I have never heard of anyokne who disliked Jace as well. I feel like he was annoyingly self-assured and I couldn't deal with his ego. I had to finish the whole TMI series to really notice it. Jace is probably my least favorite character ever.
Lol Jane Eyre is like the only novel from the Victorian era that I absolutely adore. It does read very slow, but I think that it's all worth it for the huge twist at the end. I agree with you on the Mortal Instruments trilogy. In fact, I couldn't even get through the first book without rolling my eyes. I refuse to read any of her other books, which is a shame because the covers look sooo pretty.
I totally agree with the Cassandra Clare books. I have tried multiple times to read that book and I just couldn’t get through it. I don’t mind the chosen one trope, but I hate instalove.
I do agree with you on Casandra Clare, never really loved the mortal instruments, but having said that I probably will give the first book another chance because I did read the series when I was quite young and didn’t read books in English yet. So I’m hoping reading the book in the original language will improve it, though I don’t have much hope
Thanks for being brave enough to say that you didn't like Jace's character! I've never heard someone say that and he definitely gets on my nerves sometimes. 😅
I'm the same on Cassandra Clare's books! I was reading them in high school & then kind of just... faded. Then lost interest entirely. Tried rereading book 1 and couldn't get into the writing style again, whoops. I don't know why they're constantly so hyped!
I completely agree with you on Insurgent...I loved this book as well and I was so excited for the potential and where I thought the book series was going because I loved the first two....Allegiant is what killed the series for me
I agree with you so much!!! I didn't like Looking for Alaska at all and everyone was like really into it and I didn't really understand all the fuss, I'm not really a fan of Cassandra Clare either but The Infernal Devices trilogy is really worth it if you want to try and read it again I don't think you'd be dessappointed but I think that woman isn't gonna write anything as good as those three books ever again!
Your opinion on Insurgent makes you my new favourite person (because Insurgent is one of my FAVOURITE books of all time due to the reason you mentioned why it was important) XD XD XD XD
It’s funny you mention about Looking for Alaska, almost every single person I’ve heard talking about the book said they hated Alaska. Only know a couple who LOVED the book enjoyed her, I felt like I had the major unpopular opinion by liking her/the commentary regarding her character. :P I can’t wait to see Love, Simon! I didn’t love the book as much as I’d hoped (3 1/2 stars) but I was thinking the same, that I’d have a stronger connection and reaction to the film. Similar to The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I have a harder time enjoying being inside the heads of younger, more immature characters (esp romance).
Sooooo agree with you about Looking for Alaska, I read it at the same time it was very popular and well received and was convinced I had read a different book than everyone else haha
I agree with you about Jane Eyre. I got 1/3 through it and gave up because there was nothing interesting happening. It could just be that I gave up on it too soon, so I plan to revisit it and see whether I still dislike it as a whole.
I've never actually heard anyone say they weren't a fan of the mortal instruments series, I'm currently reading it at the moment and I so understand where your coming from, I feel like I should love the series but I just don't 🙊 loved this video 😊
I've totally heard that about cassadra claire. I've never read any of them. I did love Insurgent! I wasn't super in love with Allegient because I felt it was either rushed or Veronica Roth told someone what her plan was and someone else wrote it. I felt like it had been 2 books instead of the one it would have been so much better. I think I'm going to have to do this video on my channel now!
Loved your answers! I'm found that I had a lot of trouble getting into Cassandra Clare books as well and was forcing myself to read TMI because of all the hype...
I absolutely love Jane Eyre but I can see where you are coming from. The first around 150 pages are quite boring and I felt like quitting but once I got into the book I could hardly put it down.
I HATED the Shatter Me trilogy, and everyone else loves it. I also found the second and third books in the poison trilogy a little boring. 😓 Edit: Same with the Chosen One trope! I want the characters to earn the title/power. It shouldn't just be handed over to them.
Agree on Cassandra Clare. I would also say Maggie Stiefvater. Both of these authors I've tried to read, several times, and just can't. It's so sad, because their stories sound SO good.
Cassandra Clare and 50 Shades! I am happy to know I'm not the only one with this opinion. I kind of liked Infernal Devices trilogy ok but I couldn't make it through the Mortal Instruments series. And I have zero desire to read 50 shades.
I totally agree with you about Jace (and also Cassandra Clare)! I really think that girls who want a boyfriend like that are looki g for the wrong kind of boys (maybe he gets better while the series continues. I wouldn't know; I was struggling to finish the first book), but he seemed really mean to me (I had another word in mind, but I don't wanna swear on the internet)
Love this tag! I don't think I'm ever going to (voluntarily) read Fifty shades of gray ether.... In my opinion, it romanticizes the abusive relationship, and it is a bit dangerous for a book that promotes BDSM.
