      Update: I got pretty good deals on almost all parts for the Precision M3800.
      +16GB DDR3L-1600 SK Hynix for £35 (usually goes for 45 - 60)
      +Back cover for £9.95 (most went for 20 or more)
      +Brand new OEM Dell Charger for £25 (Usually sells for £39.99)
      Now I'm looking for deals on a 512GB mSATA SSD and a new battery.
      The cheapest battery I found goes for £22.50 is not OEM but is brand new however I'd have to drive 50 miles with my father as I can't drive yet to pick it up as its collection only.
      The cheapest brand new 91WH dell one is like £99 and that's too much..

    • @RedPMD
      @RedPMD 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey everyone! Good news! The laptop is fully functional and now clean! It has a tiny screen pressure mark but overall its in great condition and i am typing this comment from it right now! Its thin and can run Rocket League at 1080p60 fps VSYNC ON (vsync is a must as its much smoother) it has 16GB of RAM in it now and I have repasted the CPU and GPU with Cooler Master E1 thermal paste. Its really good and for £312.81 it was a steal as it is worth £545 on ebay and definitely more elsewhere. It is one amazing piece of hardware.

    • @julianzhou9394
      @julianzhou9394 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Heat dissipation on laptop graphics cards isn't as pronounced as that on a desktop equivalent. This is especially true for graphics memory. You're more likely to run into GPU overheating issues before being thermally restricted by a memory module overheating. Just the heatsink mount is sufficient for the use case scenario. Although some thermopads on the module would have increased heat transfer efficiency, it is definitely not necessary.

    Asus laptops like this USED to only support 16GB of RAM, but them rumor has it (i read this on a Coreboot reddit thread) some dude online found out that with a few tweaks to the embedded controller firmware 16GB sticks can be used instead of just 8 (therefore making it 2x16 or 32). ASUS and a few other companies caught wind of this and was basically like "oh shit that's cool" and released firmware updates for all their older laptops to enable this. ASUS rocks for still supporting their older stuff like that if its true.

    Awesome work 🥰👍🎉 I’ve been “re-rewatching” some of your back catalogue as I love the work you do 🥰🥳! Btw when I originally purchased this laptop after launch I received a “RECALL” on it by shop I purchased it from due to a potential capacitor fault causing fire ….. I wonder if your friend still uses this laptop?

    Four SODIMM slots on a notebook... I don't think I've seen that before. You could've upgraded the CPU as well, but a Core i7 2670QM is almost the best this notebook will support. You could go up to a Core i7 2860QM for a bit more CPU and iGPU power, but those are actually quite expensive and not that easy to get a hold of. Generally a SSD makes almost any notebook usable again, even if the rest is limited. A Core i5 or i7 from the 2nd Core i generation (Sandy Bridge and above) will still provide more than enough processing power for a notebook you're not planning on pushing too hard. i3 CPUs are OK, but you do run into bottlenecks much faster.

    Hi Andrew, I really like your work. I do thinks like this alot, but your cleaning process is way better than mine. 😅
    This week I became my old Hardware back from a friend of mine and restored it. The only downside is the case. He sprayed it and it looks horrible for now. Currently I'm working on an HP G7. It was in bad conditions and had a water damage. I cleaned everything but it needs some seconds to initialise the video output. I've upgraded the CPU to an I7 2620m and the RAM to 16GB. I've changed the HDD to an SSD and it works great for slight gaming with the HD6470 1GB. I'll manage to overclock the GPU so that it can run faster in games.

      Thank you bro :D btw take more time and you will clean it great also, even better, why not. About the sprayed case, you can use water sand paper 1000 grid to remove the painting, but than you will need to apply new paint

    Ha!, I still have the same model but the 6Gb ram version. My wife mostly uses it to watch movies but its great if you want to play not very demanding games, most games from 2010 to 2015 will play OK. I think after seen this I think I will upgrade the hard drive and the ram and use it to play LoL and WoW Classic at work.

    I know this is an old vlog but perhaps vlogger still remembers this computer and this vlog...i did every step as recommended and replaced dc jack and board and new charging unit..initially there was smoke coming out of dc jack when i plugged it in and then ofcourse it went dead. Anyway i was really expecting it to work..the battery light is on but it wont power on. Could you suggest other issues perhaps? Also at this point im more worried of salvaging contents of my internal drive, how do i do this?

    what is the third square covered by the cooler? why isn't there any thermal paste on it?

    • @vladimirazirov1815
      @vladimirazirov1815 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We apply thermal paste to the processor crystal and the graphics card crystal, and the third crystal is the chipset. For the chipset you need to use a thermal pad, for example this one, Laird T-Flex 760
      15mm*15mm* 1.5mm
      Thermal conductivity:: 5W/mk
      Color:: Gray

    Hello! My mother in law have this piece of beauty and I upgrathe the RAM and disk to SSD and works veryt smooth.
    But now, it's having an issue with the keyboard because the connector has "erased" the contacts in the flat cable. How can I restore/repair this contacts? In some places I've seen the "conectivity ink", this works?
    Tnx a lot!
