I really needed to hear the sound of waves today, I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and had my very much needed dose of "sea fishing medicine", thank you very much for posting this "Tonic".
Yes, I was hoping for a decent bass there, or whatever it was that followed my sand eel - wasn't expecting a ray at short range, but I did lose one earlier at distance. Many thanks for your interest and glad you enjoyed the video!
Yes - should have known better! Lovely place, but parking is expensive and when the hordes turn up, there can be little space left on the beach to fish. I only filmed when there weren't sunbathers around.
Excellent video, glad I found your channel, keep them coming! I normally fish from my kayak here in South Wales and I can't wait for the spring to bring some flat seas, only been out once since September.
Really appreciate your endorsement! Little chance of flat seas at the moment - put this video out as a teaser / taster of things to come (hopefully!). Wish you luck, but I'm afraid I'm getting on a bit now for kayaking!
Hello again, Just thought I’d let you know out of interest that following your video I did at last go to the venue last week. I arrived not long after dawn and although it was a neap tide my expectations of some action were high and it’s lovely to know that at this time of day you will be pretty much undisturbed until the walkers get out and about. I fished with rag only on 3 hook flapper rigs and was glad I followed your advice about wearing waders that allowed me to to put my baits out much further than would otherwise have been the case. Bites came in separate waves through the flood tide with periods of activity followed by none whatsoever. It was similar with the weed, at times I was picking up a fair bit every cast, mainly on the leader knot which at least kept the hooklengths clear but then periods with no weed at all. I fished for just under six hours and the tide had moved very little during that period. Overall I caught 15 bass, all schoolies and all of very modest size but at least I caught. I was hoping for a gilthead or two but will give this and surrounding Studland marks another couple of sessions while the water remains warm in the hope of catching one. I think that a decent springtime might prove more productive. Hope you don’t mind this wordy comment but I thought it would be good to reciprocate given all the really useful output you provide through your videos. Tight lines!
Many thanks for posting this - always interested in finding out how others get on fishing the venues I feature. 15 bass is a good result, but it is always nice to catch something different. Hope you get a gilthead soon!
Great video Rod! Catching Gilthead bream has me eager to get out fishing! They frequent the Cornish marks from March and can be caught as much using razor claims as peeler crab! Haven't tried squid for them so will give that a try.
there are 6 of us sitting in a hut in lapland watching this ,its pouring down outside and we have fished solid for 5 days now and we all agree this seems like bliss ,so relaxing compared to salmon fishing .thanks for posting it
That's dedication for you - not watching my videos, but fishing solid for 5 days! Thanks for watching and hope your trip was worth it. The only salmon I've caught was from the River Tamar.
Nice camera work who ever is behind the camera and Lovely location must give it a go one day, not to far I’m based in Southampton. Thankyou for being so generous with info.
Hi Rod ,just subscribed. My son has moved down to Eastbourne he is as green as grass angling wise and is hoping to meet you for advice . Tight lines !.
I enjoyed your video and have subscribed. I am visiting Swanage in early August. Have you had any luck fishing there and if so any tips please? Also whereabouts on Knoll beach would you recommend? Many thanks
Many thanks Ian. Swanage pier is good for a wide range of species and the tackle shop in Swanage will give you all the info. needed. I've fished Durlston Head quite a bit and have had a fair amount of success lure fishing. A good long walk is needed on Knoll Beach in August, since it will get packed with sunbathers and swimmers - at least half way from the car park to the nudist beach is needed. Good luck!
Great videos enjoy watching lots of varied species I’m from north Kent and want to get down south to fish different venues - how do you find these locations ? Who does your filming ? Great videos still got a few more to watch but this is my fav so far ;-) have you targeted any undies and conger in your vids ?
Thanks for that. I do all my filming and editing and just go and try out places I fancy the look of! Over the years you do pick up ideas about venues through Sea Angler magazine, some online forums and word of mouth. I do fish marks known for large fish, but only fish for them when there is a very good chance of catching and not blanking. All of the undulates I've caught so far have been by mistake - Chesil and Hurst Spit fishing for black bream! No vids of that yet! Likewise, I've caught lots of congers from the Bristol Channel, but that's when fishing for codling and thornbacks! I'll eventually get round to filming sessions on both of those venues, hopefully spring and summer, depending on tiers and travel restrictions.
Hello again, as I live within an hours drive of Studland your video has inspired me to get down there and have a crack at the bream before the season ends so hopefully with the current good weather it should be productive for several weeks to come. I have a question: have you ever fished the full ebb tide there or only the flood tide up to high water and maybe a couple of hours down? I imagine that with waders on you could cast far enough out even at low tide to reach feeding fish but of course I may be wrong on that one. Any thoughts much appreciated. Your videos are always informative and very engaging so thank you for sharing!