Thank you so much for owning up to not loving Cassandra Clare. People are really intense about their love for her, and I hate her books. I did like Looking for Alaska, but I totally understand why other people don't. Absolutely agree with the Harry, Ron, Hermione thing. I was not satisfied with those at all.
I picked the Chosen One trope for my least favorite as well ESPECIALLY with prophecy. at this point I think it's just a bit of lazy writing. I love watching the unpopular opinions tag though, and I thoroughly enjoyed yours too :)
I'll be honest, I was around the internet when Cassandra Clare was making the leap from fanfiction to published fiction, and the whole ~drama that went along with that so I've always had an instinctive reaction of 'no' when it comes to her works. I believe I tried to start the first book of the Mortal Instruments trilogy and couldn't get through it.
Agreements and disagreements: Jane Eyre is one of if not my absolute favourite book, but I agree with you on Insurgent, I dislike the same genres as you and I didn’t jump on the Alaska bandwagon either, that said I love The Fault in our stars, but that might be the only John Green book I enjoyed. I never was a good fan of TMI either however I did like the Clockwork series. I read and saw Simon just a day apart an have the exact opposite opinion to yours, I liked the book ever so slightly better than the movie.
I'm glad I'm not alone on the Cassandra Clare books! The Mortal Instruments series was ok. Not the best and the characters were alright (except for Magnus, he's awesome) I loved the Infernal Devices so much! The characters were even better then the plot. With the Dark Artifices series. . . I really hate Emma. I can't stand her. Julian is very creepy and the story, I didn't like. Very unpopular opinions. I also HATE love triangles. What's wrong with just one love interest? And usually the way authors do them is not very good.
I loved Looking for Alaska, it's my favourite book, but I didn't like Alaska at all! I didn't really like any of the characters much but I like the book more because of it, I don't know if this makes any sense but yeah
The night circus by Erin Morgenstern...the savior in it and the reason behind it. Ummm lol Idk. I liked the book. It took me a while to read but I did love the book
I just finished Red Rising on Audio. I almost DNF’d it but persevered. I was hoping for a huge plot twist at the end but it was so predictable. Bit disappointed as I was looking for a new series to read.
It makes me so happy to hear a TH-camr say that didn’t like mortal instruments. Honestly I border line hated them. Did NOT like Jace at all nor his love interest. Overall was not a fan of the wiring or the story.
I totally agree with Insurgent! It was my favourite book in the trilogy and I was surprised so many people disliked it. Although the dislike for Allegiant may be stronger 😂 I have no desire to read fifty shades either 😝

+LittleMissObsessive :D Well then I have good news for you. She is writing a high fantasy series. The first book it's called Sword Catcher and will probaly come out in 2 years. It's the tale of a young man raised to be the body double for an unworthy prince, a young woman destined to change the world, and a host of other characters: criminals, princes, magicians, and warriors. I personally don't really see the shadowhunter chronicals as being something repetitive. I see it as a huge story about all these characters that are very different from each other: they come from seperate countries, time periods, worlds but are still connected in an interesting ways by the relashionships they create. The only thing that I find recurring and very prominent in every one of her trilogies (or in tmi's case, those 6 books) is the theme of love, which may be why you say it's same thing over and over again? There is a quote in Lady Midnight I love that really explains it all : "Every story is a love story.”
Vladi VI yeah I might check it out when it comes out, I’m just not interested in the Shadowhunters world that much anymore mostly cause I’m just no longer into the demon hunting and vampires and werewolves etc or urban fantasy in general, high fantasy might be more interesting to me at this point also I don’t like CC as a person that much but that’s just personal preference 🙊
Finally someone else who didn't like Jane Eyre. Also I get where youre coming from with Cassie Clare. Not a huge TMI fan at all but I did enjoy her other series, and not for Jace at all
I think my only ones would be that I loved The Cursed Child, whole everyone else hated it. My other would be Leigh Bardugo, I just can’t click with her writing at all.
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics, but I know a lot of people hate it (including my mom lol). I enjoyed Harry Potter at the time I read it, it was a big part of my childhood, but I don't think I'll read the full series again, at least not for a while. (Harry and Ginny always felt rushed and predictable to me as well.)
It has been a while since I read Jane Eyre and I wasn't the biggest fan of it either. It is still one of the better Bronte books but it's not high on my list. I do want to re-read it at some point though because I have grown to like the classics I disliked and struggled to read as a teenager.
