This video inspired me to tell my own regret with my car. I’ve owned a 2018 ISM WRX for almost 4 years now, and 1 year into ownership, I was super convinced to get my roof wrapped in black. I get a few quotes from recommendations on my local soflo subaru fb page and decide to go to the cheapest guy. Area was pretty sketch but decided to give it a go since the wrapper had a decent portfolio with some of the jobs he has done. I go inside his shop and notice he’s training a new guy while wrapping my car. I get it back, and notice a few small dents on my car’s roof. In addition, he also couldn’t wrap the shark fin antenna properly, and didn’t know how to remove it from the car, so that wrap started peeling off when I got home. He offers to fix it for free if I come back, and I did, this time I remove the shark fin antenna so he can do a better job with the wrap. Same issue, wrap starts peeling off when I get home. This time I remove it from the antenna and notice small blade cuts from the knife he or his assistant used all around the shark fin. Really pissed me off. Decided to just stay silver on that part. Around this time, the dents on the car’s roof were really bothering me since they were bunched up near the back of the shark fin. I had a great idea. I can use a vortex generator to hide it while making the car look somewhat decent. I go to ebay, find a cheap one for $60 and install it on the car, a replica of the subispeed one that wraps around the whole antenna. Only problem is it’s not an exact fit for the car, with a whole 2 inch gap around the shark fin. No worries, I prep the roof properly with some alcohol and the strongest 3m tape ever. All is well, until I leave the car in the sun and the vortex generator starts warping. I take it home and in my desperation and frustration to remove it from the car, i used a pry tool and a heat gun, damaging the roof with even more dents, and at one point scratching the roof paint to the bare metal. (I cringe at this memory myself). At this point my roof is fucked, so I have to take the ENTIRE gloss black wrap off pretty much wasting $250 dollars. I touch up the roof with some paint from subaru so it wont rust, but now i’m left with a roof that has a bunch of dents and scratches on the back parallel to the shark fin antenna. I didn’t have the funds to repair the roof which would probably cost me $3k or more. Nearly out of options but still determined to get my roof gloss black, I find another wrap shop with decent reviews looking to do the job while also explaining that i’m aware I fucked up my roof and the wrap job won’t hide it. They do a much better job and aside from the damage to the roof, the wrap is perfect. At this point, I decide fuck it and buy the subispeed vortex generator which is a perfect fit around the shark fin, later realizing it tucks underneath the antenna which keeps the vortex generator from coming off like the cheap ebay ones. I paint it gloss black to match the roof, use strong 3m tape and put it on the car. It looks super good, you can’t even tell I fucked up my roof lol. This was 2019. About 3 years later, some parts of the vortex generator is starting to lift but nothing too noticeable. At this point it is what it is 🤷♂️. Biggest regret of my life. Had I done everything over again, I would have just gone to the second place to wrap my roof, forget the vortex generator, and this whole thing would have never happened. Sadly sometimes I gotta learn the hard way.
Damn that had to be a terrible experience. I'm sorry you had to deal with all of that. I also bought a cheap Vortex Generator on my old 2015 wrx and had the same issue. And I took it off and accidental dented the area. But now I know I just need to be extra careful next time.
@@StreetInspired1 Agreed. I enjoy this channel because of the transparency and you show that things don’t always work out when modifying cars. I don’t have anything against those people that manage to do everything right the first time and have a “perfect” build, but it’s a lot nicer to find a fellow enthusiast you can relate too. 👍
Question for you first: is the car not tuned with the front mount? I definitely wish I would have started a TH-cam channel a lot sooner to document all the stuff I’ve done to my car as I’ve done it. But never to late to start I guess! Second, I definitely wish I went in a bit of a different order in modding my car as well. If I was to do it all over again I think I would do exterior looks stuff and then drive ability first before diving straight into engine performance. Like you said lessons learned! Time to keep pushing and enjoying it.
Correct. It was tuned on the topmount. It hasn't been retuned but it is post maf and everything so it should be fine it's just not going to be any more powerful than it was before. And you're right it never is too late. Even of you don't post it somewhere it's always good to document it. I have hundreds of pictures and videos of almost every car I've owned. And I feel like most people feel the opposite. Usually people wish they spent cosmetic money on the performance. I've tried to balance it out but I definitely wish I did a few more cosmetic things.
@@StreetInspired1 thanks for the reply! That helps me out haha. My next major upgrade is going to be front mount I just don’t want to fork out the extra money for another tune until I add a few additional parts. Good to know I’ll be able to go ahead and run that for a bit and hopefully help my heat soak issues. Thanks man!
