I Hijacked Vice Grips' Truck!

- Derek Bieri of @ViceGripGarage is busy like I've never seen busy... He's got a passion for Chevy Trucks as well, so I grabbed his OBS with the thought of helping him out and creating the SS454 ( Improved) tribute truck he's been dreaming about. I may have figured out a way to take it off his hands while he's off doing revivals, and put my touches on it. The goals are laid out in this episode... there's gonna be surprises, wins, losses, and plenty of great episodes as the project unfolds. "ZED SLED WITH A PICKU BED" Yup, that's it! If you want to find out about great training and technical videos, visit my www/paintucation.com/ website and click on the "LEARN" tab across the top.

Derek Loves the 454SS look... we're gonna build a badass one out of this OBS!!! Thanks for watching! Not sure why, TH-cam keeps changing my thumbnail image?!?!?!
Kevin-
Go ahead and fix all the little imperfections and give 'er a kick ass paint job... That being said, If it were my truck, and I got it back lowered with different tires and wheels, I'd have to grab you by the short hairs, drag you into town, and kick 'er ass up between 'yer shoulder blades. Then I'd toss you the keys, and give it to you. IT'S A GOD DAMNED TRUCK, not some goofy go-cart. If the man wanted a low-slung-big-wheeled-thin-tired-turd, Derek can easily afford it. You almost never see him build such an abomination on his channel, unless it is a give-away. PLEASE don't ruin his personal ride!
@@dukebacher1216 yes he has, its called long-mire for his wife
I am glad I found your channel. It has been a while. Will be watching. Thanks
@@dukebacher1216 settle down pa-pa.
Please don't make a lowrider/ plow truck out of it there's way too many of them some b****** out there . Love you show, love the work that you been doing been watching you for many years !
Great to see someone do something for Derek.
We've traded a bunch of favors! He's a pretty good neighbor. :)
Derek deserves a we treat now and again. He's just a brilliant guy. and good for you doing it. What a great guy you are to buddy.
When millions of people watch his videos and he makes 6 figures from it, that is all of us doing something for him. No one ever puts anything on youtube for fun
When you were on Trucks I watched every episode. So cool to see you doing your own TH-cam channel. Looking forward to seeing this build from start to finish.
Thank you Craig!
I miss that show. 😊😊😊😊
Kevin Tits is back. Bigger then ever
The 454 SS logo airbrushed would be sweet 😋 😊
I like that idea!
Man this episode just felt old school. Like watching the hotrod shows you did back before cartube was even a thing. Just taking a fellers rig, burning the tires off, n throwing it in the shop to take it to the next level
You aren't a painter, you are an artist. Love this video.
I'm so happy to see a fella help out a fella and when two fellas wet the back neck enjoy a common interest that's when I smile - Hi from Australia
Chevy always made some good looking trucks. From the start till the end of the 90's.. after that turds..
Derek deserves a nice truck, he's one or the hardest working car people on the net. He does some stuff on his own trucks, but always in a hurry, never finishes any of them.
I'm hoping to fix that on this one!👍
I like seeing a nice guy take care of a good fella. Both you guys are class acts the way you give back to the community. Thank ya all
Thanks Bob!
Your damn straight
It pained me to watch you dig into that seemingly pretty black paint with a D/A but I know it's going to look 1000 times better after you have your way with it. Get ready to watch the master at work.
I agree, got to trust the process !!
Buddy, it hurt a little doing that with 80 grit as well! No turning back now!!! We're IN IT TO WIN IT!
There was a ripple in the painter-verse as if millions of gearheads suddenly cried out . . .
@@paintucationat least it wasn’t Derek’s 1 grit concrete block!
Love the stance and the wheels the way it is. I hate lowered vehicles and rubber band tires.