My movie adaptation/s that I preferred over the book/s are the Lord of the Rings films directed by Peter Jackson. The books by Tolkien (I read during highschool) I found difficult to understand and it was quite slow in pace. I prefer the Hobbit book to the Hobbit movie/s though.
Also, I hate the "love triangle" trope. So many hurt feelings because they (usually she) couldn't make up their mind about who they wanted to be with, and would lead the other two on for so damn long.
I love who harry ended up with but I always just though Ron and Hermione don't work all too well together. But then I never really liked Ron all that much?
I loved Strange the Dreamer so much I picked up Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I absolutely /hated/ that book. It was worse to me than most fanfictions and I was so disappointed by it. :(
Agree with the Cassandra Clare parts. I dnf'ed The Mortal Instruments after book 4 I think, with no intention of giving it a second chance. An adaption better than the book for me is The Vampire Diaries. The books are horrible and I quite like the changes they made in the show (like made Elena a likeable character and not a b*tch).
I love this tag. I tend to have very unpopular opinions (I don't like Harry Potter, for instance), so it's nice to see other people have unpopular opinions as well. I totally agree about Looking For Alaska btw, I hated just about every character in that book.
I read A Clockwork Angel, and it was fine. I have no desire to continue. This probably super unpopular, but I read Six of Crows and did not get the hype at all. It was meh for me.
Hi there. My name is Julie. Its nice to meet you. How are you doing? I agree with you completely when it comes to Cassandra Clare I read the first book and put it down after that or put the whole series down after that I could not get into her at all. I got the feeling like she gave all of her characters really badass powers but turned around and handcuffed them which I thought was very aggravating and she gave off the impression that she was a complete coward and I really didn't like that. I read so many other authors who did not handcuff their characters powers that were a lot better. I am actually currently reading the second book in the crazy Rich Asians trilogy that is called China rich girlfriend by Kevin Kwan and that has been really interesting and fun. I am also currently reading or really listening to the whole Harry Potter series. Happy reading and I will talk to you soon
Great video, Catriona! 😍❤ I don't know that I have any truly unpopular opinions. But. . . 1. The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is a favorite of lots of adult Urban Fantasy aficionados, and it's perhaps my least favorite series. It certainly is not among my top favorite series. 2. I HATED that Tiger's Curse book by Colleen Houck. (Well, I gave it two "it was okay" stars.) The MC, out of nowhere, turned from a mature-for-her-age teen into an immature angst-monster teen. 😕 3. The Reylo OTP ship. I don't see it. If she ends up with him, I will lose all respect for her. 😣😔 4. I actually like the first three Twilight books. But I so hated the fourth book that I will NEVER reread them. 😕 These are the only things I can think of. Are any of them Unpopular Opinions? I just don't know. 🤔 Oh! Here's one more. The Princess Bride by William Goldman? I despised the book. (So many people seem to love it. Why? 🤔) But I LOVE its movie adaptation! The movie was truly the best parts of the book for me.
Someone else who didn’t like Alaska! I hated pretty much all of the characters in that book, and since it’s primarily about the characters, I hated the book.
I'm so so so annoyed with the fact that everyone is raving about Love, Simon and I can't watch it until it hits the cinemas here, which is IN JUNE. LIKE WTF?!
Earlier in January, I just gave up halfway though the Maze Runner audio book, but then for some reason I requested the whole series from my library... I sat down and tried to read it, but I was so bored and really hated it.
Hate city of bones and heard some not great thing about Cassandra Clare herself so I probably never read anything by her xD Also have no interest in reading Throne of glasses or A court of rose and fury because I heard that the books lack diversity, especially on the lgbtq+ spectrum.
I also did not like who Harry, Ron and Hermione ended up with. Felt like there were characters that eachone of them were more compatible with. That they shared more chemestry with. (I 'm sorry if I offended anyone. If I did, I did not mean to offend you. You are allowed to think what you want.).
I have never heard of anyokne who disliked Jace as well. I feel like he was annoyingly self-assured and I couldn't deal with his ego. I had to finish the whole TMI series to really notice it. Jace is probably my least favorite character ever.
Jacky Star I only liked him in first book... And movie
Lol Jane Eyre is like the only novel from the Victorian era that I absolutely adore. It does read very slow, but I think that it's all worth it for the huge twist at the end. i still don't understand why harry HAD to end up with someone... that epilogue will forever scream profession fanfic fan-servicing to me.