Love what your doing to the car.. I just got my first ever WRX 2016 base model.. for your front bumper area that you cut, get some black mesh screen and form it to fit in that area you can keep the improved air flow and help stop some road debris chipping the finish on the FMIC.. iv been stock piling your mod vids to do my car. Already got the radium catch cans.. also the master cylinder brace. 1 thing I want to upgrade is the solid transmission mount bushing for underneath the car and a pitch stop
Not a bad idea at all! Better flow for the Intercooler and less noticeable! And nice man! You'll love the Radium cans. The solid mount is sweet but it becomes a little much. I actually swap it in and put sometimes. I'll run it when I'm planning on having fun with the car or if I'm going to the track and I'll put the group N mount in if I want more comfort for a while. But the pitch stop has been fine!
I’m currently changing the color of my gauge cluster from red to white and just put new taillight vinyls on my 11 sedan sti . Next I got tomei uel header of marketplace for 150 bucks that has some shit welds that I’ll clean up an wrap in heat wrap and put on
Keeping it real, you should've known what kind of car you were getting into an known that all the "cool quality parts" are going to cost you. You have a nice car, buy nice quality parts because it'll last. Be patient and wait to get the expensive things that you want. It's just a number
I have a 2019 wrx base model. I have a kartboy short throw shifter which was needed. The throws were long and sloppy stock. Had a nameless muffler delete but it was really raspy and had a lot of drone so I got a tomei catback. I added a s209 Wing to my wrx which I wish I hadn't because I can't use a car wash now lol. I got it for sale for $50 instead of 500 on a flash sale at subispeed. Also I was about to start performance modding but decided to pay my car off in full which was last May. And I kinda fell out of love with the car so I'm keeping it stock to trade in for a new Nissan z.
Big bro if you didn't know what you was getting into you shouldn't have brought the car cause you got to spend money for more awesome sauce. I got a sti and I knew what I was getting into before hand and caked up while I had it.
I knew what I was getting into I've just entered the point where the stuff I want now is much more expensive. So I can't buy mods ever week like I was doing lol
Thank you for this discussion I have a 20/20 STI I'm looking at doing some suspension mods coilovers sway bars strut Tower braces. Seriously considering a cobbcat back and intake along with an access
Same man, I’ve had catback and intake in cart for weeks. Thinking about going suspension mods first and not touching anything close to the engine unless I know the full supporting mod list
I surprisingly don’t really have any regrets yet. I feel like I’ve done everything right so far. I put a lot of thought into everything I do. Bought all my performance stuff and supporting mods and did one tune.
Hey i wont lie Im marking out and cutting my bumper soon Its been a few times drawn and sketched as this is a #1 mod done on many racecars ive built and worked on is opening up the airflow such as this. Now for the sti and wrx to keep it tasty Ive marked mine along the top edge of the moulded bits and license plate hanger. In doing so its left enough black edge trim to look good and retain the side bits so its just opened up and not so "exposed" if you where to trim out ALL of the black trim. *aka cut almost like yours just you went too high for my taste, id of made a line at the mouldings*
I had that exact thought the second after it was cut out lol I said "shit I should've left like half an inch or so of plastic below the paint line. But it has proven to help the manifold Temps. A huge Intercooler doesn't help much when half of it isn't getting air moving through it. I'm hoping to find a way to clean it up a little bit!
That’s crazy how your exhaust melted your bumper, I have nameless hangers on my nameless axle back and I have maybe a quarter inch between the tips and my bumper no melting or anything.
Yeah I think it was my fault cheating out on the Axle Back. Nevwr had that problem with other Axle backs but the subie depot one was Un even and hung much higher on the driver side.
Hindsight is 20/20 but my only “regret” is not waiting until model year 2020 to get my car with the “performance package”. I got the first year they had it as an option so they screwed me by equipping the car with just red painted calipers instead of actual Brembos. But then again I’d still be on the hook for another 2 yrs financing lol 🤷🏻♂ STi tranny is a mod I want to do .. also the expensive Stratose shift knob basically eliminated that 4th gear shifter rattle I was getting when I had the Cobb delrin knob.
I agree I can't fathom why subaru won't just put frikin brembos on all wrx. They could do the 4 pistons for the wrx and 6 piston for the sti if they want to differentiate. They both should get them.

