- COLLAB!!! It's a good thing! I'm grateful that I have awesome and qualified friends, and Kiwi is one of the best! @kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 is a must-stop on your TH-cam Journey, just as is Derek @ViceGripGarage . This week, we tub the bed of his custom OBS Chev, and Derek and I discuss plans for a reveal of the truck, suspension, and interior mods. It's a great episode! Thanks for watching, and don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!!!! Don't forget to visit www.paintucati... for all your autobody instructional video needs!

Every time i work with @kiwiclassicsandcustoms Chris Slee, I learn something! Great to have him help, and he really made quick work out of this project. October is a tight deadline for all the stuff we have planned! stay tuned! Thanks for watching. :)
I love it when you get together with the other car guys. It reminds of growing up, just over the mountains in NC, building cars trucks and motorcycles with my dad and all our buddies hanging around, lending a hand, shootin the bull. Man, I miss those times, and my dad's ear for tuning a carburetor. Dad's, teach your kids to build stuff. I remember everything he said when I take out that screwdriver to tune that Quadrajet, edelbrock, etc....
And young folks, get your parents involved in your projects, even if they don't know squat about it. Enjoy it. Thanks guys
We will sure follow this project.
I don't know if I could understand everything Kiwi says, but it sure would be nice to hear what he says.
Kevin Tetz ? you and vice grip must be rich. yall got all these expensive cars etc. yall must have a lot of money for registration and insurance.
I love seeing you on TH-cam now. It's less "polished" and "corporate" than the TV shows, and much more personable and authentic. It's nice seeing the actual work being done and not just a before and after shot with 3 to 5 seconds of B-Roll footage in between.
@@BiggHoss I really like the freedom of TH-cam... We're not stuck to a tight format and don't have to plan around commercials. It's a game changer. Thanks for watching!
WOW! My three favorite TH-cam automotive content creators together!! 👍👍👍
☮️ on 🌎
Thanks man! I really appreciate that! :)
Kiwi does amazing metal work. The fastback cougar is one of his amazing builds.
Thanks to Derek for pointing me in the direction of Kevin's channel here..... now thank you to Kevin for pointing me in the direction of a fellow Kiwi, haven't heard a Kiwi accent since I moved here to Cananada in 2020. Can't wait to see the finished product here, as per usual, great content Kevin
Thanks for watching and checking in!!
Same Kiwi from Uncle Tony's Garage.
The entire automotive TH-cam universe is coming together
It sounds funny Kevin calling Kiwi Chris everybody knows him as Kiwi!
Awesome another channel i follow kiwi derek and KT.
Great to see him colab with good guys and not that other selfish bloke UT.
Still remember derek's vgg white crew cab video when he first meets you. Very cool.
Thanks man!!! 'Preciate ya!
MY Man is a surgeon with that sawzall!!
Nice to see you guys collaborating!
Awesome, 3 legends in 1 episode.
I know Kiwi from Uncle Tony he always has those interesting builds or buys that people bring to him to get fixed and there are many of them LOL!!
Great to see you both together again can’t wait till the end result. 😊
Agreed! I'm gonna try and snag him back here for paint prep! LOL! ( many hands..._)
TRIFECTA. Canada, US and Kiwi. All great Motor heads Love you Boys Time for a Barley Pop.
I 2nd Derek's comment about seats and carpet. I have a 1976 Triumph Spitfire with a worn, tired original interior. I recently replaced the seat foam and upholstery and replaced the carpet. That turned the looks of the interior around. It looks so much better overall, and it's a nicer place to spend time.
You two guys are awesome thanks for your videos
@@sammylisasmith2104 thanks for watching!!! It's a two way street.👍
Truck is looking good. Keep up the great work and videos Kevin
You need to talk Derek into bringing you that Anniversary Corvette he picked up and bring it back to all its glory so he has a "goin-to-town" rig he can take Jessica for date night runs on...just sayin... And I love watching all your content, Coloabs and just you. Awesome stuff!
Thank you so much for the links and great reconstruction information!! Excellent technique and basic information!!
I would love to join you Kevin on one of your videos. I've done this for more then 30 years and think listening to your knowledge would be a blessing along with knocking out a cool project 😎
Can't wait to see this truck come together. Also looking forward to more on the Camaro.
Idea for your next collab: the 78 25th anniversary corvette Derek just revived and drive home. Would be awesome to see that restored!
