What things do you do for reassurance?

    • @stefanmolnapor910

I do not know/ think that I seek reassurance, i will look out for it. I am independent and not really close with anyone. I think i give assurance to myself. I do check switches, outlets, etc for reassurance my house will not burn down.

Me too! Since 3 years and a year back I came across Nate! I kept doing ERP (with many ups and downs) but finally after 11 months of treatment it has finally gone! Infact let me phrase it better: After 11 months of ERP, I have become a master so now if an intrusive thought pops - up, I just do ERP and it works!!!! Every single time. Bless Nate

But i have been fighting ocd for 4 years now so it was kinda long battle and I wanted to give it up sometimes too. But just do small littlle imlrovements in your head everyday and you will get there propably one day.

The way to deal with OCD through therapy also depends on the person who has OCD. For some people CBT doesn't work as it only deals with the symptoms or behaviours. Even if the symptoms regarding one thing stop, they come back about something else when past trauma is triggered!

Bro just from the thumbnail I had to stop in and say thank you! I managed to get a lot of help from john glanville's videos, but yours are also incredibly spot on and helpful! I have to watch them more later! Thank you sir! Also your shorts are really helpful to just see on my phone quickly!

Needed this, thank you Nathan! I’m trying to separate my ocd brain from my healthy brain and listen to the healthy one! Because no matter how many times you repeat the ritual the ocd brain DOES NOT UNDERSTAND LOGIC AND WILL NEVER BE HAPPY! 😵‍💫

Hi, I've never commented around here, but i've watched your videos for quite sometime and they absolutely helped me going from a terrible OCD that was basically 24/7 live in my brain to something way more manageable. Thank you, really.
I have an unrelated question. Is "derealization" (the word may be too strong for it) a symptom of OCD? When I developed OCD symptoms (i've never been diagnosed officially, but everything i've seen in your channel supports the fact that i have it, given that previously in my life i had never spent 2 or 3 hours doing counting rituals, or worrying whether a thought I had in my mind would affect something in reality, or having intrusive thoughts at all...), I also developed this sense of never being present at my surroundings, as if there's a veil between reality and me. Like I said, derealization is a too strong word for it, given that it seems like a rather serious symptom, but I don't know how else to call it: it's as if reality has a mild dreamlike feeling, as if i'm never fully present in anything, be it at work, or just at home watching a movie or talking to my friends. I was never this absent minded in my life.
I guess I should go to a therapist already - but it just seems daunting having to deal with a lot of emotional baggage in the very treatment of the emotional baggages.

I feel like the unhelpful kind of reassurance (asking for confirmation or answers from others who have no idea and can't REALLY reassure you) is like doing the rituals, as they too are not helpful since they're not related to our core fear(s).
All of it is self soothing and attempts to seek comfort, but it ends up that the seeking and soothing actually perpetuate the fear.

I’m curious, do you have any advice for dealing with OCD while having Autism? I suspect I might have both (already diagnosed with the former, currently being evaluated for the later). Anytime I look it up, I only get results comparing the two rather than help on dealing with them both.
It’s difficult because I keep becoming overwhelmed with all the thoughts which makes it easy for me to lash out if I’m not careful. I understand it’s an oddly specific subject so if you don’t have anything that’s totally okay. Your advice is already infinitely helpful!

This gets difficult with relationship ocd. Needing assurance that your person likes you while they have just told you that they want to end things feeds that monster for life.

this isn't related to the video but i have misophonia, and have been seemingly having a lot of symmetry OCD triggers a lot recently, do you think there is a connection between the two?

    • @Horozakos
      @Horozakos 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I mean what you are saing actually could make sense like of you have things that trigger you some of them could theoretically grow into ocd.

I don't feel like myself for a while when I overcome a compulsion. I feel like a different person. Maybe there's something wrong with the brain's circuitry that builds a stable sense of self in OCD.
I am just writing this post to break this compulsion of not engaging in an activity that makes a permanent imprint on the internet somewhere. I am afraid of making a decision that has potential to cause uncontrollable chaos in the internet and it will stay forever (at least for a long time). The internet is scary but absolutely necessary and unavoidable nowadays. So I must get over this compulsion.

I have it too , my advice don’t ask for reassurance. Try to live your life the way you want. I know it’s not what you want to hear , it’s not even something I want to say. But it’s very confusing and no amount of reassurance will ever bring you close to an answer
