- Hi everyone, thank you for 28:49 of your time. In this video I restored, upgraded and Mod the ASUS Republic Of Gamers G73SW. This laptop were for parts only, but fortunately some major parts where still functional. The GPU I got it from Aliexpress, it cost me about 38 euros.
Btw the motherboard is cheap also, available on Aliexpress for about $30-$40 ( in case if you need ). The motherboard is available with 2D and 3D connector, the motherboard in this video is with 2D. The 3D connector is placed above the 2D. No other difference.
This model is predicted to be used with 16GB of RAM but I place 32 coz to see the performances.
Games in this video: Battlefield 3 Premium, Crysis 2 and GTA 5

He forgot to say " While cleaning these types of screen, you should be aware that the liquid doesn't damage ur display ";)
Yeah😂
yeahhh...🤣🤣
If the screen is glossy you can put liquid in it as long as it doesn't go inside trough the bezels... only the matte layers get ruined by liquid, but I actually used liquid to remove the crap matte layer of my laptop and the screen looks miles better in terms of visual quality.
LoL
And I thought, that now he knows that all of his audience has learnt WHILE CLEANING THESE TYPES OF SCREEN,U SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL
I love the cosmetic changes that you add to your restorations. Your creative personal touches really makes these restorations special.
I have to say. This is the best laptop design ever. Removable GPYU, removable CPU?! Full keyboard layout? I WANT ONE
Many of the older laptops are very flexible and upgradable about upgrades, new ones not really :( I really miss when all was upgradable
no kidding -_- I had a newer lenovo y700 gaming laptop before and I was bummed about only upgradable ram and drives. I think all laptop creators should make all laptop upgradable again but all the exact same socket for gpu's. plug n play type of stuff.
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew yeah, I miss those days also.
@@harveybrooks1460 well i guess they make it like that so the company will have more profit, when you want to upgrade your CPU or GPU you need to buy a new laptop.
Those days are still around you just have to do your research is all. A big hint that the cpu and gpu can be replaced is the laptop thinkness
I love how he always cleans it so well and really detailed. Now that's what I call restoration.
This is one of the most exciting ones because it's a old gaming laptop. Good job! :)
Watching this on the same machine, but with HD5870 GPU.
yeah they even have cemos battery
sleeper laptop 😳🥶😫

We live in a world where consumer electronics is tossed in favour of the new shiny one every year around Black Friday and Christmas, spurred on by TH-camrs who always talk about the shiny new thing when one comes out.
Content like yours where you not only reuse but actually repair devices considered lost causes and make them usable again is damn refreshing.
This is my favorite video so far! You’re not only an excellent technician but also a really creative artist 👍🏼☺️ keep going please!
Thank you bro :D

His pronunciation is kinda horrible in some cases
I bought a G73 back in 2010, my first laptop and it still runs great! I love these laptops.
A little bit of a tip Andrew, when it comes to the fans and hinges, avoid brushing towards the moving parts as they are lubricated and if you get dust in there it could affect some of the movement. Something I learned when working on a few repairs. Also, IPA can also be used on the board if there's any liquid damage, it can help really easy some times, even just for cleaning dirt. Just wanna make sure to tell in case but if you do, don't get IPA in the fans or hinges as it ruins the lubrication. Anyways nice video as always, showing people that this is really fun and easy. :)
te amo ... mami
It's So satisfyin to see something being repaired by him, and the way he said "Laptop" too
This was my first gaming laptop.. purchased shortly after released. Absolutely loved it! Gamed all through my college years and took this behemoth to classes 😅
After watching this video i am loving my ROG Strix Laptop even more
ROG Strix are very beautiful laptops and very powerful
Oh, me too!
Very handy laptop, and has decent battery life for a mid range gaming laptop!
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew yea especially the SCAR 15/17
One of the dislikes is for the person who tossed this laptop.
Hahahaha, sure !!!!! :)
Not really, probably the owner has buy a new laptop
This was the first gaming laptop I owned, got mine in 2011. Ever since getting this one, I have only been gaming on gaming laptops. I game in the bedroom, the home office, the kitchen, the living room, even in the backyard in the summer. I cannot imagine myself going to the same room, the same desk every time to game as I am not a streamer. Gaming laptops are awesome and this restoration was very well done. Thank you.

When is saw the notification i literally went : YESS YESS NEW VIDOE
For some reason i really like these restore/upgrade/modification videos such as yours.
Keep the amazing videos comin' bro!
It is so satisfying for me to watch restoration, repair and nodding this kind of laptops because these videos remind me of the time when laptops where upgradable, not like now when pretty much all the components are soldered to the mb and probably, with the arm Macs, the ram, cpu and gpu coming all in one chip.
Bruh... Your videos are really interesting... Even a non-techy person would love your videos. Keep up the good work Andrew.
This was such a satisfying video to watch. This has quickly become one of my favorite tech channels. Thank you for putting these videos together! It's inspiring me to perhaps get an old laptop and mod it myself!
I love this type of restoration, I learn a lot, greetings from Panama
I love the attention to detail with which you cleaned ALL the components. The expertise and precision is also awesome! The Asus G73 was my first and really fast gaming laptop back then! I was the king at LAN parties with that thing! It makes me feel nostalgic! Sub for sure!
I also have a hobby of restoring things, your videos are inspiring!
I have an old G75VW and I'm inspired to fix those little problems I live with. Great job!
That back white light to different colours is genius ❤️❤️❤️
I really admire the way you work. Step by step and very clean in every step. A fan from the Philippines! Keep on restoring friend.

