I love all the beautiful colors of Sweet William, brings back wonderful memories of my Nana who always planted them. I bought Harlow Carr bare root this year but it died. We had 2 heat waves so far this year which is unheard of at this time of year and our temp was one of the highest in the world, which is just insane. I just dont know what to think anymore about our weather just keep plugging along and hope everything survives.
Thanks Jane. What a shame about your Harlow Carr - di you contact your supplier? They should replace it... Yes, the weather is so unpredictable these days. we're about to have a mini heatwave here - it finally feels like summer but unfortunately it's now hasn't rained for days and so we have to water the garden!😁
I watched your video last year and did summer sowing of sweet william and hesperis and planted them out last fall. Am enjoying them this summer in western Canada--thank-you!
3.02 I love scarlet dianthus. I wish I had some in my garden. I always love red flowers and clothes too. I have bought different fabrics ,silk red curtains and other fabrics which I turned into tops. I do have dark skin and hair so I guess I look very greek in bright colours although some people called me French and wven Italian when I was living in Corfu.
Red is wonderfully bright but I find it hard to place in my garden which tends to have softer tones at the moment. I do love red dahlias and red in the autumn leaves is spectacular. 😁🌹
Thanks Penelope. It was such a stupid mistake - I knew it was a windy day 🤣 But I just had to laugh because I had vermiculite (and probably seeds) all over my face and in my hair! 🤣🤣
I love sweet williams flowers. Today i collected some seeds from botanic garden. I don't know what variety they're because it was not labeled. They are allready dry all and couldn't see any flowers there but i know them after the seeds pockets. Tomorrow i will seed them and i guess i'll find out next year witch beauties i got home.
Lidl are selling large hydrangers for £8.99 - I may have dragged a couple to the car. Been planting creeping red thyme on our higdldy pigdldy path and erigeron karvinskianus profession around the doorstep and in our rock wall just got some erigeron seabreaze to plant in a steep cleared hedge wall. I love this channel ❤️ so feel good.
i love sweet williams they have been wonderful in the garden this year I love your videos and i have grown many of the seeds you have shown us including clarkia they are growing really well The garden is looking lovely maybe a tour
I planted sweet William over 15 years in another home garden and tried this during winter sowing but I have never seen the gorgeous Newport Pink!!!! I have a problem with red in my garden also.
@@cottoverdi LOUD is right! 😂 I just found another red lily that I planted for breast cancer. Didn't know it would be red! Luckily, I have a friend that has BC and give them to her. She ❤ red also. BTW, I learn so much from you!!!
Love Sweet William. I have planted up nearly a whole bed with them earlier this year, on my allotment. I have been cutting them for about 6 weeks now- gorgeous, and it is great as a cut flower bringing perfume to the house and they last ages. I don't think I will sow any his year- I will wait to see how this bed fayres over Winter. I wonder if taht will be something I regret doing ,next year, when i have no beautiful flowers to cut. Thanks form a great video. Happy gardening 🙂
Hi Jane, thank you. Yes, I've sown Verbena before - it's very easy and once you have it in your garden, you will have it forever because it self-seeds so readily. I love it as a plant and flower, but especially because I no longer have to worry about it since they pop up everywhere and I just move the seedlings to where I want them! 😁
Hi Annette I live in very warm Texas in the U.S. do you know if I can wait until Sept after the worst heat passes because Dianthus, after all, is a cool season plant and I am looking for something like 30 to 45 days of triple digits😎😰😱. Nvm I stayed on long enough to hear your answer to that question😅😘
Yes you can!Hi, yes, absolutely, you can definitely wait. Our autumns can be damp and wet so I like to sow mine while there is a chance of some warmth in the summer but they can also be sown Sept/Oct time and will overwinter well.
Hi Annette, how are you? I have a big pink dianthus in a nice terracota pot on my balcony but with 40C at 6pm every day I am surprised it has survived. I am constantly with the hose pipe on and there is canopy on the balcony.
@cottoverdi It is pretty horrific. The air is a lot cooler if you sit on the beach. I think it is the outside walls of the houses (Mine are stone walls) which keep the heat. I don't know how tourists can bare it. We do drink a lot of cold water.
I love sweet Williams and an slowly collecting lots of different colours. Can you say where you got you got your seeds from please? I can't see them in your recommendations.
Great video! I have some sweet william with their second true leaf on. How long do you find it takes from germination to transplant stage for sweet william?
Hi, I think a greenhouse is going to be much too hot over the next few months - they would be better outside, maybe against a house wall for protection from the worst of the wind and rain.
Sorry for your misfortune. I hope you didn't lose any seeds or at least too many to notice. I share your pain, as I have dropped a newly sowed tray of all different seeds and a few pots and things already this season. I'm sure you'll still get something. Thanks for another video. X
Thanks Jimmy. I just had to laugh when the gust of wind took me by surprise - there was vermiculite ALL OVER me and in my hair!!! I really do hope there are some seeds left in the tray 🤣
@@cottoverdi Haha.I was sowing a packet of Alpine Strawberries many years ago in my greenhouse, and I clumsily dropped the whole lot on the compost dusty floor. I swept the floor and tried to sow the pile of floor dirt, hopefully with at least some of the seeds in it. I got about 3 plants, but that's better than nothing eh! One thing is for sure Annette, gardening certainly brings you down to earth...quite literally! X
Обожаю гвоздики за их аромат и разнообразную окраску. Очень понравились красные тёмные и двухцветные, потрясающе выглядят!
Да, они так вкусно пахнут!
@@cottoverdi But the Sweet Williams are Carnations too?

@cottoverdi I understand.
Here it was 39C today. We were all day on the beach. I had to put icecubes on my head and cheeks tonight.
Your garden is looking absolutely gorgeous. I love the opening view with the dovecote. I notice you are nearly at 10000 subscribers too. Woo hoo! 🎉
Thanks so much Carol.
Yes, almost at 10000 - it's pretty wild but I'm so happy that people are able to enjoy our garden too. 😁
I'm in the bath.... My husband just caught me singing along to your intro... It's so happy! 😂
🤣🤣🤣 You're not alone - I receive many comments about my 'theme tune'!
Beautiful looking garden and sweet willams, they are the bees knees. Hope you get lots of seedlings for your garden.
Thanks Nicholas. I'm so excited to see the varieties I've never grown before. Must remember to water them! 🤣
Your garden is so pretty!!
Thank you. I'm learning to appreciate it all despite all the weeds!
Thank you Annette. You did make me laugh when you said we will see in two weeks time after the wind had taken the Vermiculite and possibly seeds 😂

Hi Judy, I've never timed it and they are pretty hardy so you can plant them out quite quickly if space is an issue 🌱😊