I remember back in the 90’s watching kevin and steve magnate on t.v. with their big hair, acid washed jeans, and very large mid 60’s t-bird….i just cant remember which show it was….but they were both very young!!!…..30+ years later and they are still a force to be reckoned with in the automotive media world!!!!!…..thank you for all the years of great entertainment and automotive know how kevin!!! I wish you the best on all your endeavours
HEY!!! That was DIY Network.... I was a guest on Steve's series "Classic Car Restoration" and then got my own series with DIY. We had alot of fun learning the TV ropes there, Steve is brilliant and our dinners after production were full of stories, adult beverage, and great times with him and producer Melissa Cross. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and reminding me that I've been in this game long enough to own my place. Thanks for watching! Thanks for being along side me all these years. :)
Steve is in bad shape now spent eight months in the hospital was selling all his stuff but started a go fund me if y'all any extra help a good guy out
@@michaelhayes7471 …he made a come back already…he is not 100% but he is making content again!!!
Kevin is the real deal: knowledgeable with the ability to communicate that knowledge in a way everyone can understand, passionate about what he does, and entertaining at the same time. No wonder he is able to educate us so well. He pairs very well with Derek, who does the same thing in his own inimitable fashion. Looking forward to seeing this project completed!
You're too kind sir! I'm having fun with TH-cam!
@@paintucation Lol! I just calls'em like I sees'em! You get a "like" before the video even starts!
“And this things warmed up…” (burnout clip)
BAHAHAHHAHAHA!!! I didn’t even see that coming.
I had to.....
@@paintucation I had no idea you were this funny. Haha. Been watching you as long as Derek…so like 2003. SUBSCRIBED!!
@@nathanielbarbeau4821 Thanks man! I'm kinda drunk when I film these.... :)
The two of you should do more videos together, you guys looked like you’ve known each other since 5th grade!
Agreed!!! I felt like I'd known him my whole life
I really enjoy Mr. Bieri’s efforts. His work ethic is inspiring.
This last job he went out on (The Barracuda) was brutal to the point nausea just to watch with all of the health hazards.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, rather hoping to urge him not to put himself through that kind of risk. I know he isn’t made of glass but that was rough stuff.
I know we all appreciate his efforts, I’d just like to encourage him to be more reasonable towards what he subjects himself to. That was war like to the point of biological hazard.
My brother in law and I really like to sit and binge watch his program when he comes for a visit. We both got a glazed over sick feeling when he opened the door to that car.
Take care everyone.
Looking forward to watching this one. thank you for taking us along. Older guy, looking for my "last" hot rod project, and the marketplace has gone too nuts for a guy like me to afford my dream car, so looking at another truck. One of these might be the ticket. Always enjoyed your stuff Kevin. Glad you are still in it.
I hear ya on the Marketplace inflation! It's crazy!!! Good luck, there's a lot of these trucks out there... hope you find your project!
I already know that this is going to be an awesome truck. Kevin really is a great craftsman and every creation turns out beautiful. Good luck Kevin.
A paint job that Derek can be scared of!!
Can't wait to see what Derek's truck is going to look like when you get finished. Thanks so much for doing this for him! 👍
I'm going to be watching every episode of this build. Awesome content Kevin!
Thanks!!
Be careful of ponds around Derek's property. I hear they are bad about hydro locking lowered trucks if you drive into them..
This is gold Jared you guys had fun in that one. But I still miss Johnny Rev
That's if you jeopardize your build
I thought shiny things scared Derek lol. You just knew that he had to have one beauty around. Thats a great truck , even the gauges looked sweet
Kevin that rear bumper is from a Work truck model. The 454SS bumper had the pads that extended down with the "molding" built on, the 454ss bumper also had the nice plastic pad in the center to cover the 3 holes for the hitch ball. That is basicly the cheapest rear bumper you could get on a GMT400.
Watching Kevin do the walkaround with his marker is like witnessing a master at work
Ahhhhhh this takes me back to the Truck's episodes. Certainly is a sharp rig. And i love ZedSled, such a cool project. Now with a pickup bed, lol👌🏻🤘🏻
It's funny you mention the 454SS on Trucks! It's my favorite episode. I think I still have it in TIVO format on a backup disk somewhere. I can still see you finishing the burnout contest in that red ford lightning, lining up with the camera and saying "My foot slipped... Heh heh heh!" and driving off. You and Ryan were the best!
The way Kevin winced at the bed being a different color lol. If he saw my 95 F250 it would be a heart attack. im just happy I have surface rust to deal with and that its not rotted all the way through lol.
