Congratulations on your new job Tanya 🙌😎 I like to sew double gauze in its fullness rather than flat ironed. I’ve tried both and the fit is better for my preference when it’s at its most relaxed pre cutting stage. Looking forward to seeing your finished garment 😍
For double gauze, if you like the wrinkles, don't iron it, however, it will grow a bit as you are wearing it, but will shrink up and crinkle again with washing. However, if you don't like as many wrinkles, iron it before sewing, and then you also have to iron it after each wash, but it won't grow as much with wear. Its all personal preferance. I love the crinkles, but I also have to rewash my double gauze clothing every time I wear it, or it gets too big. If you are between sizes though, that works in your favour if you go for the smaller size, because it starts out slightly small but stretches out to be loosely comfortable. The more crinkles there are, the more it can stretch out though. Onthe other hand, if, after washing, you find you dont have quite enough fabricfor your pattern, ironing it can help make it big enough to make the pattern. So there are pros and cons for doing it either way.
Thank you so much for the advice, that's really helpful. It's very spongey and stretchy, much like a jersey fabric so I don't think I'll risk making a collar with it. Thank you for watching 🌼
Hi Tanya. I love how you explain your makes and how you did some of the sewing and alterations and actually show us on the pattern piece - this is so useful thank you x
Hi Tanya! I'm a returnee! 😅😅😅 Congratulations on getting the job. I am retired so no more of that, but I'm trying to lose weight. I love that black blouse. It does not look oversized on you. ❤
Thanks for your video :) A for the double gauze, it depends on whether you are going to want to iron it after each wash. If you are, iron it before cutting out and sewing. If you don't want ot iron after washing, cut out and sew without ironing, It's really your choice depending on which look and feel you prefer. I would go for the non-ironed option because I prefer the look of it - and I don't iron my clothes after washing :)
Love the McCalls top and your Marnie. Can't help with the double gauze questions, I've only used it once and mine was a bit wrinkly but not like your pink fabric, and I only made PJ's! My only thought it that if you do iron it then wear the garment it might then relax back into its wrinkly state while you're wearing it. And I'm with you on Rainbow Fabrics, I've had a bad experience with chambray sold as cotton chambray that is definitely a polycotton blend and mostly polyester. I get that they may not know exact composition but they should be honest when it's obviously a blend.
Hi, there are interfacing that don't need to be ironed in. Just sown in with the seam lines.or you can use a slightly firmer fabric to act as a soft interfacing. Happy sewing.
Hi Tanya, I have worked with a double gauze similar to that. I didn't iron it because I thought that once I washed it the fit might be smaller. I made a blouse with it and I am happy with the outcome. I made the Love Notions Rhapsody Blouse. The blouse has a back yoke and was supposed to have a pleat but I did gathering instead because I didn't know how the pleat would come out in that kind of fabric. The neckline is finished with bias binding, and I did make that from the fabric, and am pleased with result. I do have plans to make pajamas in this fabric with the top having a collar, but haven't made them yet so I can't tell you about doing the collar. I wish you success with your top. I enjoyed your video!
You have made some really lovely garments, my favourite is the Marnie blouse, what a gorgeous fabric ❤, I’ll definitely be using your tip for the ruffle when I make it. Congratulations on your new job. ❤😊
Well done for getting the job. Your black blouse looks lovely, love the wide leg jeans as well. I’ve got that pattern but haven’t made it up so thanks for the heads up on the pattern pieces and seam finishing. I think I would iron the double gauze before I cut it out if it was me, I would be worried if I didn’t it would stretch out of shape the first time I washed it
Your peppermint pants came out so well! The Marnie is also so amazing- you’re right about it just being the happiest print. I’ve done the same thing where I go back and forth on whether or not I’ve sewn the right seam and unpick it more times than I’d like to admit. 😂 Oh and congratulations on the job! That’s so exciting 🤗
Hi Erin, thank you. I'm really pleased with the trousers. The weather over here makes them a bit chilly around the ankles still 😂 It's crazy how a tired brain makes it so hard to think straight, sewing needs brain power!
I would iron before cutting out as you will have to iron as you sew your top which if you didn’t pre iron would mean you would end up with different looking and sized pattern pieces!
I heard you treat your gauze how you intend to go forward with it. If you like to gently iron/steam it then do so before cutting out or if you’re a non-ironer then leave it be. I always steam it gently or lightly press. Whatever you make will be gorgeous, yours is a stunning colour!
Congratulations on the new job🎉 I really appreciate your thought for the day. Well done on the color blocked jeans! I’m wondering if you could use stabilizer on the seams of your viscose bias skirt to keep it from being wavy?
I have done the same thing! Oh I did it wrong unpick, no it was right, etc. Your Marnie is beautiful. I would press the double gauze thoroughly, over lock and then wash and cut. That is the spongiest double gauze I have ever seen!
Thanks, it's had a wash and I've attempted to iron it all but the crinkles are tricky to iron consistently, some bits are easier than others. It's going to be one of those fabrics...
What a great idea for the shoulder ruffle piece! I don't know for sure on the double gauze question, but it looks like ironing it before cutting out would be the best idea. I'm wondering where you got the fabric for the first dress you showed for your daughter. That is beautiful!! I love your channel!
Hi, thanks so much for watching and I'm really pleased you like my channel 😊 The fabric was from a swaps table, so I don't know where it was from originally.
Hi, so sorry I thought I'd replied to all the comments. I can't find the original comment you left, please remind me which blouse you mean? The Marnie blouse?
Hi, I was a teacher and have moved into learning and development. It definitely is a tough market out there. If you're on instagram send me a DM and we can chat more x
Congratulations on your new job Tanya 🙌😎

