  • One of a series of videos covering Sea Fishing on Studland Peninsula, Dorset (UK). This video covers three sessions at different locations - Shell Bay (recorded on 9.07.20), Knoll Beach (recorded on 9.07.20) and South Beach (recorded on 9.07.20). A range of species were caught in the shallow clear waters, including wrasse and gilthead bream and plaice.
    Locational details are given and the rigs and techniques used are discussed.

    One thing I notice about your channel is that you never seem to fail to catch on those flat fish rigs! I don't think I've seen you go for a big worm and squid wrap pulley rig, perhaps that's the secret of your success? :)

    Great stuff Rod yet again. I have to start sea fishing as soon as possible, haven't been for around 4 yrs. Thanks for these films, helped me through bad times of loss, and the Covid crisis. Just a mention, Why do people feel the need to go under rod tips and line? And dogs loose when approaching your gear? Unreal.. Thanks again and more tight lines and film. 👍👌

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for that Martin. It's easier to walk on the wet sand, which is why a good proportion of those walking the beach go under my rods. In fact that's why I have them raised there - I would rather keep them low down, since there's next to no tidal pull, but they'd only complain about having to walk around me. Some dog owners are more responsible than others - enough said; just have to get used to it, or not fish there. There are signs suggesting that dogs might be put on leads, but not many take any notice of them.

    • @marting652
      @marting652 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rodsangleuk6283 yes they probably would you're right.
      And dogs, yes some are responsible. Another question, have you caught many Scorpion fish there or around that area before Rod? What an unusual species and probably has an appetite for most things.. Cheers.

      @@rodsangleuk6283 When I fish similar venues, I setup practically in the wave line and still get wanderers but find that plonking self pretty much in the sea keeps them at bay. Only issue is that being flat beaches in the Bristol Channel, the tide run is huge and covers a big distance in a short time. But over here, we fish much lighter as you are actually running away from the incoming tide. None of this three trips with endless gear to move a total of 2 metres every 3 hours haha. If it gets a bit busy with walkers, I switch to holding 1 rod and standing in the surf. Only the very keep sea-goers come anywhere near me then. Nice video as always.

    I went to south beach today and wasn't far from where you were. Didn't catch anything there were far too many kayakers and paddle boards about. Definitely a beach for evening and winter fishing, summer you got no chance. Might go to Bournemouth pier or Southampton Town Quay at the end of the month.

    First time I’ve seen a reasonable sized wrasse caught from a flat shoreline. Didn’t even know that this was possible. Usually it’s the rocky marks that produce fish of this quality. Hope I can put some of this knowledge into practice 😊. Thanks

    Very enjoyable and informative video thank you. I've not heard of a Sheppy rig before, when is it best to use it as opposed to the flapper rigs?

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ian - those rigs are particularly good when fish keep rejecting your bait when they feel the tension on your line. One benefit of using braid as your reel line is better bite registration; however there is no stretch in the line, so Sheppey rigs may help since they act as pulleys rather than bolt rigs.

    3 wonderful venues (particularly the last), good weather and 2 good sessions. For me, 1 wrasse would have made that last session worth while...they are beautiful fish. What sort of depth were you wishing in? As regards the last venue, how far up the beach did the tide come and where was your entry / exit point? I couldn't see any obvious steps / path. Another great video. Thank you so much for sharing. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ken - I don't know the actual depths, but don't think its more than 10ft or so. The tide goes right up to the cliffs at the eastern end of South Beach, but there is a narrow part of the beach left at the west end, even on the larger tides. However, Middle Beach gets cut off from South Beach at high water. There is a sunken path through a wooded area, that takes you to South Beach from Manor Rd. and hits the beach at Joe's Cafe.
