  • I've been talking a little bit about roast colour analysis recently and have mentioned that I use a Lighttells device. So, how do you use a Lighttells roast coffee colour analyser?
This short will briefly walk you through the steps I take whilst using the Lighttells analysis tool. You will firstly need to select a sample amount of coffee from the chosen roast. This needs to be around 50g of beans that will be ground down. Next, grind your beans on a grind size that you will use for all of your samples going forward. I won't explain in too much detail here, but a consistent grind size is very important. Place the ground coffee into the Lighttells analysis dish, place the apparatus on top of the dish and turn it on. Once on, select the Scale button to run the analyzer. You will wait a few seconds before being given a roast colour number (75, 82, 95.3 etc) and wording (light, very light, extremely light etc).
And there you have it. A neat video about how to quickly assess the colour of your roasted coffee batch. It's then on to cup the coffee to confirm it tastes good.
