    I really love The Incredible Hulk movie. And I have actually binge read the main line of Hulk comics back when I was in college. Starting far back from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's six books to right at the end of Immortal Hulk. So I'm a bit sad that Hulk has only had two major solo films, which leaves his extensive mythology, cast and rogues having not gotten the spotlight they deserve. So I have a deep appreciation for the 2003 and 2008 movies (as well as the animated features).

      That's so cool man! what's your favorite hulk run? For me I think it's the 1970s stuff with sal buscema John Byrne's small run and the immortal hulk!

    • @Hulkzilla0
      @Hulkzilla0 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarvelKnight-tw9hb Bill Mantlo's #312 and Peter David's #377 are my favorite issues. For runs, I'd say Roger Stern, Steve Englehart, Bill Mantlo, Peter David, Paul Jenkins, Bruce Jones, Greg Pak on both the Planet Hulk/World War Hulk and The Incredible Hulks run, Jeff Parker on Red Hulk, and Al Ewing's Immortal Hulk.

    I’ve been reading a lot of silver and bronze age Hulk comics this year. The classic stuff is consistently entertaining. Even when they’re not great, they’re always a hoot. Very underrated comics.

    12:12 Wow that comic drawing looks just like Edward Norton, and in my opinion, this confirms my case that Norton was the perfect candidate for the Bruce Banner/Hulk role

    While I don't mind the changes to Hulk's origin in the MCU, I feel the lack of the Gamma bomb and Rick Jones makes it inferior to the comics. Having the Hulk being born by a Gamma Bomb symbolizes the character as this force of nature, this powerfull being that no one can control, not even his creator Bruce Banner.
    As for Rick Jones, not only he gives the Hulk another friend to help him, besides Betty, but the fact Banner suffered his accident trying to save the kid. shows alot of Bruce character, how he was always this selfless guy, making his fate, to be force to live with this monster inside him, even more tragic. He became the Hulk not because he was mad scientist and reckless tested the experiment on himself, but rather because he tried to the right thing and help a innocent.

    • @PanelstoPixels
      @PanelstoPixels  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah, I definitely agree. I had a whole section about this in the video but I didn't want to put too much of my own fan nitpicks into it. I appreciate the callback to the 70s show but the gamma bomb, the nuclear paranoia, and the fact that Bruce creates this weapon of death but is redeemed by saving Rick, are all essential parts of the Hulk mythos for me. Even the gamma explosion itself is a big part of Hulk iconography, something the 2003 movie got right by using it as a visual motif.

      Rick Jones name actually shows up in the opening credits of the 2008 film as an associate of Robert's, but yes that's not enough. I Actually kind of wish they would have used Rick in the film too and based him off how he was in the Marvel Adventures book as a lab assistant. The opening credits could have involved him like tripping over something and increasing the gamma ray dosage, which changes Robert into the Hulk, and actually have him having a small chit chat with Robert after he leaves the hospital and going along with him. That way, they could have still been working together and Rick trying to repay his debt

    Always love your Hulk content Josh. Your enthusiasm for the jolly green giant always comes through.
    For me, Peter David's Hulk was the first Marvel character I got introduced outside of Spider-Man, so he will always have a special place in my superhero pantheon.

    This was a fantastic video! This perfectly illustrates why I have always loved this movie from the very beginning. I am an ardent supporter of The Incredible Hulk, because, as a massive lifelong Hulk fan myself, it really is a love-letter to the character and his mythos.
    I also love the fact this film takes itself and its subject matter seriously. Something the MCU has continued to botch since The Avengers in 2012.

    😂 the Bruce Jones Comics are like 70% the primary inspiration for the 2008 film. I just wish the ending wasn't deliberately ambiguous and actually had Robert not only gain full control over Hulk, but have access to his strength while still human like in those books.
    P.S.: Abominable is by far the worst story in the Bruce Jones Hulk run because of how a retcons Emil into pretty much a 24/7 abusive husband and Nadia into a small time restaurant owner instead of a big actor. It's only because of that story that I'm actually glad Peter David retconned Bruce's whole run into some mind screw by Nightmare

    Great video! I think the Hulk as bomb dropped from a plane was done in Azzarello’s Banner mini-series published just before the Ultimates series. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if that idea comes even earlier. I almost think P3ter D@vid used it in a Hulk novel I read back in the 90s.

    There’s a lot to like about the 2008 film and Leterier’s attention to comic details. I like a lot of the comics he drew from. However, for all that it gets right, it also highlights Leterier’s weakness as a director: actors. He’s an action guy and while most of the set pieces shine, the character-building moments often fall flat for me. Betty and Bruce’s intimacy scene in the motel is unintentionally cringey, for example. I would love to somehow mash up the best parts of the 2003 & 2008 films