The way he looked at the multiple colors of paint then slowly closed it and pretended like he didn't see it was classic Derek as well..
I have a 1 owner 95 1500 w/t with 100k miles that is original paint and really nice. Was kept in the garage all it’s life. Woukd love to do something like this to mine but for now I’m gonna roll around with my lil 4.3 v6 Once this second round of cancer is over and I start feeling good again I’m gonna prly get started on it.
Nothing wrong with a 4.3, they're a great and reliable engine! I'm sending you light, love, and good thoughts in your battle with cancer... Thanks for watching Daniel! we got some good stuff coming!
Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Looking forward to this build for sure Kevin. Thanks for sharing.
Kevin, I rediscovered you through VGG. You're a master of your craft. As a 1990 C1500 owner, I'm VERY excited to see what you do with Derek's rig. Can't think of a more deserving feller. (Well, besides me. My 90 is a clean southern rig, but the repaint was hideous :D ) Anyhoos.....I'm subscribing, and cannot wait to see the finished job!
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching this channel!!
I am finding it hard to believe that Derek actually owns something that nice.
He scared of shiny vehicles 😂
I have no doubt you'll make this a sharp looking truck 👌
It's already sharp! I just gotta sharpen it more! Thanks for watching!
@@paintucation It was a sharp-looking truck until some car thief took it for a joy ride and sanded a big hole in the side.
Luckily they felt bad and decided to have an artist repaint it.
2:15 As a dodge dude, of the era befor 2000, that checy is just about perfect
I dropped in a 5.3 lm7 in my SCSB OBS, 10 years ago cause of the tired 4.3 V6 that was in it. Now I am planning to refresh the paint and this is a great series to reference from the master himself !! Thank you !!
I did the same thing on my 96 RCSB c1500 about 8 years ago and I also had a crappy 4.3 V6 !! My factory paint and the body is straight on mine but I would like a fresh paint job even tho mine doesn’t need it . I went with a 5.3 L59 out of a 05 Tahoe . I bought the Tahoe at a car auction and after I parted out the Tahoe I got all my money back.
Awesome! I also have the "Paint Your Own Truck" steaming program available..... just sayin. Not trying to upsell... it's just good information and lessons. :) Either way, I'll still show what I'm doing on this channel. :)
Derek is scared of shiny. Too nice and he will never want to drive it.
That is for going to town rides.
This here is gonna be a fellas running late to church ride. 🤩
If you want something low to the ground, buy a car, leave the truck alone. Drives a fella crazy having to put springs back in these old gems.
Loved watching him do the panel gap inspection. Helps me see how i can do it on my ole car.
Normally I'll gap panels with no paint first.... this isn't that kind of paintjob, but we can still make it alot better! All that said, this truck is SUPER SOLID!!! it's a good canvas!
I love those years. Especially the stepside trucks. Good deal brother. She is going to look great when your done.
Man, the way you tore into that paint was scary, but your confidence in bringing it back is awesome. Can't wait for more!
I had to find out what as under the surface..... no point in lipsticking-the-turd... but I really do feel like I can work on top of the existing finish. My arms are already tired, maybe I can get Derek back to help for a day or so!
I remember when that truck was new. One of the car magazines called it "Tire Fryer of the Year"
I'd say this one qualifies too!!!!
Love the 454SS trucks. I'll definitely be tuning in for the next video of this one's progress
Can’t wait!
Oddly I watched a few vehicle related shows on “TV” but not a lot. I remember watching you on Trucks, and a couple times on other shows? I’m not sure. It was TH-cam that started watching hours of content and Derek was one of the first people I found and dragged me in. I’m so happy that not long ago the two of you collaborated and brought me to your channel. I truly enjoy your work and love of what you do. Even more that you want to share your knowledge.
I think a guy is going to feel a little weird around this right now once it’s so shiny. 😂 It’s so good that you are helping Derek out, he’s one of the hardest working people I’ve met, and I think he will truly appreciate your support and I’m sure this truck will be incredible.
Oh boy.. Derek is gonna have a real shiny pick em' up truck and I already love it
Can't wait for the videos on this project! Love your channel Kevin! Been a fan of yours for years. Used to watch you every Saturday
Awesome! Thank you!