Been there done that, it seems like something that can be xheaped out on but I Went through 2 ebay lips and they were awful. Didn't fit, and the finish was crap. Then I get a nice one and smash it into a curb 🤦♂️
Intake won't do much in terms of power but it's still worth it for the sounds lol most tuners can squeeze 50 more whp out of a completely stock car because the factory tune is so bad. But if you add an intake and get a tune you'll definitely feel an increase in power from the tune and the sounds from the intake. Or you could get the cobb SF intake and run the cobb stage 1+ ots map designed for their intake and you'll get a power gain as well.

I currently drive a 2.0GT legacy. 1 thing i might have “regret” doing was going for an 18g turbo instead of 16g. My car is my daily driver. So having an 18g with that lag is a little hard to drive around town sometimes.. so thats one thing i would like to change in the near future.. probably downsize to a 16g ball bearing. Or upgrade to an 18g ball bearing.
Did the guy tint the outside of the Windows? Def not a fan of that and can see him easily damaging the exterior clunkin around. I know Ill probably be in the same boat of going TMIC then later get a FMIC, but I got a Depo TMIC for dirt cheap so it wont be a major loss.
No but they stretch across the car and cut the film to size on the outside of the car. That's why it's all on the 1/4 panels they laid a peice across the back window to get the measurement and leaned on the car with his tool belt on. And the Grimmspeed top mount was really good but now that I moved to Florida where it's hot almost all the time and wanted the extra cooling power. And I've seen the depo ones they seem like a good bang for the buck!

Oh crap and the stock one is pricey too! And it never hurts to use the flex fuel kit. You'll probably still see better numbers with flex. Worst part is the retune.
@@xil3ntkha0s I'm thinking that's my next mod. Seems worth it just for not having the headache of mixing and dealing with fueling oscillations. The Grimmspeed Fmic is actually really good quality and cheaper than ETS. My Grimmspeed fmic is 27" long, 11" tall and 4" thick. Very compatible to the 4" ETS kit. I had the Gs tmic as well and it was really nice. They're making good shit. Their new Turbos For the EJ look really good too. I pulled both of them out of the box at work and checked them out. But definitely recommend the trans. I have sti swap now because my grenaded at 17k miles. My last wrx transmission grenades at 60k.
I want to. The stock head unit is trash. My Android auto/apple car play never works and the volume is very limited and audio sucks. I've heard lots of good things about the idoing unit. I had a saicane android head unit on my 15 wrx and loved it!

Love all the honesty. One of the reasons why I subscribed. I’ve noticed on all your videos you tell it how it is unlike some other channels they give the people what they wanna hear. Keep doing your thing bro!
Thank you for your support!
Why’d you end up taking off the s209 flares ? Was looking to getting them but would love to hear u experience with them. Love the vids bro 🔥
Thank you! I think I explained it as best as I could in this video. Hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/MMbk-4DdVPk/w-d-xo.html
Never mind just saw the part you went over it in the vid haha
Sorry to hear about your tint guy. I had a similar experience :( 100000% worth it to wait for a professional shop
Definitely. Spending a few extra bucks to have a reputable shop do it would've saved me hundreds in dent work.
Hack and whack mechanic skills
What type turbo and size did you go with? It's not listed on your performance mod list. Thanks man I enjoyed your video
Stock turbo
Love the video man! I bought grimmspeed TMIC first... but then I fell in love with the BRZ manifold... which is now on my car 😊 love that mod... really stretches the power band and helps the car breathe. It's not cheap... but its worth it!
new engine.
Very helpful vid, especially for the young new enthusiasts. Wish I did certain things diff as well. We live and we learn, to the next mod 👍
Thanks man!
@@T.Hansen no problem. I've been running the front mount for months now in the hot and the cold with no issues so you should be good!
Brz intake manifold
Carbon fiber bro
Next I got tomei uel header of marketplace for 150 bucks that has some shit welds that I’ll clean up an wrap in heat wrap and put on
Steering dampener lockdown? Audio/stereo upgrade?
I've considered both. I'd probably do the lock down first but at some point I'd like to do both!
Keeping it real, you should've known what kind of car you were getting into an known that all the "cool quality parts" are going to cost you. You have a nice car, buy nice quality parts because it'll last. Be patient and wait to get the expensive things that you want. It's just a number
LED lights in the footwell
Already done in the front and rear. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Dude crazy how we made so many of the same mistakes with out wrx's. But we learn from our mistakes and that makes them learning opportunities.
how about getting some paintless dent removal? i just got one done on my fender from some A-hole and man it felt good seeing the body 100% again.
Thats the plan if people ever get back to me. Tired contacting 4 different PDR people now
It's time to upgrade to the all-new 2023 Nissan Z.