I really love the people interecation in this video. I am kinda new to your channel but I really like your stuff and how you show and explain things. Top content maker!
Welcome aboard! I'm just trying to show my process, and some of what goes into these procedures. Glad you're here!
Kevin and Chris! I love the camaraderie between you guys! Two guys doin what they love!
Thanks man!!! Chris is a good friend.
@@paintucation it shows - you guys are like brothers 😂.
31:00 omg the bloopers. I'm rolling here. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Please do more like this
I keep saying, I like how you show the multiple fitment and refinement process and using tool most people would have like a Sawzall, and tinsnips, as opposed to the cable shows that show the first cut and then it's magically time to weld, then it's installed!
I would love to see a video on how to paint interior plastic parts
The crossover episode I didn't know I needed. I have watched Kiwi repair some horribly hacked cars on his channel, I love his "it's no big deal" attitude about everything. He goes about putting in floorpans and rockers in a mustang the way most folks go about changing spark plugs.
There's alot to learn from his methods.... I tend to get emotional about things, he just mows through!
At 63 still in my one man bodyshop western pa deerhits in fall and my specialty is rust work rest of the time. Watching your videos makes me want to do projects and restoration again but as years go by the work hours are less 😢😢😢
I have watched you on TV and now get to follow you on TH-cam love all the content keep up the great work
You guys have some genius metal fabrication going on. Nice precision work.
Hi Kevin, thank you for all the great videos! Good you give me some advice on what to purchase for my first paint guns? Cheers from Canada
I really appreciate the precision and craftsmanship. So many cars today are hacksmanship and total sheet. It’s nice to see such attention to detail and quality work. It’s a very elegant and subtle solution. That would look fabulous with a red interior
Right? so many ugly patina jobs. I was surprised to see Dylan McCool go to a car show and most the cars were not patina so hopefully that ugly trend is going away. Of course Dylan brought a patina car, but the rest were not. I like watching Him and pole barn garage but they do tend to just skim over bad stuff instead of fixing it properly. Although pole barn does do good body work (sometimes) where it can be seen, and he does fairly decent cheap paint jobs.
Kiwi must have a crushing handshake being able to cut thru that metal with tin snips.
I love watching you and Derek working together, your sense of humors compliment each other.
This is going to be one awesome truck
Love seeing the collabs with Derek.
I greatly enjoy watching the two of you work together, your friendship shows through as well as the quality of work. Side note: if I ever meet Mr Slee, remind me to NOT shake hands with him. Good golly, watching him cut the bed! 😮 Thanks for taking us along and teaching us ~ Chuck
Gonna be honest here, the only reason I subscribed is because of Derek. I have enough skills to do what you do! I just never miss anything Derek is involved in. You are blessed for him to have even mentioned you!
@@Odawg3709 wow!! I'm lucky! 😁
Looking forward to seeing the truck when it's finished. Ready to see y'all at the car show. Unfortunately I will have to wait till y'all put out the video.
My best friend grabbed one of these a year or two old and I couldn't wait to drive it. Wow, was I unimpressed. He also owned a 1985 Monte Carlo SS and a 1987 Camaro SS at the same time. That time for GM was boring with the exception of the GNX. I'm happy to see owners modding them turning and tuning them into ground pounders.
I saw the title and thought about kiwi fruit but I heard Chris talking and realized he’s from New Zealand so it’s actually the kiwi bird native to New Zealand. Cool rear wheel tubs. That gonna be a nice ride! Thanks Kevin
Thanks for watching! It's always fun to work with CHRIS SLEE!!!
Great hearing you pass on the tip of cutting both the patch and the original metal at once, perfectly matching the cut line to weld. In our autobody world, it is well known, but I have seen many on TH-cam not know how to use this technique. Resulting in making more work for themselves cutting and fitting, then more cutting and fitting. Then finally ending up with an uneven weld line making it more difficult to weld too.
Thank you.
Nice to see the tub widening with tools most guys have in their shops. The arthritis in my hands swells up just watching it but for those with good hands they have the tools. Are you using regular cut off discs or diamond ones?
Kevin I'm glad your bringing in other experts to help you out when you get out of your comfort zone.