US Mags makes wheels that look like the 454 SS wheels in a larger diameter. Get those in a 20”. After lowering it would look great.
Love the direction it's heading... 😎
I'm loving your collaboration choice!!!!!
Great video Kevin! Keep them coming! Nice truck...👍
I love those old 454 trucks, I remember the 454SS stepsides.
Sorry, there was never a factory 454SS stepside. Maybe you're remembering someone's clone or tribute.
@@upscaleshack your right, just the short box. I am getting old ya know. LOL
I got a good laugh when you said the interior was "dirty and smelly"! I'm not sure it isn't supposed to be like that! It's like a trademark for him at this point! Derek will get in and think "something is missing here"! Barrapoopa in mind! LOL!
what an awesome idea Kevin , Derek is away from home so much he no time for his own little projects
Actually, it was Derek's idea while we were working on the F100.... I love collaboriting with him... he's truly and inspiration on many levels. Thanks for watching!
An Epic series this way comes...
This will be a sweet ride. Can’t wait to see the finished product by the Master
I will be keeping up with this build. I have a 1992 350ss obs that i want to do for my step son, he will be turning 12 his birthday so we still have a little ways to go. I enjoy your work its a art and takes a real artist.. keep up the awesome work!
Thanks biddy! I'd argue that it's more "procedure" than art, but I appreciate the kind words! we're gonna slick this one out!
I've got the workhorse of this truck and I have actually driven the wheels off the darn thing. Steering box and shocks I've still got to do but I've got brand new everything else all the way through the front of the truck and it has always been work to drive it. she's been parked over a year because of those issues and a medical situation that has taken a big portion of that time away. but with a.lot of labor and love really goes a long way with any vehicles.
You are solid in the process and it's helpful to see you working out the issues with a vehicle and seeing them performing in steller fashion. This is going to be a fun watch. Especially knowing Derek is never gonna get rid of it after you make it scary because of the shiny paint although looking in the background of his videos there's many shiny vehicles in his collection and they've seen very little movement my guess is they are there for the kids in the future and Jessica currently. And he will eventually not work 7 days a week and get to enjoy them then. That's the hardest working guy I've seen but he is making it work for his family props for you doing his dream truck going to be looking forward to seeing this series of videos and his reaction.
Thanks for watching, I'm gonna give it my best!!!
Can't wait to see the results!!! I already know it will be amazing.
Kevin can't wait to see what magic you do for Derek's Chevy SS.
This video makes me miss my old truck. Been happy with my 2014 Silverado but sure wish I would've kept my 96 GMC extended cab instead of using it as a trade-in. I bought it new in 96 and while almost 20 years old when I let it go, it was VERY clean with 100k and zero rust (CA vehicle). It had a 2/4 in drop, 17 in polished 5-spokes, Sir Michaels steel roll-pan and a color matched fiberglass lid from Gaylords. It ran fine, although a little dated and the 5.7 Vortex was getting tired. Still think the mid 90 GMs are one of the best looking trucks ever.
Can't wait to see this build finished!
There's an OBS that I did a "walk-around" a few videos back, check it out on here... I REALLY want that truck... the bones are super-solid and I'm having a hard time not snapping it up and mothballing it... the vehicle-count over at Paintucation Garage is getting a little high... Gotta controll the "feels" and calm down..... I cant fix em all. :) but I sure do want to!
@@paintucation I remember that ... mine wouldn't need a 10th of the work as that one though (original paint in great shape, never hit, no body work, always garaged, bed used as a big trunk, etc). I think you said it was in a repo lot .... gotta feel bad for the person who can't make the strokes for something in that sad condition. (Poor dude ... lol) I think you should grab it and after you perfect Derek's truck, build its OBS brother ... you guys could be twinsees! 😂
Kevin the years have taught you well brother you know your SHIT ok STUFF my BAD glad your still spreading your wealth of knowledge too keep up these great VIDEOS as always
I may have ID'd the engine incorrectly.... got called out on the year range with Vortech 350's... OOPS! was thinnking TBI We're gonna keep up the videos and do out best for ya! Thanks for watching!
Something is weird.
You're right, after sanding into the tailgate you figured a galvanized panel not quite prepped right, which I'd agree with, but then I remembered seeing the inside of the gate and it was black over red...
