Looking from the gearbox end, it is located at about 10 O-clock at front of engine.

One question: How much time would this task take to complete?
My mom got a quote on changing the time belt for her car stating 8 hours (at 30,00 Eur / hour).
    I feel it's way too much... 😣😣

since no one has replied, ill tell you it is definitely wayyyy too much. im not exactly experienced and will be doing this alone without all those special tools, and im not planning on taking more than an afternoon (including changing oil, oil filter and maybe brakes) but in a shop they sometimes are doing 2 cars at the same time or smth, migh be the reason. check with a different mechanic shop in your area.
