She's a classically trained prodigy and has been playing piano since age 4 and for well over 3 decades, latter 2 of which she dedicated to Jazz. She's renowned for her musicality, deep harmonic understanding, live performances full of energy with fluent improvisations, and delicate touch on the keys. Together with her talent and charming character she continues to proliferate Jazz and attract many fans from all over the world. You can learn more about Riyoko and sample more of her music from playlists on my channel home. Riyoko doesn't really make short clips of her music and a lot of her music and performances are missing from her own channel due to Japanese copyright laws, where venues own all the rights to recordings on their premises. Because of that Riyoko can't freely share a lot of her music with us. But an artist like this should be shared with the world, so I'm making it rain on my channels.
So many beautiful layers to her improvisation of this amazing song. She has no boundaries and does not need any. Whatever she plays is a masterpiece. ❤❤❤❤
I really like Riyoko's takes on classical works. To me, this one sounds how the original should have been from a rhythmic standpoint. Riyoko has sight-read improvised live and extended another Debussy's work once before - 'The Girl with the Flaxen Hair' th-cam.com/video/2xpIGw_mZr8/w-d-xo.html One thing I will never understand is that someone has actually unsubscribed via this upload of 'Clair de Lune'. 😅 I don't get it, other uploads earlier, and now 'Splasher', 'Long Distance', 'Take Five' were okay but this one just pushed them over the edge.
@@PianoImprovVlogger Yup! Oh in that link, the original Debussy prelude is 0:00~2:00 the rest is Riyoko's unprepared improvisation. After she played it, she told the audience in that show that she will never be able to repeat what she just played again. That's why she never voluntarily plays some songs again after playing them once. She feels that she was in the right emotional state to play it right then when she played it. Another time, she believes won't be able to do good by it.
@@LogioTek Well I know exactly what she means. I never play anything the same when I play a real song , can never remember anything I play as an improv. It’s always different!! But I can’t imagine trying to get her audience to understand that !!!