*Laptop that has been sitting into hell after death*
Cat and Andrew: Nothing too serious
😂😂
AWESOME! I used this laptop as my video editing workstation and gaming from 2011 to 2016 so this is very nostalgic. I remember the nightmare of upgrading the ram, having to get at the inaccessible dimms... I also cracked the screen and had to go through that whole disassembly. Even had an adapter to swap the DVD rom for an extra SSD. For better of for worse, They don't make 'em like this anymore. Great Job!
Same. I had G750JZ and it cost me almost same price in repairs what I had payed for it (1500€). I broke keyboard ribbon, my power socket died and had to replace it, replaced the hdd/ssd ribbons, replaced optical drive for hdd bay, replaced the power plug again, replaced the motherboard, replaced the gpu, replaced whole cooling copper section, replaced the fans, still have 2 at home haha, replace whole keyboard chassy (since the ribbon cable ripped I had no choice but to buy whole chassy as it was a single unit), replaced the battery.
It served me well and gave me many insights in how laptops are build and work. It was also one of the last laptops to actually have dedicated GPUs like 880m 980m that were made for laptops and not down binned desktop variants like we have today max q variants and so on.
@@JustOneGuyyo wtf you did not let it die lol
@@MozharGamer because it was all i had. I also broke most of the things that i broke. Also because i was stupid haua
I have to admit Andrew! Those hands do real magic, when it comes to fixing the tech! Great video.

Bro I don't know how you didn't stress out when you were taking the screen apart. Awesome to see that some people still appreciate old technology.

I love how much time & effort you spent to restore an old dying laptop... Even gave it a new life with mods & upgrades... Kudos & keep at it... Restoration means less E-waste... & most of the devices out there are still capable to serve, just need the special touch & care... Thanks you... PS - New laptop should bring back the removable CPU/GPU... Imagine laptop gamers can upgrade the portable rig like a desktop... That is the best possible direction the mobile side should lean towards... Cheers! 🍻💯
Excelente vídeo! Gosto de ver como você dá vida a equipamentos já esquecidos do público em geral, e mostra que eles ainda podem ser confiáveis.
Re-Watching another great episode by Andrew. Can’t get enough of these restoration videos!

I loved this laptop. I had this one and the G51JX-A2 with a core i7 720QM & GTX 360M. Held on to it until 2013, then built a 3770K workstation and gave the laptop to my dad.
Such a great laptop!
In love with this ROG ❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍

You did an excellent job on cleaning/servicing the laptop. I do that a lot with my computers and my clients as well.
I was "I need something, something than inspire my soul" and then I found these video.
This is the best video I have ever seen from Andrew modding laptops.....this laptop gives so mouch options for upgrades....really cool mate
love this guy's detailed and dedicated works!
I love how you show what can be done with old devices, making them functional and modern looking! :)
Huh...an AZERTY keyboard. Don't usually see that kind this day, in my place that is.
Me too man
when I was in the service, this was my deployment laptop, still have it, its solid even inhaling sand and being out in the heat, it served me well
That was a great upgrade and restoration video :) Loved how you got it from pretty much useless to a high spec gaming machine :)
Not many laptops out there with four RAM slots, upgradable CPU and upgradable GPU :)
P.S. I knew why you were going for the i7-2670QM - so you could have 32GB RAM - and that's what I'd have done also :).
Can you add the RAM info for purchase. I'm having a hard time finding it.
I just found your channel by a YT recommendation and it's awesome! Keep it up man!

Restored the very same one a year ago. It belongs to my wife, and it sounded like the jet engine even on idle, before i've took it apart. Re-applied all the thermal paste (the one one that was on the CPU and the GPU looked like it was a layer of gypsum, and not the thermal paste), bought a new aftermarket battery and installed the Win. 10 on it. Works like a charm now.

Loved watching this because it brought back memories. My first laptop I owned was the ASUS ROG G73JW, one of the models in the same line. Great job with the video, and for getting an old machine like this some life again.
wow i just realised that the keyboard isn’t the usual QWERTY but it’s an AZERTY.
I bought this laptop back in 2010. Seeing it restored was so heartwarming to watch.
I feel blessed watching this video ngl😌
The backlight with different key colors got you a new subscriber! I’ve never seen that before, just only one color from someone else. This is a great restoration. I’m impressed