A well time comment, since I fished there last week! I got the tides wrong and arrived at the tail end of the top of the tide at mid day. Only caught (black bream rather than giltheads) on arrival; no bites on the ebb as the beach got crowded. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Many thanks as usual for getting back to me. I’m heading down there next week to fish very early for a couple of hours of the flood and a couple on the ebb. Hopefully a very early start around 6.30ish and the weather changing to cooler conditions should mean that the beach is less crowded than it has been this week. Even if it’s a few black bream I’ll be happy but obviously a gilthead or two would be the icing on the cake. I’ve never really targeted them in the U.K. but did manage my only ever one back in June on a beach in the south of France but it was tiny.@@rodsangleuk6283
Just discovered your videos for the first time yesterday and I’m very impressed by the clarity of your content and delivery. I was particularly interested in the videos on Studland and hadn’t realised that gilthead were a species you could target with confidence there. I know that the odd specimens can turn up anywhere on the south coast but had always assumed that you had to head off to the West Country estuaries to have a realistic chance of catching them with some degree of predictability. Well, your videos have disabused me of that idea for which I’m very thankful, especially as I live in Christchurch with the Studland ferry only a 30 minute or so drive from my home. Do you think that the general Studland area is worth fishing now as the season shifts inexorably towards winter? I’ll certainly head off there next summer but the lack of summer crowds are tempting me to have a couple of sessions, maybe for other species as well. I tend to be a lure fisherman and tried just to the seaward side of the harbour entrance a couple of weeks ago. It was flat calm and very sunny and I failed to connect with my various offerings but I think that area too with much deeper water close in would be worth a try with bait in the coming weeks and was wondering if you had any thoughts on that and my other ramblings? Thanks again, great videos.
Thanks David. Getting a bit late for Giltheads there now; but you never know, since its still mild. Worth spinning for bass at low tide, dawn and dusk at the northern end of Knoll beach.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Many thanks for the feedback about Knoll beach, I’ll certainly have a few late season lure sessions there once these winds die down. On a gilthead related subject (and I hope you don’t mind my ramblings) I’ve spent many holidays on the coast on the south of France and always have my fishing gear with me so used to have a few half-hearted sessions scratching around on local beaches for usually small species. The area where I was staying was renowned for big gilthead bream catches where locals used the weird ‘bibi’ worms as their bait of choice. I tried them once using float tactics and got completely bitten off a couple of times which I assumed where giltheads although of course that might not have been the case. However I did have a really interesting conversation with a local tackle shop owner who was adamant that using snelled hook lengths was far more effective for giltheads than using a knot through the eye of the hook. I didn’t really understand why this should be the case until he showed me a video. In the film a tackle shop owner had the intact skull of a gilthead bream and he offered a snelled hook length into the open mouth and then retracted it many times. I forget the actual percentages but the hook found a hold in the jaw in well over 80% of the attempts. When he repeated the experiment with a hook knot through the eye of the hook the success rate in hook-ups dropped to around 30%. Hardly scientific I know but perhaps some food for thought. I assume that with a hook snelled down the shank the leverage exerted in the fish’s mouth as well as the angle of the hook once contact is made is more pronounced than with the eyed hook knot, who knows? I never really got round to testing the theory but he was absolutely adamant that it made a significant difference to hook-up rates and who could argue, given that in his locality fishing for big giltheads reached almost cult status. Do I get a sad tackle nerd award for these observations?!
I didn't venture that far up; however at times there are too many people around to be filming, so I just set up the cameras when there was a bit more activity from the fish.
Expensive! I've not been there for a year or so, but it was about a tenner for the day last time I was there. I think you can still put money in a slot, but that might have changed - I however have National Trust membership, which grants you free parking and there is an office there where you can sign up and get a temporary pass before yours come through the post.
What is it with people that they can't walk behind you instead of going under your lines why couldn't they just go behind you.I think I would have to say something to them.
Looks like a lovely beach to fish. Really enjoyed the video.
Thanks for your comment - great to fish there, when there aren't many people around.
Nice video - informative, well edited and not spoiled by unnecessary music.
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching David!

Great beached to fish, throws up some great fish day & night local mark for me. Great video keep them coming 👍👍
Agree. Appreciate your comments Iain.
Nice fishing video buddy
Many thanks for that @Inglorious Fishing
Superb fishing and a very nicely made video. Love your channel. Tight lines
Many thanks for that Alex.
Mick, didn’t realise you were into beach fishing, cool 😎
Yeah - it keeps me off the streets.
Enjoyed the video, nice ray close in wouldn't have thought it in bright conditions 🦈

Mistake at start but soon back in your wellies and rainwear and what a beautiful spot you was fishing

Fantastic video, very professional. Good job 👍