Man that car is sweet. The only thing I was unsure of was the front bumper but every single other aspect of the car is gorgeous!
@@StreetInspired1 oh aight then new blo5
built engine. send it
I totally would but.... th-cam.com/video/B2q0vmjrvss/w-d-xo.html
Did u roll ur fenders? Not rubbing with those 255s??
you need a carbon fiber steering wheel, I got one for my 17 STi and it looks a feels much better than stock one
I agree but it's so expensive lol
Hey i wont lie
Im marking out and cutting my bumper soon
Its been a few times drawn and sketched as this is a #1 mod done on many racecars ive built and worked on is opening up the airflow such as this.
Now for the sti and wrx to keep it tasty
Ive marked mine along the top edge of the moulded bits and license plate hanger.
Buy nice or buy twice
True statement
HKS turbo inlet. It looks amazing and fits perfectly. By far one of my favorite mod next to the AOS.
Hey brother I saw your other video on the new Wrx (sti tannny swap ) what did you do with this car?
Hindsight is 20/20 but my only “regret” is not waiting until model year 2020 to get my car with the “performance package”. I got the first year they had it as an option so they screwed me by equipping the car with just red painted calipers instead of actual Brembos. But then again I’d still be on the hook for another 2 yrs financing lol 🤷🏻♂
STi tranny is a mod I want to do .. also the expensive Stratose shift knob basically eliminated that 4th gear shifter rattle I was getting when I had the Cobb delrin knob.
I agree I can't fathom why subaru won't just put frikin brembos on all wrx. They could do the 4 pistons for the wrx and 6 piston for the sti if they want to differentiate. They both should get them.
@@StreetInspired1 beyond me man. Now it's going to cost me time and money to secure a set for my car. Hopefully the new STi won't look like horse shit and I can get one of those later.
Currently working on a turbo swap on a built FA20F. A beautiful twin scroll G30-770. Got the STI transmission swap done except the DCCD install.
Thats awesome! I've been checking out your videos as well and I'm looking forward to seeing the end result!
@@StreetInspired1 nice! My videos will get better and better. Got a GoPro 10 and now just gotta learn how to utilize the thing and some software ha ha ha.
Dude with what you have done to the front bumper, I think it would be nice to get a whole different style front bumper.
I've Considered getting a levorg sti front bumper!
Only thing I regret on my build is going with cheap eBay headlights. Stopped working 1 year later and I have some circuit demon headlights on the way soon
Damn sorry to hear that. But Circuit Demon does a great job so I'm sure you'll be happy with them!
@@StreetInspired1 lol yup, the high beams are painted yellow and I also got the morimoto projector fog lights as well.
I love "lessons learned" videos. Thanks for keeping it real!
The weather guards need to go. It’s overdone and it makes it rice
The rain guards? They're oem. Never heard someone say rain guards made a car rice. I don't have them for looks I have them for function 😂
@@StreetInspired1 idk man so many civics do it and 99% of the riced out cars have them. The only exterior mods I have on my sti is front lip, tints, and Tomei. Then I dumped $20k on performance mods.
@@dogdog4173 I think that's because 50% of the cars on the road have rain guards. Lol they're nice to have on rainy days. Which is every day here in Florida lol
There’s nothing rice about not getting wet through the window lol🙄
My only hint so far is I am now wishing I got the process west verticooler instead of the Mishimoto one.
I was going to get the mishimoto and my tuner warned me against it. I forget his exact reasoning. But hopefully at some point you could sell it and get most of your money back and use it towards a verticooler!
Highly recommend the verticooler
@@nikesbeast I definitely plan to revisit this area of he build and get one, and I’m also interested in swapping to the sti tranny as well!
Kinda funny because my tuner actually recommended getting the verticooler. I didn't because I had the GS sitting in my room for 2 years already lol
Bought a cheap front lip that didn't work out so great, so then bought the JNA CS style front flip afterwards 🤷♂️Buy nice, or buy twice!
Been there done that, it seems like something that can be xheaped out on but I Went through 2 ebay lips and they were awful. Didn't fit, and the finish was crap. Then I get a nice one and smash it into a curb 🤦♂️
@@StreetInspired1 Jesus wept lol
did you see a power gain with a cold air intake? thanks
Veloza snorkeler maybe?
Haha funny you say that. I'll be installing one soon. We got some at work to do media and installs on!
Curious to see Intake Temps before and after!