Nobody grows or learns in a bubble of comfort... It takes a hard look at ones ego to ask for help, I've found that I gain more by admitting that I don't know everything. :)
I thought it was a gamble when Derek was going for a 10 flat with that 10 bolt😂 for science
these collabs are great having 2 minds knocking heads to work out ideas and implement them. Chris being originally from across the ditch from me there are some very smart and talented kiwi's in the automotive sector. between the 2 of you i am sure this will be a knock out ute that looks like it rolled off the production line.
Thanks man!
man derick is a great guy ,it was cool to see you guys together ,im thinking old school wheels solid steelie wheel painted same color as the truck with a red out line on the bead area and chrome center cap, like the idea of lowering it ,
That’s a nice truck Derek. Hope to one day see it in person. I’m in Morristown tn. Not to far from you. I’ve been watching you for years. You and your family have came a long way. God sure has blessed you. But again. That’s a nice looking obs
I love the socket situation with the wheels that was hilarious.I'm still laughing about.I love how you're not afraid to show your mistakes because it's very entertaining
Hey! Stuff like that happens, whether we show it or not! Lol !!! 'Mizell-tell the truth.😁
Howdy Kevin that truck looks amazing so far, can't wait to see it finished ! Find myself from Massachusetts right outside of Boston. Been living in Arizona the last 6 years retired, when people ask me about my accent where I'm from: when people ask me about my accent they want to know where I'm from I tell him I don't have an accent you do, where I come from we all sound the same. Actually it's funny you mention the Kiwis because some people have asked me if I come from New Zealand....
Can't wait to see this truck done! I should be at the c10 nationals
Dude, I'mm gonna do my level best to get it there!!!
Hey Kevin I did my first automotive paint job last year using information from several of your videos. It came out great!! I’m the same age as you. Really like watching your videos also Derrick and Criss. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! Todd from Minnesota.
Hey Todd! What an honor! Thanks for your kind words! I'm so glad the videos help! glad yo're here for this journey!
Fun truck! Cannot wait to see wheels and tires. Thanks
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. It’s Saturday morning, so watching all you guys on one ( 1 ) is great ! I have Buffalo Bills game on the NFL network ! So one show 3 hosts does not get better than that ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍🇺🇸
Hey Mr B!!! always an honor to have you checking in on us. :) Thanks buddy!
Very good. This is coming along nicely.
Thank you! Cheers!
19:33 A very rare video of Kevin standing next to his biggest fan!
Truly a man of the people. 😜
That actually IS my biggest fan!! Lol!
Good new tip on plasma cutter works faster and clean if you have a way to stay straight. Crank up air and move fast..lol
Great video! I love camaro's, and have built a few 5th Gens. I like the body style of yours. It great to have the vision no one else sees to save a car like that!!
Be great to see you two do the silver vet Derik just picked up!
Truck looks sweet, those wheel wells are the bomb... Can't wait(bbutt I got to) to see what you two come up with...
I love watch your stuff Kevin, always interesting, I always learn something. I remember watching you on TV when I was a kid/teen. You are making me want to start tearing into my car, cutting and welding new floor pans and a trunk pan into it! The painting is what scares me!
KT you nailed it on the Aussie / Boston language barrier, I just knew he said Yahd Stick! C'mon Man! Nice clean Factorious job on the tubs👍
FACTORIOUS! that's anew one! Stealing it! LOL! thanks buddy.
@@paintucation it's all yours bud
Great episode.
But was the one socket that was stuck on backwards?
It's one of those dual-ended ones, two different sizes that a short extension fits into from either side.
I can't wait to have time to watch this.
Yall both need to come to cruisin the coast in October
I like your idea of the leather on the side bolsters and the original style fabric in the seating area and back. I had a '92 Silverado d have an '01 2500 Hd now and the earlier seats were more comfortable and better made than the newer models in my opinion.
OBS is getting popular indeed! Looking forward to the end result!
Kiwi's entire vibe is immaculate. I'd love to kick around the shop for a few days working next to him!
He's one of those guys that's very economical and efficient with his work... Alot happens quickly!!! I love learning from him!
A 4 door short bed version of that 454SS would be 😄 (I know, That will never happen, But... It would be cool!!)
Killer work so far and can’t wait to see the end result!
So glad I came across your channel through Derek! (I've been telling everyone I know to check it out.) It's a crime you don't have 10x the subscribers! Can't wait to see the finished truck and the Garbage Camaro as well. Appreciate the hell out of you Kevin.