Thanks Julie 😊 I've sewn it unironed before but this is so squishy, like a quadruple gauze 😂
Those wide legs pants are so cool with the colour blocking!! Great tips about the ruffles too!’ And keep turning over stones is such a great mantra xx
Thanks Rachel, I'll have to try out the ruffles again just to make sure I've really got the hang of it 😂

Great jeans! Love the color blocking and tip on the button hole.
Thanks so much, it's nice to try something different from time to time.
I’m so glad I found your channel. (Greensboro North Carolina USA)
Thank you so much, thanks for watching 😊

Hi Zelda, great to hear from you 😊 I hope you reach your goals too.
Love your Peppermint pants. Would love to see more colorblocking. I have a lot of remnants so ideas for colourblocking are VERY welcome🙂
Thanks. It's a great way to use up scraps and you can use colour blocking in lots of ways, pockets, collars, cuffs 😊
Do not press it! You want the crinkles as part of the design element!! One of the things I love about this fabric!! :+)
Thanks, it's as stretchy as a jersey fabric with all the crinkles so will have to rethink my plans for it...
Congratulations on the new job! My vote is for pressing first, I think it will expand in the wearing otherwise.
Thanks Denise 😊 I started pressing the whole piece and it was taking ages, it's so crinkly! I'm going to rethink the project...
Diagonal button hole - genius!
Hehe just copied from a pair of work trousers. We can't let those bulky seams get the better of us 😂

Thank you 🌼 I agree with you on RF, a poly blend should be easy for them to spot.

Thanks Irena, that's a good point about the interfacing. Thanks for the tip 🌼

Thank you for the tips, your blouse sounds lovely. Did you press the seams, particularly when doing the bias binding? Thanks for watching 😊
You have made some really lovely garments, my favourite is the Marnie blouse, what a gorgeous fabric ❤, I’ll definitely be using your tip for the ruffle when I make it. Congratulations on your new job. ❤😊

Hi Angela, thanks for the tips on ironing the fabric. Give the Peppermint pants a go, the fit is great 🌼
Your peppermint pants came out so well! The Marnie is also so amazing- you’re right about it just being the happiest print. I’ve done the same thing where I go back and forth on whether or not I’ve sewn the right seam and unpick it more times than I’d like to admit. 😂

Thank you, this is proving tricky to press and I do prefer it a bit flatter...not sure what I'll make with it now!
Congratulations on the job! It's so hard to apply and get through interviews, so well done!! I'm a new viewer and really enjoy your videos :D
Thank you, job hunting is really hard, I'm so relieved! Thank you for watching, so pleased you enjoyed it 🌼
Congratulations on the new job🎉 I really appreciate your thought for the day. Well done on the color blocked jeans! I’m wondering if you could use stabilizer on the seams of your viscose bias skirt to keep it from being wavy?
Thank you Juliana 🌼 I'd like to try a bias cut slip dress one day but it's hit and miss for me, the stabiliser sounds like a good idea though.
Thanks goodness I am not the only one with the wrinkly cotton fabric question 😂 mines wrinkly linen...but the same as the cotton.
Ooh a wrinkly linen, I haven't seen one of those. It's a good excuse not to iron I guess!
I've not seen double gauze that crinkly. I'd be ironing it flattering as that's the look I would want for my garment. I've only had one x
It does seem unusually crinkly!
I have done the same thing! Oh I did it wrong unpick, no it was right, etc. Your Marnie is beautiful. I would press the double gauze thoroughly, over lock and then wash and cut. That is the spongiest double gauze I have ever seen!
Same thing has happened to me. These are attacks from the spirit world. God bless ❤
Good to know I'm not alone, sometimes my mind can't get to grips with it 😂 It is such a spongey fabric, even pressing it is tricky!
I find a lot of double gauze is like yours and I’m very wary of it. I would wash it, iron it and then cut out. It looks like it will stay flatter.
Thanks, it's had a wash and I've attempted to iron it all but the crinkles are tricky to iron consistently, some bits are easier than others. It's going to be one of those fabrics...

Ohhhh I love the colours of your marnie top? What fabric designer was it? 😍
I think it might be a By Poppy design but it was from Simple Life fabrics 😊
Who does the High Wycombe social?
Hi, it's Sam, Sequingirlie. She has an Instagram account for the sewcial called The Southern Sewcial
hello your work with fabric looks great, I was hoping you could reply to my message with the blouse pattern name?
Hi, so sorry I thought I'd replied to all the comments. I can't find the original comment you left, please remind me which blouse you mean? The Marnie blouse?
Do you mind if I ask what kind of job you were looking for? My husband has been looking for 5 months, had a couple of interviews but no job yet.
Hi, I was a teacher and have moved into learning and development. It definitely is a tough market out there. If you're on instagram send me a DM and we can chat more x
You were a teacher! No wonder I enjoy your channel so much 😊
