Market sucks
But why not?
Corporate America and propaganda shit wait if you want too
I’m in a similar situation. I’m not sure what I would like to do next. I do feel like it is time to move on. I’ve always just worked jobs and never really thought more about what I’m good at or interested in due to the fact of most of my working life has been spent on the production floor. Then about 5 years ago, moved on to the office 8-5 life bc I thought it was the right move for my family - work life balance.
I think it’s the same people who calculate that unemployment is in the 4s, that calculated Harris was going to win the presidency in early November.
The Fed has been facing their decisions on bad government.Job numbers that are about to get updated , which will be a shark to the system
We've been in a cooling job market for well over a year
Corporate culture is narcissistic and old...
This is huge. Thanks Ken
This is a fantastic dialog of the current state of the job market and hiring practices. Thank you!
Entry-level jobs are outsourced overseas, and those foreigners will have experience. After they gain experience, firms want to bring to the USA and get well-paid jobs while Americans drive Uber to pay bills. I was looking for internships, and recruiters are asking why I don’t have Experience, and it’s just my second year at the university. 😂 All entry-level Jobs are fake, and entities post fake jobs to appear financially successful.
Who you know? Not always.
I watched this entire 32 minute video hoping that you would address your actual title of this video. You did not. All you did was give examples of outliers being able to recontextualize and reinvent themselves and don’t let firing limit you. This has nothing to do with being fired in 2024. I just lost my job and after 30 minutes of listening all I got from this was day 1 cry and tell those you trust day 2 have some fun day 3 tell everyone and get back to work. That’s all I got from this. In fact, my comment on this video is more constructive than 30 minutes of your talk. You have a responsibility to address important topics with care. You have a very elevated voice due to your stature you should take this seriously. People are profoundly struggling and don’t need someone to drone on and on.
Could it be that Gen x is closer to Retirment therefore they "worry" about it more? A 35-year-old millennial might not be worried about retirement since the horizon of that generation is so far away. Also, this is more a vibes question not necessarily something we can quantitate with numbers or some data to interpret.
At job #1,300….two rejections today, from a job I applied for 2 days ago. 1-3 rejections yesterday, 1 rejection a few days before that. Im doing like 5-15 jobs a day. Sone days no apps. Its depressing but i cant stop and give up. I cant even get an interview to these remote jobs or local jobs. I had two remote jobs in 2022.
Dude just taught CBT in 5 minutes. Recognize doubt, see if there's any evidence for it, and then act contrary to your doubt to then see that you're doing better than before. Eventually you'll get your confidence :)
I don't feel sad when someone in HR is laid off.
So glad I dropped out of school and work 20 yrs ago
Wow, watch every single minute. Best video on TH-cam on this topic right now. I highly recommend watching all the way through! ❤❤
This video was incredible. I know networking is important. May I ask, what is good advice to start networking? Thank you!
Best advice is look for a job while you are at your current employer and don't tell anyone. After, you get the offer from the second job then give your two weeks notice. Caveat: If the job is affecting your health quit. It is not worth it.
Most people want a job but don't actually want to work!
Any relation to the Ken Coleman that did radio and TV for the 1970's - 1980's Boston Red Sox??
As employees we are nothing more than a number to employers. No matter how long you've been with a company you can be replaced. Also, mutual respect has gone out the window.
I struggle before 11 am. I prefer the boring emails first thing in the morning. I actually have the most energy from 11 - 5 and I don’t get the post lunch fatigue. The key is we are not all built the same.
Any clerical employee with college credits can transfer to a medical assistant degree at a tech school if one has a passion for the medical field.
You need to factor in the amount of experience you’ll need for these as well…
My life has become a nightmare of my parents and other relatives able to make me feel like a professional and financial failure. It is as if I am viewed as the only useless or unskilled person in the America. I did complete a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona in 1995, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2001. Yet, I have been viewed as useless through much of the 21st century. All of my immediate relatives are able to terrorize me into inferiority including the girlfriends/partners of my nephews. For some reason, I seem trapped in this situation. I do not want to see them, even for holidays. The stock markets have made me feel the same way. I see people driving in vehicles every day, and feel terrible about my life.
Really? How much of your life’s worth has to be defined by other in order for you to feel good with yourself? Trust God brother. He’s the only thing that will bring you true peace to not care what others think
The answer is found in Christianity. Life is not about you. It’s about serving and having a relationship with God. Once you step off your own throne and give your entire life to God, you’ll find that peace you are missing.
Thank God am old. Sorry kids but you are screwed. This free lance stuff is bs, this is way too much just to earn a living. There is going to be a lot of homeless people in this so called future.
Great insight. You just described me.
I got let go because I was not communicating enough on the job and there was no warning. If a recruiter or an interviewer asks me why I left my job, what should I say?
Just lie, the chances of them following up with your last employer is slim to none. But you have to work on that communication thing for the next job.
@lombardo141 Thank you. If I say that I was laid off, would the interviewer try to find out if my company was doing lay offs?
Good video
I suppose the best thing that can happen to me is I get some kind of technical employment outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Because any time I am around my parents, my sister, her husband, my nephews, and their partners/girlfriends, I feel terrorized into inferiority. It is like I am supposed to feel like a terrible person surrounded by apparently morally perfect people when I am around them. Is my life meant to be a nightmare of these people making me feel like an inferior person, with nothing but success and apparent perfection?
I think that having kids with health issues, food allergies, and mental health disorders is on level with bad managers, if not causing more stress in my home.
Gracias
A stupid, short-sighted perspective at the very least. I think the reason is more nuanced and societal than BOOMERS actually care to understand.
25:22 This.
Maybe unemployment numbers are low because people are taking jobs at DoorDash or something. But if you want a good paying job that is extremely hard right now it seems.
Friends at work is not a one size fits all rule. Depends on person, situation, environment…PERIOD.
This is so true. I work for a company. 3 woman managers/ 1 male worker ratio. They don't know the product and are bossy. Treat us like 2nd class.
The company doesn't own you it's not wrong to hustle and work multiple jobs even full time if that's what you need to make ends meet as 90% of jobs in this day and age are not livable wages especially if you are providing for your family. If that company whines about you having another job and "cheating" on them they can go fuck themselves
Work-life balance is having normal work hours + don’t fking contact me outside of said work hours
that unemployment number is inaccurate it doesn't take into account people who have stopped looking for jobs but who don't have one and some other stupid qualifications
Work life balance means work is work and the rest of your time is your own life. Period. Your employer has no say in your own time.
Couldn’t agree more
As much as I HATE my career in healthcare there is a major shortage. Major. I am planning to open my own company and I am glad I will have a backup career if my company doesn’t do well.
Love this!!!
Gracias
Friends hire friends
People need 2 jobs cause everything is expensive.
I worked as a supervisor at the Casino within my area never ever trust anyone, work and finish the job. I don’t trust anyone, and I live everyday at the fullest of my potential with happiness.
Not true the wages are so low it's not worth it
