Probably one of the best corsa d diesel engine timing chain replacement videos I have seen. All parts and steps involved explained very clearly. Well done young man!

People asking where the crankshaft hole is, if its not in the position as in this video you will find it next to the crank sensor. Look at the front of the engine from underneath the car at the flywheel side, you'll see the turbo and a pipe coming from underneath it, you'll then spot the crank sensor plug on the engine block, to the left of this (looking up) you'll feel a slot in the engine block. The pin goes in this to locate the flywheel timing hole.
Thank you to Ignition Advantages for this video. I've recondition industrial engines previously but never anything like this. This video has been invaluable. Thank you.

Job completed, quite interesting in the end... couple of broken rockers.... snapped chain... worn chain guides etc..... still... so far so good.. timing was interesting, as it's not timed at TDC!

    AA don't know jack
It's amazing that fiat thought to design the followers to snap (they are designed to rather than bend a valve) because they knew the chain would snap at regular intervals, they should have used a duplex chain

Would changing this cause oil to spill under the gearbox ? Bought one of these and there's oil under the gearbox dealer claims it's due to timimg chain replacement there's no leaks but just curious

Hello :) Im working on a opel combo 1.3cdti. And i have almost the same timing tool for camshaft just without the spring, but it doesnt want to lock in place. I have put the pin in the flywheel and the camshaft timing tool into the camshaft, and then i remove the pin from the flywheel to chech if it is locked, but it isnt. Do you have any idea what can be wrong?

The uneven sound of the starter motor is a dead cert for failed cam timing.
A new sump costs under £30 so just wedge it off while being careful with the alloy main bearing frame.
Oil pump pick up is underneath so best to avoid wrecking that. ;-)

Rockers worked as fuses to minimize the catasrophic failure. Saved the valves, so the head didn`t even need to be removed.

The timing for the crankshaft is under the car between the engine and gearbox. There is a little hole you turn the engine till tdc the insert that pin. If cam tools don't align the you have to turn engine till next tdc. A spring on the pin goes on the gearbox to hold it in place

    Hi Guys
    Please HELP!!!
I have purchased the tools and had everything lined up. I was worried about putting to much pressure on the locking pins. I removed them to loosen the crank pulley, unknown to me there is no keyway on the crank sprokect. I am concerned that i will be 360 deg out on the crank for injector timing. there is a crank sensor and cam sensor and i am not sure which one does the injector timing.
How do I determine the crank is in the correct position or is the timing done from the cam shaft?

My wife's Corsa 1.3 diesel has done over 152,000 miles with no work on the engine ever, just regular oil and filter changes never used a drop of oil great little engine

    • @melexdy
      @melexdy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Don't use oil with metal additives, it cos clogs up the dpf permanently. Regeneration won't be able to remove the metal particles stuck there.
The oil level is always high because during a regeneration the diesel from the cylinders swoops down the oil, through the piston rings.
More regenerations, more oil in the engine.
But it's oil contaminated with diesel so beware

Hi I am currently doing same job on corsa d 2011 1.3 cdti. I have heard pistons have to be in mid stroke to set crank timing position. if this is true then removing injectors would allow dowel to be placed in each cylinder. by rotating engine you will see dowels drop to same level on all 4 cylinders as the pistons line up. is this the case or is there some describe marking for vaux engineer to do this job without removing gearbox to insert crank locking tool? you obviously know your stuff so please could you let me know?

It doesn't need routine changing, unlike a cambelt that will need to be changed every 100k km to 150k km depending on the engine make. My corsa is on 300k km on the original timing chain. It will get noisey when you need to change it. Just make sure to change the oil every 10k to 15k km and you will have no worries.

Interesting video, the design is vey poor from an access point of view.
I have a Fiat Fiorino which has the same 1.3 engine, it’s developed a machine gun like rattle which is more noticeable between 1300 to 2000 rpm and is going in to be checked over tomorrow. Unsure if it’s the timing chain causing the noise or diesel knock from a fuel system fault.
I’ve previously had a chain snap on a Vauxhall Combo which ended up having the exact same repair as this one.

Si cortas cadena, las valvulas se pueden doblar. Rearmar sin controlar es irresponsable, si estas cobrando el trabajo. Mal trabajo. Muy malo

Thought the hole idea of a timing chain was that they never break. hmmmm !

    • @bolter99
      @bolter99 7 ปีที่แล้ว

No, they generally need to be replaced after about 100k miles. This has failed prematurely.

Kind of defeats there purpose then if they have to be changed every 100,000 miles.Much easier to change a timing belt than a chain too.

That's such a bad engine. The chains can not stand anything. And besides, you have to disassemble the whole engine to fix it.
    Bad design.
Our chain broke yesterday at 120000 km ..... without a sign.
Such a motor needs an extremely chain.
It is anyway a catastrophe which can still go broken and breaks.
Injectors, Expensive clutch, high pressure pump and many things more.....

With my present knowledge, I would change it.