It's driving my ocd nuts lol
Please let us know if you can
So, the tailgate is the straightest panel on the vehicle, which was originally RED ( obviously, by the unpainted bed and a few other clues) Jury is till out if the gate is original to the truck, but It was a relief to have at least one panel that I won't have to block flat, reprime, block again, then sand flat before paint..... it's gonna be a long road! My arms are tired already. LOL!
You popped up in my recommended videos - I couldn't agree more! Can't wait to see what you do with this Rocket Sled with a Bed!
i love derek, so happy to see someone do something for him
Love your vids glad you and vgg got together
Looking forward to this one
Your work is EXCELLENT 👍 🙋♂️
Can’t wait to see the end result 🤝👍
Kevin wearing the VGG glasses in VGG's truck is prime tv.haha
It was a great score!!!! 👍👍👍🤣
Dude, you are one of my OG favorites !
Unfortunately the LS is overdone. Even as a Ford guy, I get the LS reasoning.:: just kind of routine now .
Thanks man! I really appreciate that! Hope you subscribe and keep on watching. I'll do my best for ya!!
Cool truck! Once you are done, it will be even cooler!!
The f100 you painted for Derek turned out amazing can't wait to see this one done
Kevin, as a loyal viewer I demand you stop right now, we all know you are lying about this truck. Derek DOES NOT own any shiny vehicles!!! ROFL, love the video!!!!
Go Kevin! I’m anxious to follow and also see the end result! I know it’ll be great!
you are amazing at what you do
Derek has cars he's bought all over the country that he hasn't picked up yet lol. (at least to my understanding) good dude gets gracious favors.
Love the vids. I grew up in Columbia many moons ago, so I love seeing the familiar scenery
Uh-Oh! OUTED! LOL!. I really love Middle Tennessee... lots of side roads, beautiful scenery, and understanding cops! LOL!
Thanks for the video and the information. Always helpful hints, tips and tricks.
Great thing you’re doing with Derek’s truck! 8 can’t wait to see how it turns out
Love it! I am going to follow this build!
Thanks man!
I loved those stock wheels on those things! Way cool truck!
Love this awsome you and Derek collaborate. Reminds me of the old TRUCKS days
Thanks man!!
Yeee Yeee!
Thanks for your input and your advice! I’m currently working on my 1984 dodge prospector 250. And learning much more about how to go about it. Ps. He’s going to love the passion you put in your work.
Love watch your videos learn so much from them Thank you everything
I love the factory chrome wheels that came on the 454SS.. I had them on my 1990
Me too! Got a set out back... we'll see if a Guy wants to use them
This was an excellent video Kevin. No disrespect to the new guys but I watched a few episodes of the Trucks! replacement recently and it’s just so boring now. You are the real deal and this felt like watching the show with you back in the day. You’re the man
Thanks for your support man!! I'm doing my best on here, and having a lot of fun with it!
I am so glad you were on your own!!! thank you for making videos. This is solid entertainment!! I am a real car guy who has had a Plymouth duster since high school and still has it of course… anyways, you’re bad ass
Thanks bud!!
You'll do it up right for Derick.
Just joking but I see at the end of vid 21:00 cops had sirens on and Kevin is like I didn't steal it, great vid
Yep! ya can't make that up... I thought it was kinda funny so I didn't cover it up with music or sounds... I was thinking... OH NO....THEY FOUND ME!!!! LOL!
I’m so excited for this build freshen up the paint and a new stance. I can’t wait to see the finish and would love to see Derek’s reaction 🎉Kevin do what you do! It’s always amazing to see what you come up with
Loving this channel
that going to be nice when your done
Paint the exterior door handles gloss black too. It looks more modern. I just painted mine gloss black on black truck.
Love the channel brother been watching you since i was a kid!
I have seen you & Derick in a couple of each others videos. Great stuff as I was a big fan of your work on Trucks.
It's always a treat to get to step in to Derek's world. Thanks for watching!!
This is going to give me more ideas for a truck build I'm planning. Awesome.
I know you will make the truck look great
Gonna get er dunnn!
Can’t wait to see how it turns out!!