@@StreetInspired1 they look cool wanna see the Temps like u said should be cooler
With all the things that you wish you did different, that’ll give you plenty of future content if you actually do it. It’s not the end of the world. You still have time to change it
My thoughts Exactly. I can go back and fix or change the things that I'm not super happy about. It will just take some time!

Is the front mount hood for winter I live he where there’s a lot of snow
Yeah the front mount is good for all seasons!
Nice wrx. You have done alot of mods. Try a idoing headunit or type ra steering wheel maybe. Do you go to any car shows? Would like to see car in person lol
Thanks. I've considered both of those mods. And yeah I take it to local shows and I've had it at boxer fest and subiefest FL
What do you think about an FMIC in adverse conditions like rough roads or snow/slush and salt? Heard that rock chips and debris could mess it up.
You may get dome dented find from rocks hitting it but usually they can be straightened with tweezers and some patience gaha
I got the Cobb Big SF Intake for my WRX not realizing until mid-installation that the box interfered with my Radium dual catch can setup. Luckily i was able to sell it and recuperate most of my money. Have you ever considered installing stainless steel brake lines?
I forgot the Cobb box interfered with them. Everyone who had one had to cut a section out of the box. And I have considered it. Just didn't think hey were were the money right now.
16G is a great turbo. I ran 16g Turbos on all my old DSMs because it's such a nice street able turbo. But the ball bearing 18g would be sweet.
You can redo the tint
I wasn't complaining about the Tint I was a s complaining about the damage done by the tinter.
I would have paint protection filmed my whole car instead of just the front half.
Totally worth the money if you're planning on keeping a car long term. I wish I would've did mine.
Exotic car owners: why would you PPF a sub-$50k car?!
Lol... I PPF'd my hood/front bumper/side skirts. And it's a WRX. Bc this is my "exotic"
Wrap it 😍 Kinda like driving a new car for a little bit.
We need to see a carbon fiber roof!
I've thought about it. They sell them 😂 just way out of my budget.
Try some pdr on those dents
Been talking to a few guys about getting it done. I'd like to adress those before I spend any more money on mods.
@@StreetInspired1 it’s definitely more expensive than it was a few years ago
Because it bad corner is great
How’d you do your headlights? I notice the paint and c light but the low/high beam housing looks different? Or am I just seeing things ?
@4:58 they are aftermarket lights from Vland
@@StreetInspired1 ah that makes sense. I used to run a detail center many moons ago, so seeing anyone with belts or tools leaning near a car was a biiiiiiig NOPE.
My lesson was putting Coilovers on my 19 Sti. Not worth the ride just for looks!
Ive had BCCoilovers Fortune 500 Still suck Stock is better!
I'll be honest I was always scared of coilovers for this reason but my Silver's coilovers ride like stock if they're set to a softer setting. I have them pretty stiff though because I enjoy a bumper ride haha
Your telling me, I broke my HPFP installing my BRZ intake so I had to buy another one so I bought a stock one. I didn't know about the aftermarket HPFP. That's my regret and also I bought so many power mods that I hit 400 whp without using my flex fuel kit so I wasted my money on that mod.
HPFP is pricey for sure but since I'm lazy and didn't wanna keep messing with fuel trims I just bought and installed it. 100% worth.
Not to mention my flex fuel kit paid for itself with thr cost difference of 93 and e85 so the hpfp might pay for itself after a few months of those extra few gallons of E.
S209 flares looked horrible any way stock body looks way better.
The FA 😂😂
Zero regrets having an FA20 with STI Drivetrain, Brakes, and Recaro Seats. I prefer the fa20. It's new and exciting
Probably only regret was going tomei equal length header vs the unequal length on the 2017 wrx wish I got the rumble
Can't deny that the uel header sounds incredible!
When I build my motor I’ll be going unequal
I put a rear diffuser on my 2020 wrx. Its the non aggressive from subie speed. I love it. I been looking at white line sway bars to do. So far nothing I regret yet. Maybe my vortex generators I regret. I want to get less aggressive ones.

Grimmspeed front mount intercooler?! Where's ETS? Grimmspeed only good at decorative stuff, not performance. I've got a '16 wrx. First is getting a built motor and upgrade trans. Stock is garbage. Car is very pretty
I don’t brand hop so seeing 5 brands in you’re engine bay makes it seem too much is going on…just my opinion
Car looks great though
You could buy an android headunit! I’ve heard the IDoing headunit for the WRX and STI are good.
I want to. The stock head unit is trash. My Android auto/apple car play never works and the volume is very limited and audio sucks. I've heard lots of good things about the idoing unit. I had a saicane android head unit on my 15 wrx and loved it!
