I raised one of these gorgeous birds from a baby. She had been washed out of atree along with her mud nest in a storm and her siblings were dead. What a big personality. She was a buddy for awhile, came when I called, then gradually returned to the wild. It was a privilege. The music was awesome.
What a beautiful song! I am not familiar with these birds. Thank you so much for capturing this footage and sharing it! It’s a real upper in my morning.
Beautiful! I get woken up by birds every morning, and I love it! I have a birdbath beneath my bedroom window. My window is never closed. We always feed the birds they are nature's gift.😊❤😊😊😊😊😊
There are between 5 and 7 of these who come every day and I feed them, one will take food from my hand but they all like to catch the food when I throw it in the air. They make up some elaborate songs if they are hungry and want my attention. It's beautiful to have them around. Thank you for filming and posting this.
Sure do miss these birds. Mum tamed a few and they would spend most of the day with us. She could hand feed them and they would sleep on our window sill and outside table. Beautiful birds. And had two kookaburras as well. Australia has amazing birds
This is absolutely (at least to my ears, and expectedly) *not* in any standard temperament, but my best approximation of the start of this melody is: Bb - E - F - Eb - Bb - B I'm too tired to transcribe the last couple notes, but that is absolutely wild in how great it sounds despite being so unconventional. Beautiful. Closest thing is the octatonic scale, I guess. Perhaps the birbs are thinking "alternating half-whole steps" but I don't know. Crazy how the very first interval is the "most dissonant" in music: the b5/#4. To anyone not familiar with music theory (I imagine most of this sounded like gobbledygook) that's the "devil's interval" so often spoke about - the very first two notes of this melody comprise that interval.
@@zeddybear257 yeah they are not too distressed. It's very normal when the young get to full size like the one here with his parents they start roaming a lot, so the family unit stop and make some calls. If they get desperate they will get high in the trees and spread out a lot and make the calls, but still close enough to hear each other
@@unclemac9631 no i'm pretty sure that is a male, female and youngling in the video. They look the same. Younglings usually bit scruffy looking and more energetic lol
Crows aren’t even closely related to magpies… Yes an Aussie magpies closest relative are butcherbirds, then currawongs, then woodswallows. Corvids are wwwaaaaaay different
Love butcher birds, I used to have one come and visit me every morning when I lived in Qld. He/she used to sing me a song most mornings. Used to eat the dogs dry food but only when I was inside. N3ver took it if I was outside. We had @ 70 k8lo dog in the yard that jus5 let the bird fly down and eat as much food as the bird wanted. The dog hated the magpies but loved this bird. Think the magpies attacked him a couple of times cos he was afraid of them. Thanks for this video..
Posting this as a separate comment for everyone saying they look too cute to be butchers. Here's how Shrikes got to be called Butcher birds. Butcherbirds get their name from their gruesome way of feeding. When they catch prey, they hang it off a branch or tree fork (or even barbed wire), and hack the meat away, just like a butcher. It also hangs uneaten food in the fork of a branch or impaled on a twig (their 'larder') and comes back to eat the leftovers later. 😮
Daww they are trying to do a lil song for them, by them trying to harmonize can guess they might be a family some bird species share their special song to family members so they can find eachother
Lovely. Where was this recorded? In my understanding their song changes from season to season, and by geographic area. The ones here in northern Melbourne sound nothing like these!
Lovely song! Our European Magpies do not sing sweetly, but they do ‘cawwwwrrrrr’ a lot 🖤🤍 They’re very intelligent & lively, & represent my local football team so I love ‘em. UP THE MAGS & HOWAY THE LADS! #NUFC 🖤🤍
That was just lovely.
It's nice to be entertained by one Butcherbird, but three what a bonus.
Excellent footage 👍😀🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it
Poor things trying to be heard over motorbikes and traffic. Love their beautiful songs.
Forget the traffic the birds are singing despite the noise. Beautiful song trying to piece together what it is!

