I haven't even heard what he's going to say. But my take is be interested in the other person and ask questions to learn more about them. Bty I'm an introvert who is interested in others. So small talk with me is fine. I love football but avoid anything political.

I LOVE politics, but I can't stand talking about it with other people. Even people I align with most times. The main reason is because, like you said, people don't know how to have conversations anymore. I see it on both sides of the isle. It's like we start the conversation trying to find the best solution for everyone and somewhere in the middle it turns to name calling. I do think I know the problem to. I think people don't know how to talk about things in general. They hear words being spoken, then they take it personally and get upset. For example, if you talk about how pasteurized milk shouldn't be illegal there is always one person that's like well my grandpa sold pasteurized milk and he wasn't a bad person. It's like dude, I'm not talking about YOU. The world doesn't revolve around YOU. I see this pattern in almost every conversation I have. That was a ridiculously exaggerated example but you get the point. You can apply that to almost any general conversation. The worst part is, It's almost like they are baiting you into saying their grandpa was a bad person when they bring it up. Apply this to something like abortion and you could see where it could quickly fly off the rails.
When I watch successful people on podcasts, they hardly run into this problem. It seems to be low IQ OR the most emotional people that struggles the most with this.

Small talk about the weather...please don't. Yes, I know the approximate temperature/humidity/precipitation, and I don't wish to be someone's weatherman if I'm coming from a different area. It's ridiculous. If we're talking about the weather, I already know you have nothing interesting to say, and neither do I.

Actually it would have been 5 days. 3 work days and 2weekend days. She probably started to smell. So sad.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what I read in other articles regarding this story. Eventually, the janitor found her body when people complained about a smell. Workers in other parts of the building thought there was a problem with the septic system.