I pretty much agree with you on every point. Especially the the cassandra clare books and Jace’s character. I also disliked Alaska a loooott
Oohh and as far as the book vs tv adaptation definitely the 300 the tv series was sooooo much better
I do agree with you on Casandra Clare, never really loved the mortal instruments, but having said that I probably will give the first book another chance because I did read the series when I was quite young and didn’t read books in English yet. Ditto on Tris' character development in Insurgent! Tough but so important.
I'm SO excited to watch Love, Simon! 😍

Agree about Looking for Alaska and especially the character of Alaska
Definitely agree, I loved Simon Vs a lot but I found the movie a lot more profound and moving knowing that I wasn't just seeing it alone.
I ♥️'ed insurgent
I am still salty about the fact that one of my fave youtubers spoiled those books for me.
I HATED the Shatter Me trilogy, and everyone else loves it. I also found the second and third books in the poison trilogy a little boring. 😓
Edit: Same with the Chosen One trope! I want the characters to earn the title/power. It shouldn't just be handed over to them.

I don't think I'm ever going to (voluntarily) read Fifty shades of gray ether.... In my opinion, it romanticizes the abusive relationship, and it is a bit dangerous for a book that promotes BDSM.

I'm not a fan of the Divergent series, but the serum scene in Insurgent is one of my all time favorite book scenes. It's hilarious.
You should totally read the daughter of smoke and bone series! They are sooooo good ❤️
Your OTP response---I feel that on an emotional level.
I totally agree with you on the OTPs.
I had the same opinion about love, Simon. I was practically screaming while watching the Ferris wheel scene at the end.
Agreements and disagreements:
Jane Eyre is one of if not my absolute favourite book, but I agree with you on Insurgent, I dislike the same genres as you and I didn’t jump on the Alaska bandwagon either, that said I love The Fault in our stars, but that might be the only John Green book I enjoyed.
I never was a good fan of TMI either however I did like the Clockwork series. I read and saw Simon just a day apart an have the exact opposite opinion to yours, I liked the book ever so slightly better than the movie.
Ugh! You're hair always looks amazing!!! Xx
I'm glad I'm not alone on the Cassandra Clare books! The Mortal Instruments series was ok. I completely agree about Love Simon! It was such an amazing movie. I feel like everything I didn't enjoy in the book was corrected in the movie.
I 100% agree with you about in Insugent
I totally agree with Insurgent! It was my favourite book in the trilogy and I was surprised so many people disliked it. Although the dislike for Allegiant may be stronger 😂 I have no desire to read fifty shades either 😝
I loved" the Handmaids Tale" book but I enjoyed the show even more
Whyyyy is Love, Simon still not in cinema in The Netherlands?! I need to see it so bad! Everyone seems to LOVE it so much!
Such a fun video!
I see Cassandra Clare as the type of author who gets better with every book she writes. Her newest books are absolutely brilliant and completely deserve the praise they are getting. It's true that commitment is needed to appreciate her work, but it has been fascinating to witness the growth in her writing. So I do believe that if you continue you won't regret it.
Vladi VI my problem with CCs books now (even though I loved the mortal instruments when they where coming out) is that they are all about the same thing but with different characters and tbh at this point I’m just bored, I’m just not interested in reading about other characters not even when I read about them in city of heavenly fire 🙃 maybe when she writes about something not in the shadowhunters world
+LittleMissObsessive :D Well then I have good news for you.
Not a huge TMI fan at all but I did enjoy her other series, and not for Jace at all
totally agree about cassandra clare
I think my only ones would be that I loved The Cursed Child, whole everyone else hated it. My other would be Leigh Bardugo, I just can’t click with her writing at all.
I definitely agree about Jace...
I totally agree with the Love, Simon movie being better than the book. I don’t know it was just a little bit better in my opinion
I love jane eyre. It's one of my favorite classics, but I do understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Yes, especially someone who likes books written for teenage girls and anything with depth is boring to her...
Also not a Cassandra Clare fan, I can’t deal 😂 though I read A Clockwork Angel and am keen to pick up the next book eventually... haha
It has been a while since I read Jane Eyre and I wasn't the biggest fan of it either. It is still one of the better Bronte books but it's not high on my list. I do want to re-read it at some point though because I have grown to like the classics I disliked and struggled to read as a teenager.

Jessica Shanks agree 100 💯 LOTR is like s boring history anthology and the movies were amazing. OTOH the hobbit movies were godawful
Also, I hate the "love triangle" trope. So many hurt feelings because they (usually she) couldn't make up their mind about who they wanted to be with, and would lead the other two on for so damn long.