I really appreciate that Phil! I'm working towards more subscribers, but it's a process. I'm happy we've got the folks we have! I'll do my best to keep putting out good content. Thanks man!
First!!! Love watching you guys!!! Keep it up!!!
We definitly will!
This project is moving forward at a good pace. It will be a nice show driver soon.
Fantastic collaboration between some talented guys. I'm not far from Lebanon so hopefully I'll see you soon.
Kiwi is cooler than a fan love that guy
The "buffed with 180" paint reminds me of the custom truck for Van Hallen!
When installing the roll pan, maybe add a "Camero" hinged plate bracket with a receiver behind it?
Some "CARHART" Seatcovers would be great for durability...
Looking very nice 👍👍
That’s gonna be allota shiny for a guy😂👍🏻 you and Derrick are a good team. I hope it works out for you both to install the suspension in an episode. Might have to make a road trip to Tennessee in October if you guys schedule it.
We'll let ya know as soon as it fleshes out!!
Tell Derek that we want to eat our barbecue lunch on the tailgate too 😂🤣
LOL!!! will do!!!
It always is amazing to me how different people approach problems differently and notice different things about them. To me looking at those wheel tubs the biggest problem I notice right away is that they aren't level/flat. The top isn't the same height towards the middle of the bed as it is up against the side of the bed so cutting off the inner section you're going to have to deal with it being much smaller than the new piece of metal. To me the easiest (yet still difficult) way to do it is to do what low riders and custom guys have always done before aftermarket panels were available.. Cut the stock tub at the flattest part before it starts getting smaller and add a X" wide strip of steel into it and just shape it around the tub as you tack it in. The other option would be to get a set of tubs that are large enough from another model truck (certain old Fords and Dodges had HUGE inner tubs because their bed sides weren't very deep) and just make those fit.
To me using the replacement factory tubs like you did is probably the hardest way to do it just because of that roll over they have that makes them larger on one side than the other.
Love this build. 😊😊😊😊
Hey Chris 👍🙋♂️👍
Hey bud!!
Really enjoyed this episode. I learned something today. So that makes it a great day!
Looking good great job
Just put the impact on it and reverse it take the lug and socket off then get the right one. If its still stuck after loosing the lug gently tap alternate sides of the socket.
Love your channel and been learn tons…thanks for your great approach
Looking good!
I can't wait to see this truck finished!
Just excellent kev thank you!!
I had 355’s from a corvette under my square 80’s S-10. This should not be a problem.
Chevrolet sold '67 through '72 cab and chassis duallys. You could have a dealer installed pick up bed. The dually axle had the second pair of tires inboard of the main pair, not outboard like today. So the dealers would cut the bed and install a second wheel tub just as you did on this truck to gain tire clearance.
Hello fellas that truck is coming along nice
Looking good
Hey Kevin! Fyi, those are the wrong sockets for the lug nuts you used, that's why they got stuck.. You need the spline "lug nut socket" that has the spline edges with the thinner wall.. Thought I'd share
GREAT!!!!! Now ya tell me! LOL!
It's nice to see Kiwi here 👍👍
While cutting with a grinder help yourself by using ear plugs and a full face mask. I have learned some of this myself with trips to ER to remove metal specs burned into my eyes. Safety glasses only go so far with all of those stray missiles of hot rusty metal.
Love these All Star videos
Derek…”maybe an axle alignment issue?” 🤣😂😂
I’m from Boston and I can tell you that the Boston accent definitely comes from across the pond. Like many in the European immigrants, the lettah R doesn’t really exist at the end of any word. Plus the accent wasn’t exclusive to Boston, somehow we just made it famous 😂🤷♂️ Back in the 70’s when I was a kid schools tried to correct it, but it didn’t take for most of us because many of our family or neighbors were first or second generation. Straight off the boat “😂 It was often looked down on as lower class. I’m 53 now, and people still ask me after a few sentences, “Are you from Boston?”😂
I've got a few friends from MASS, I think it's cool to be recognized for a certain geography! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video.
Kevin. Take an extension, insert it into that stuck sockets, with a T-Handle, and a piece of pipe, Try to wiggle that sockets backward/forward - up/down. Sometimes that help with stuck sockets. Otherwise, you projects always make my arse itching to cut and paint my own projects-half-done...