Interesting song and dance they do. Remarkable
How pretty! Sounds like a phrase from Beethoven.
А что это за птица?
Never heard these beauties before❤
@user-ix6wp5hz7i it's a butcher bird.
Both Magpies and Butcher Birds produce sounds that thrill and delight. Such beautiful sounds!
Many thanks!
I live in the hervey bay , wonderful sounds , untill you get woken up at 5 am every single day by them , and the kookabura,s lol
I love the early mornings and the bird songs. Best time of the day. I never mind being woking up by birds singing to welcome the day.
Currawong bird
It's easy to see the similarity both in looks and sound to the Australian Magpie. (Unlike the European magpie they are not part of the Corvid family).
Similar to the magpie in Canada as well.
Same family so not that surprising.
Our magpies just screech angrily at everything.
( I mean European)
@@nephone I understand European magpies can become quite good mimics.

Adorable! They look just like the three tenors, down to the dinner jackets..

Thank you for sharing this wonderful nature’s bird song!! It’s so nice to hear the birds singing anytime of the day.
Glad you enjoyed it
What a treat to have them up so close to you! Thank you for sharing their beautiful performance.
Glad you enjoyed it
I use a butcher bird's call as my ring-tone. People have been startled when my phone rings in a shop!😀
I use the call of a Kiwi 😂
I have the Kookaburra but when the real kookaburra's laugh I sometime can't tell the difference and run for my phone
I use the bark of a Basenji🙃

They are into Death Metal.
They are...
BUTCHER Birds
Is the dissonance lessened by each note's harmonics, the interplay between overtones?
Amazing to read about your perception of birds chant 😊 this is very original
Beautiful birds and sounds, thank you.
I quite like that song.
That's the coolest thing, how they all chime in , like on cue.
They are beautiful, and what a beautiful song they are singing!
I’ve never heard these beautiful birds song! Omgiddy heart they are so sweet. 😻❣️😻
2024 Monday 12 May what a lovely nature bird watching part of the day. Outstanding singing. Thank you 😊
Such a beautiful song! I've never heard it before. Thank you for sharing this with us!🤗
Baby still learning how to carry a part!
I love how they bob their heads up and down while singing. So cute.❤
These birds are beautiful, and their singing is awesome. Thank you!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful birds put on quite the show. 👍
It's a family unit, that seems to have lost a youngling. They all sing loudly, then stop and listen for a response.
I hope they’re able to find it. It appears because it sounds lovely and not distressed that it can be misunderstood.

This is so cute...like they are a singing Trio .
God has such a sense of humor 😄
Wow absolutely fanfriggingtastic. First time seeing and hearing one❤😊 thank you for sharing ✌️
One of the world's most beautiful sounds.
0:39 that sync was beautiful
Sounds like those weird musical tubes that you swing round your head, love it
We lived in Queensland for 7 yrs during the 90s and one of my nicest memories are the butcher birds. Their song is amazing.
Singing for their supper! I even recognized the John Phillips Susa, Marching tune!!!❤ They are so talented they've taken it on the road!🤗
I love this. It’s so beautiful. My favorite thing as soon as I get up in the morning and open, the door is hearing my birds outside my garden singing.

Wow! I get them at the bird bath in my front garden all the time. I'm in Perth WA.
I like the birbs.
It surprises me that they sing in almost perfect unison, especially at 0:38 😮
Butcherbirds waiting for breakfast.😂
They look so happy when they sing.
I love it.💕
I have never seen this kind of birds. They are not only beautiful but they sing so good. Love it. Tks for sharing.
I believe these are also extremely intelligent.

Mother nature is awesome
That's quite the chorus. 🙀 We don't have singers like that here. An assortment of birds, just nothing similar. Kudos to you. 😺

One of my favorite songs.
It sounds like they're trying to sing the Blue Danube but can't quite hit it
lol i hear it
Such a cool bib on the bird , i love hearing these little guys , when i see them ill start whistle there song so it gets them going !
I love listening to their differing songs across different areas. Thats a lovely melody from your trio.
Cool song, they sound neat
Love the sounds of the butcher bird. They come to my home in Sydney an I feed them with all the other birds.
That's awesome
Incredibly adorable. I envy you guys. Quite romantic as well. ❤
What beautiful music they make.
The birds look innocent and gentle . Most unlike butchers .
You should see what they do with their prey.
You should see what humans do with each other.
Love this! i'll tape it w other wonderful bird songs to play on dreary winter mornings.
Absolutely gorgeous.💜💜💜😊👌