For me, I think Allegiant was the book that people disliked more than Insurgent. I remember liking Insurgent when I read it (years ago)
One of the reasons I follow you: we basically agree on all of these
I love who harry ended up with but I always just though Ron and Hermione don't work all too well together. But then I never really liked Ron all that much?
I know this has nothing to do with books but I have to ask... what eyeshadow and lipstick are you wearing? I love them!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who couldn’t get through the TID series.
Yes I feel you on the chosen one !!
i agree with you about love, simon. i loved the book and film but the film was just so HSFJDFJJD
I've zero desire to touch those infernal books by cassandra clare
I agree about Jane eyre. I enjoyed it until about two thirds through the book, then snore 😴 I also really liked insurgent. Allegiant was crap though.
I totally agree with you about Cassandra Clare. Personally, I think she's a little bit overrated. 😅
We have so much in common, to be honest! 😁
I ♡ your hair. I want mine to be that color :3
Will there be a new video today? I super hope so! I’ve been checking back all day long hoping to get one :)
I love this tag. I tend to have very unpopular opinions (I don't like Harry Potter, for instance), so it's nice to see other people have unpopular opinions as well. I totally agree about Looking For Alaska btw, I hated just about every character in that book.
you should definitely keep reading The Infernal Devices, Clockwork Prince and Princess are soooo good, you’ll love it
Will Herondale is bae
Just curious how you felt about the Percy Jackson series it did have the chosen one and prophecy tropes that you said you weren't fond of.
I read A Clockwork Angel, and it was fine. I have no desire to continue.
This probably super unpopular, but I read Six of Crows and did not get the hype at all. It was meh for me.
I agree about Cassandra Clare. 😬😅
Please reread Jane Eyre! Maybe you haven’t read it at the right time? ;) ❤️ lots of love from Spain
A series that I liked better that the book is definitely ‘13 reasons why’. The series made the characters into so much more I think.
Great video, Catriona! 😍❤
I don't know that I have any truly unpopular opinions. But. . .
3. The Reylo OTP ship. I don't see it. If she ends up with him, I will lose all respect for her. 😣😔
4. I actually like the first three Twilight books. But I so hated the fourth book that I will NEVER reread them. 😕
These are the only things I can think of. Are any of them Unpopular Opinions? I just don't know. 🤔
Oh! Here's one more. The Princess Bride by William Goldman? I despised the book. (So many people seem to love it. Why? 🤔) But I LOVE its movie adaptation! The movie was truly the best parts of the book for me.
Argh, everyone's saying that Love, Simon is an amazing movie and I want to watch it soo bad, but it doesn't come out until June in my country :(
I agree on the Jane Eyre thing. That was the most boring collection of words I have ever attempted to read.
See now I don't like Will or Clary from Shadowhunter books
I hated Alaska as well omg. And the last three books of the Mortal Instruments I have no desire to read either. 😂
Great video! Btw, did you want Harry, Ron and Hermione to end up with someone else or just not have a relationship?
See I still haven’t read the divergent books! And agreed to with disliking the harry potty otps 😭
Someone else who didn’t like Alaska! I hated pretty much all of the characters in that book, and since it’s primarily about the characters, I hated the book.
As to book and movie adaptation, Slumdog Millionaire turned out to be much better than the book "Q&A"
I'm so so so annoyed with the fact that everyone is raving about Love, Simon and I can't watch it until it hits the cinemas here, which is IN JUNE. LIKE WTF?!
Couldn't read Jane Eyre either, also liked Insurgent a bunch!!! My unpopular opinion is that I HATED the Maze Runner Series.
Earlier in January, I just gave up halfway though the Maze Runner audio book, but then for some reason I requested the whole series from my library... I sat down and tried to read it, but I was so bored and really hated it.
I did a challenge that I stayed up all night for reading the prequel. WASTE OF TIME!!!!
I didn't enjoy the Remnant Chronicles. Only got through the first two books but have no desire to pick up the last one. Just ugh no.
Hate city of bones and heard some not great thing about Cassandra Clare herself so I probably never read anything by her xD
Also have no interest in reading Throne of glasses or A court of rose and fury because I heard that the books lack diversity, especially on the lgbtq+ spectrum.
I tried the Cassandra Clare books and dnf'd the first. It bored me.
You must be the first booktuber saying you didn't like Jace. GIRL WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL THIS TIME?
Deffinately no desire to read the fifty shades trilogy, at all
I also did not like who Harry, Ron and Hermione ended up with. Felt like there were characters that eachone of them were more compatible with. That they shared more chemestry with. (I 'm sorry if I offended anyone. If I did, I did not mean to offend you. You are allowed to think what you want.).
