I've owned Pete and Kenworth in the past, now I drive the 14 Mack CXU and will never ride another truck but Mack. M Drive is great and with my tune i'm usually at 7.6=8.2 fully loaded and also I purchased a Diesel Laptop dealer level to keep my truck out of the shops.
I own a Mack Pinnacle with MP7 the truck run great fuel efficiency smooth ride. the only down side from my point of view are, dash board the wiper control Botton ridiculous small mirror botton. windows control in the arm rest fall apart with even touch them..the compartments useless.door dragging in the flooor.but its all good if you need a work truck only.
The new Mack's basically Volvo and the I shift is the best transmission out there. On the really steep stuff at big weights, I believe that transmission will out perform a driver with a gear stick and I know my way around an 18 speed.
i know this is a pro driver site, but gonna put my 2 cents in anyway...we have a 2006 Mack Vision. It has 900k on it. it's to haul a 5R that weighs ~20k...yeh, yeh I know...but I'm from a long line of drivers, my mom, dad, late husband, myself. I had to talk a bit to get my currant hubby on board with a hdt for our 5R (saftey.....its all about safety). The mechanics on a Mack, totally true, if you find a good mechanic, better be nice to him. Ours needed a new ECM, it was a ranch truck from day one, and having driven farm/ranch vehicles I wasn't surprised some stuff was just "fixed" to run. Our guy is great. I love the Mack. It's a bear. Only thing is...2006 was a cross over year...only year they made it. Everything is just "that" year. Good luck even finding someone with the software. Our guy is a Mack/Volvo dealer/mechanic...only one in state that could fix. If you see an old white Mack towing a old white Alfa 5R, it's us...nice to be unique.
I purchased a mack and will never buy another one. The truck it's self is pretty good but finding mechanics that will work on the mp8 is like trying to win the lottery. So you are pretty much forced to only use mack dealers and they get in zero hurry to get your truck fixed. My trucks been in the mack shop going on 9 days for new injectors. The dealer I use act like I'm bothering them if I call to ask for updates with MY truck. After this 13k bill I will drive this truck until next spring and trade it in on a Kenworth so I atleast have options on a shops.
Yeah you're going from dependable and solid to utterly trash. I know I drive a peterbuilt car hauler with the auto. The engine have so many frequent visits to shop and the trucks do to plus, you think you get bad service at the mack shop wait till you have to find a Kenworth/ peterbuilt shop that are far and free between and always hard to find available parts. If you get a mack or Volvo there are many of them and you can also opt for having a Cummins in it then you can't go wrong
They’re owned by Volvo. But different down to the bones. If you blindfolded me and sat me in either I’d be able to tell you which one is which. That should help.
Poorly put together truck. All plastic. Cab rattles. Engine Not bad. Steering is sketchy. Low beams are too bright. The shock absorbers used didn’t last 5k mikes. Steering gear box bolts were not torqued properly. Windshield wipers are crap, not the blades, but the wiper assembly and spray jets. Everything breaks easily. The door handles and the hood latches. Flex tubes leading off upper exhaust pipes are cheap and very brittle. Mack is Whack.
Mack is not really Mack any more since they teamed up with Volvo Mack m drive is just a variation of volvos idiot shift Me I’m a old stick & throttle man

I have the same truck I call it " She so special"💖
I drive a Volvo VNR every day. LOVE that truck! The turning radius is nuts! Plus it rides fantastic, and it pulls HARD. Mine has the 12 speed iShift.
Im looking at buying one or a mack

I-shift is great
I like the Pinnacle, but the leg room sucks. Not sure why they designed the dash to cramp your legs up

You thought the mp8 was bad just wait till you buy a kw with a paccar motor 😂.

Unless you love hanging out with the guys in the shop, or being forced to go 55 mph because of a power derate. Do not buy a KW.

How many miles can put in a MP8 engine usually? Designed for over 1.5 millions miles?
Without doing any research, I'm Curious are Macks just Volvos with a Mack badge or do they have a lot of their own characteristics?
They have lots of their own characteristics

Too bad Mack went with Volvo and stopped any production an owner operator would want. But the older ones are ok.
