Serenaded by Australian Magpies

- Over a decade ago, Danielle's journey as the Magpie Whisperer began when she first discovered her fascination for these intelligent birds. From that point on, she dedicated herself to the study and care of magpies, developing a deep bond and understanding of their behaviors and personalities.
She enjoys observing their interactions with each other and with their environment, from the way they enjoy playing, to the intricate vocalizations they use to communicate with one another. Over the years, her passion for magpies has only grown stronger, and she has made it her mission to raise awareness about these birds and to showcase their fun and lovable side through various means.
In addition to raising awareness, Danielle's fascination with magpies also motivated her to become a licensed wildlife carer. She was determined to repay these birds for all the countless ways they had helped her. Through her work, she has provided medical attention and rehabilitation to numerous injured or orphaned magpies, with the goal of helping them return to their natural habitat. In some cases, she has even taken in young magpies and raised them by hand, giving them a chance to thrive and survive in the wild.
Battling from severe anxiety and depression, over a decade ago, Danielle found a surprising ally in the form of magpies. Through the darkest of days, these intelligent birds stand by her, providing comfort and companionship when she needs it the most. This experience serves as a testament to the special connection between humans and animals, highlighting the therapeutic effects of nature on mental health.
"When experiencing moments of emotional distress, I find comfort in the company of Australian Magpies. Their resounding melodies provide an instant boost to my mood and a sense of calm to my mind. To me, magpies are not just birds, but rather cherished companions who are essential to my sense of well-being. Their presence has brought a sense of purpose and belonging that is exceptional, and I cannot imagine the direction my life would have taken without them."
Danielle finds solace in the company of birds, and often prefers their company to that of people. This preference stems from the fact that animals, unlike people, do not judge or criticize. Danielle has expressed that being around people can cause feelings of anxiety or discomfort, which she does not experience in the presence of animals. For her, the presence of animals provides a sense of peace and calm that is difficult to replicate in human interactions. In this sense, birds have become not only a source of joy and entertainment but also a source of emotional support for Danielle.

Rusty gate noises 😂
The dissonance between them is so surreal and nearly terrifying. It’s as if they’re singing in reverse.
I was about to say just that!
Omg your right
Or do they
@@W0ElSME 😂 I think they actually do.
This is basically the first sound you hear in the morning where I am. Sometimes it'll also be a cockatoo
When I first moved to Oz , I thought these bird sounds were weird. I spent 30 odd years living there. Now that I'm in Europe, I miss them so much. Such intelligent, agile and wonderful birds.
Hey bud, I need my lawn mowed stat. Get your wizard ass back to Oz and mow my lawn. You have 48 hours to comply. If the job is still undone I'm sending a tribe of magpies after you.
They're definitely weirdos, like most Australian wildlife, but that's a lot of their charm. Until they decide to weaponise themselves, of course.
@@dynamaticdaniel7308Our daughter and her family moved to Australia last September. Whenever we FaceTime, all we hear in the background are the magpies. They have one that visits daily for titbits. , When they arrived they were victims of ‘swooping’ 😂 I’d never heard of such a thing.
There are Magpies everywhere. Perhaps not this exact species but here in UK they visit us daily for food and a conversation... Look for them!
@@dynamaticdaniel7308… Why do you call a beautiful black intelligent bird with a voice and friendly personality weird????… think your the one with the problem… weird is an understatement… off you go back to your cave
These guys make the best pets ever, you don't even need a cage. My grandmother finds one that's fallen out the nest every so often and she'll raise it up then let it go. They almost all come back and treat her house like home. They're all so funny and playful too, kinda like cats.
koolllllll😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Their young don't stay in their nests for long. Folks often think they've fallen out when they leave on purpose to forage. Their parents still help feed em for a while after the nest.
@@pygmypieman9988 I don't think my grandma could steal a bird from its parents. She already has plenty of birds she breeds and raising a baby magpie is a real pain. The ones I see in the wild keep a pretty close eye on their babies, so I have to assume these ones were all alone.
@@KamikazeCommie501 They'll often be left alone while their parents forage. People thinking that they've fallen out of their nest and/or have been abandoned is a frequent problem.
@@pygmypieman9988Yeah I see. Hers are all from the area she lives in the country though and they all know her well. They come and take the babies back off her once they're ready to go and they all stay in the area as a happy family. She hasn't done it more than a couple of times.
I agree though, people should be wary they're not stealing a bird who's being raised fine by parents. I'd guess my grandmother's are likely half-domesticated by now. She's lived there forever and they've always been there too in the trees. She recognizes individuals and names them and loves to watch them in the trees around her house. She lives on a cliff overlooking the Murray with giant gumtrees around and her view is right into the branches, it's amazing. Thanks for reading my nanna's biography lol

I didn’t realise how weird Australia magpies sound to people, i can hear them right now, such a natural thing
The most beautiful sound to wake up to here in the country!
It’s cute how they stop, look around, then start up again...it’s like they don’t know where that noise is coming from either....maybe they think “it’s got to be the other bird” and carry on. so cute.
I’m pretty sure they know they are making noise cause you know, they have to physically move muscles to do it
The magpies that visit our house for food do this to let their rellies know that breakfast is served (the others then turn up) and that other birds should just stay away (doesn’t work - kookaburras, ‘crows’ and butcher birds all come after the magpies have carolled)
I think birds always do some notes then stop
They’re likely listening for responses from any other magpies in the area. When they hear none, they continue.
“No no…one of us is flat. Let’s try again-“
An early settler in Australia wrote home describing the magpies' song as"Angels gargling liquid gold". Still an apt description.

Was fortunate to visit Australia a few times, and would hear them in the morning. Nice way to wake up
Just read about the Australian Magpie in the New York Times. These birds helped each other remove tracking devices placed on them by researchers. It was a fascinating and awe inspiring read. These are _very_ intelligent creatures! Also, if you are bothered by these 3 in unison, you owe it to yourself to search youtube for single magpies singing. They really have a beautiful and complex song.
If you treat them well they are amazingly friendly, at my house they come inside if I leave the windows open. They walk around and then leave after a while. But if you cross them….. beware they hold a vendetta for years, they swoop and will actually hit you with there sharp beak. When I was a kid we caught a young bird and bought it home, the parents sat outside the door and attacked at every opportunity, even after we gave baby back they continued to hunt us for months. Best to be friends with them.
They also provide entertainment in comedy form, such as early spring when someone gets too close to a nesting mother maggie 😂
Praise God, this is truly a beautiful and uplifting performance!
Thanks Maggie Whisperer, I've been trying to find out who/what this was for ages!
they are very intelligent, study my New England NSW many years ago was incredible learnt masses about lifespan and their abilities.

Fun Fact: Australian Magpies are being regarded as inventors of the 'dubstep' genre.
also fun fact: dubstep was invented by someone accidently falling down some stairs with a soundboard in his hand.
Also fun fact technically Australian magpies aren’t magpies at all. Magpies belong to the family corvidae. A family which also contains crows, ravens and jays. Australian magpies are in the family artamidae, making them closer related to cuckoos and pied butcher birds.
Fun fact: People often use "Fun Fact" for something that is not fact.

This is a terrible rationalization. Because the people would SEE THESE THINGS ALL THE TIME. Believe it or not when you work on a farm for generations, you become familiar with the local wildlife.
