Another way to check for air leaks is a spray bottle with soapy water, the problem with that first truck you looked at, might be an alignment issue or king pins, but you did a pretty thorough check, next time bring some rags to check the oil, check the fuel tank straps and see if the tanks have moved and that they're not leaking, most of the time my son and myself did our own servicing, oil change, filters, grease u-joints, shocks, can shocks, brakes to save cost, also did airbags, belts, fan clutch, sometimes we be out there till late in the evening, working on our equipment 3 Trucks and 3 trailers
I could sure appreciate that man going to look at a truck with me, I sure learned a lot from him today!!! A very nice, wise man, very informative too!!!
My first truck as an Owner Operator is a 2013 CXU613 very similar to that one. I’ve had it a year and a half. Had to fix quite a bit it wasn’t as good s shape as the one your looking at but it’s a great running truck lots of power. Has Eaton 10 speed manual. I’m in Colorado mostly run mountains mostly. An overdrive transmission would be better however it has good power. I had it turned up from 445 hp to 505. K&N air filter helps power and fuel economy i’ve noticed. Put injectors in it and a few emissions related sensors I’ve driven Cat powered trucks most of my career and I’m pretty impressed with my Mack. Its not. Peterbilt but a good truck none the less.
I had an EGR cooler get a micro fine crack internally and didn't burn off enough coolant to make it noticeable my coolant would be down maybe a half inch in the tank at a time but would heat up and rise back up hot cold hot cold it stayed really close to the full mark and didn't give any indication that it was steaming out internally in the EGR , EGR is first emmisions component on the exhaust side so everything behind it got cooked, corroded or gummed up, long story short 2 trips to MHC who just threw parts at it then 1 trip to Cummins to actually diagnose and repair around $30k right now I own a 2000 pre emissions CAT and will do everything I legally can to stay in a pre emissions tractor.
Yes buddy these trucks now a days are just trash honestly and this guy gets paid for sure by all these dealers no one walks up to a truck at a dealer and you just pull a full dot pre trip inspection its like the car dealers who tag your car from where you bought it it makes you check their inventory and gives that dealer a high probability of someone buying from them this guy doing the same thing he's advertising for this. dealers and yeah bro my friends all own old school trucks because of all this new junk that there's around now only good macks are the old CH models period
@@DIYSEMI after watching your video 3 time literally just went back thur the mack and to add not tools I'm in Wisconsin driving for a company however live in NJ sooo no jack ...your information great I will be reaching out
very good video, thank you! fantastic... unbelived in spanish all the videos about Mack pinnacle are shit. I only see one video in english, your video, and it is pure gold. sorry for my English bro!
10 years ago the volvo was better nowadays it's the freightliner. My company switched to volvos in 2016. Now were going back to freighliners. Volvos are in the shop over and over about 5x more than freightliners. These are bought new. If/when the rear mounted power steering pump bolts come loose on a volvo your talking 15k to 20k to fix. This is happening 500kish. The best volvo was a 99 with either a cummins n14 or cummins ism. Great mpg and always went over a million miles with a set only a set of injectors...way better than even the real ch macs. My 2 cents.
Nice inspection, seems to be the same way you would inspect a car that runs on gas, just that there's different systems and parts in place on a big truck with a diesel and air brakes. I know about cars, motorcycles, small engines, etc. Can you make a video notating the additional systems in place on a diesel truck for a car guy that already understands how gas engines work?
I drove one and put 400k on it. Lifetime of 8.2 mpg with minimal idle. It was okay while under warranty... The owner eventually said it was the worst truck purchase for him (10 units) they were 2013 models.
Hey There, great content. You mentioned you were checking truck out for someone. Do you do that as a side paid service, assisting with search of used purchase? Thanks!
I wasn't sure at first either, but the drivers seem to love them. fuel mileage could be better, but overall we run 4 of them and have been very good trucks
Personally, I would never consider a volvo/mac because they are very expensive to work on being the fact that volvo has the market cornered on them and so there's few aftermarket parts available. I mean I'm sure they're great when there are no problems but when stuff breaks it can get expensive fast. I know this is the case with any truck but it is more the case with Volvo's. With that being said I'm looking at them a bit differently since your considering them. I respect your opinion in other words. And as you said being the way the market is, it may be something I need to consider that is if I can't find a Freightliner with a DD15 in it.
@@DIYSEMI Yes, it sucks. I may have to go with an international lol with a Cummins at least to get me through until the prices come down on the Freightliners. I looked at a truck maybe 2 months ago, 2016 fre cas 555k 10sp apu 42,500. today that same truck 52,500. I didn't realize at the time that would be one of the last ones I'd see at that price. Go a couple months back before that and they were even cheaper. have been consistently increasing.
Great video, actually considering the same truck. One question, does the dealer cover oil sample, and other testing or is that on you? I suspect you cover these costs. This is my first truck purchase. Many thanks
The maintenance shop should cover the cost and any diagnostics you want done, just mention it before you sign the contract, make sure you have good tires all around, shocks, alignment if the truck needs it, but proactive and visually check everything
Of course you skipped out on how to open the hood. That’s literally the one thing I cannot figure out on this truck and I cannot find it anywhere in the handbook and I cannot find any videos or answers on Google. I have this as a rental and it’s telling me the coolant is low. So can somebody here tell me how to open the damn hood
