If you are not familiar with a specific product you should not comment. This particular machine specifically states to steam with lid open or you may damage machine. It also states to keep lid closed until it beeps. He is doing it correctly,

I'm thinking of buying one of these as I have joint & muscle problems which makes ironing difficult & painful. I've heard you can fold a shirt/tshirt and put it in the press pre-folded. Has anyone tried this?

I think you are supposed to close it and steam ,that is why is called steam press iron

Instruction manual says to release steam few inches from the bottom. Otherwise the press will break. He’s doing it the right way.

He is doing it correctly. This is a press, not an iron.

you can press from an ordianry iron more quickly then this one.
less electricity less time and dont have to open or close again n again.i can press 2 pants in this time from simple iron.the cloths must b ministered of this too much steam..dont like ths at all.

i believe you are supposed to close it completely and then steam press it..... what your doing is wasting steam and pressing with hot plates so your not really using the steam effectively...... also the beeping is a warning that you have closed it too long.... it is to stop your garments from burning

You are obviously an iron user and possibly not a good one at that. This machine, like my Singer Magic Press 7 uses its steam burst function exactly as shown in the video, with the top plate raised about 1inch from the base. This relaxes the fibres of the fabric ready for pressing when the top plate is lowered and clamped in place for a few seconds. The instructions for this machine (and several others), also say to keep the press closed until it beeps. My machine does not have this function, but the whole idea of a press is to use steam to relax the fibres, then the heat to almost dry and set the fabric under pressure which takes a few seconds. If you know anything about pressing clothes with an iron, which I doubt from your comment, you would know that pressing and ironing are two completely different techniques.

I do hope others noted the obvious mistake you made after you had pressed one leg. You turned it and laid the other unpressed leg over the leg already done. But your mistake was after telling us be sure to smooth out to avoid any wrinkles. I could see you had missed the whole point because you laid the unpressed leg over the other pressed leg but that leg was creased when you laid each leg together and the fold in the bottom leg showed through the top so the inevitable was bound to happen. 2 ugly creases which you failed with your demonstration.
