- Ever wondered how to press a pair of trousers? The key is to use an iron, but adopt a pressing motion rather than an ironing motion. John Francomb, Creative Director at T.M.Lewin, gives this video tutorial on how to press a pair of trousers.

Thank God for TH-cam. So many skills I didn't acquire in school or by my parents that I need on a regular basis now. Cooking, clothing, and even parallel parking. Yup, did it right bumper to bumper first time without touching. Thanks to all the wonderful people on TH-cam for the lessons.
Congratulations!

Nice comment 👏🏻
Fnord Fnordington Yeesssss You can say that again and it’s such a bloody waste of Time and effort as well.Homeschooling just like Self Education is the way to go.
Your religious delusions have nothing to do with anything, you pathetic slob.
This is why community colleges should at least get back to offering home economics, even as a continuing education course. These skills are necessary and in high demand just like any other educational degree. I’m sure people’s bosses would like employees without wrinkled clothes. Lol education in everyday skills should be addressed in some level of school.
I'm changing career fields from construction to a more professional environment. Understanding the importance of appearance, but having no idea how to do some of these things, I really appreciate your videos. They have been a tremendous help. Thank you.
How is construction any less of a "professional" environment?
You never realise how important a video like this could be until you enter those jobs that require a neat, tidy and presentable front. Forever grateful for video tutorials on YT. 🙏🏼
What a legend. Of course I don't want fluff over my midnight blue navy suit. This sir is on point!
No music, perfect. Some of these YT videos with music really is distracting at times but this one is perfect.
I agree 100%. The practice of forcing one's own taste in music on helpless viewers and listeners is truly abominable. On top of that, if the voice-over is fast, or strongly accented, one simply misses words and phrases!
Man I hope I can have as much swag as this dude one day 😎
Xicano Xperience *Class*
You will never have as much class as this fine gentlemen. To use the parlance of the guys on the street - "Man has achieved infinite swegphoria, m8".
Xicano Xperience I was slightly intimidated
Simply wow. Pressing trousers was always like a mystery to me. Thanks.
how did you "establish" this ironing technique?
No, it's pressing technique for war!
🤣
I wonder the same thing
You've completely changed my mind about ironing! Well done!
Guys u shud come back and do more videos. This channel is brilliant. You guys were ahead of ur time. Somebody restart this channel, under the guidance of this gentleman.
Very important is set the iron to the right temperature. Check the label of the clothes.
If it's polyester trousers the material will melt if the temperature is to high, and that will leave a stain that can not be washed away!
Great video! I iron well but hate ironing creases into trousers. Have to do it though so your video makes it easy. However I always use a linen T towel to stop the shine. It really works. I am going to try the beating at the end to get a crisp line. Once you've done a good crease once you can just keep following it in future. Makes the trousers look really classy!, thanks again.
Hello, the most important thing to remember when looking for a new ironing board is that it is wide with a deep cushioning, the brand is not important as long as it follows these guidelines. :)
Excelent video quality, tips and demonstration.
Thanks for your instructions +T.M. Lewin
Great info/video. How do you handle correcting the seam when a double/triple seam happens? Any tips please???
At last! thank you so much for such a great manual - very helpful!
Loving the videos; this guys knows what he's talking about
You sir, are a life saver. Thank you!
I work in the industry where dress pants is commonly used, this is s very helpful video ! Thank you !
Love the tea towel and bangin' scrub brush!
Great series of videos - It came in handy in my hotel room. Still, I managed to daydream for a moment and burn my trousers. I think practice on cheaper garments is in order.
Finally... A GOOD ironing/ pressing video... wish I found your channel sooner :D
Thanks
These videos were incredibly useful to me. I now look forward to shopping with you.
Best Regards.
awesome .great tricks i did not know
I feel like ironing!!! You are amazing. Thank you.
so helpful and you are so cool John Francomb
Sir, you are amazing. You actually made something that I saw as a chore into an interesting subject. Thank you.
Agreed !
.
Thank you Sir - this skill is going to save me SO MUCH money!!!
Nice, so glad to come across your TH-cam lessons in caring for our midnight ladies suit. Really a great help though seeing how I just got my first suit since I was 12yr old, yes it's has been a while and I like having a suit today. I watched you vid on ironing shirts and now this one, good stuff. Thank you a bunch. I just have to find some good dress shoes now and a over coat with a hat of some sort... yes really not kidding. :)
“Ideally you want a lint free one, because you don’t want fluff all over you midnight Navy suit!”
My brain: don’t say it, don’t say it...................................FOR WAR!
I have no problem ironing my shirts but ironing or "pressing" trousers is a time-consuming chore because it takes time to get it right. In this video, I got a couple of tips to make it somwhat easier to do.
Very Informative. many thanks for sharing it.
Very informative videos. You seem to enjoy your job. If the T.M Lewin products are made with as much attention to detail as do do your videos I hope to buy some in the future, that tells me they are good products. Thank You!
This is so fantastic... thanks so much for the video. Brilliant.
He's using a Brabantia Titan Oval Ironing Board and Philips Azur Iron
Great content. Masterclass
Thank you for this information. But may I ask if there is any exception by pressing or running the iron on the clothes, Jeans and trouser?
This man is a wizard
I just like hearing him say "trouser" lol
Best comment by miles , lol , Trouser . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
ASMR?
Hello, no problem on the questions we enjoyed reading them. If you're thinking about buying a steamer you might benefit more from buying a better iron that allows you to control the steam on it, maybe a similar one to the one featured above.
I was looking for the answer to ironing trousers and this was very helpful thank you. No need now for me to look elsewhere.
Really liked the video!I am a tailor but always had a problem pressing pants I made.I am thinking about buying a steam generating iron to give me more steam.Right now I have a gravity feed iron which is amazing but the generator seems to be a step up.Wondering if you think its worth the money?
Wow! Learned SOOO much! Thanks!
very useful tips..thanks a ton for uploading !
..patting hard wid a wooden item did not improve da quality of ironin in my case
@TMLewinOFFTHECUFF That is VERY helpful. Thank you so much. I have added your video to my favourites so I can consult it from time to time.
press trousers and iron shirts, lesson learned. Thanks!
Thanks for your expertise!!
I have been "ironing" my shirts and pants for half a century and never understood or really even thought about the difference between "ironing" and "pressing," and so have always avoided ironing my wool dress slacks myself, in fear of the dreaded shine that ruined some suits in my younger days. Thank you!
Thanks so much, very helpful. Can I use a new shoe shine brush to flatten crease? That's what your wooden thing reminded me of.
Excellent video!!!
Thank you for the helpful videos! A question: how high should the back crease extend?
thanks for this, just pressed a nice crease back into a lovely pair of pants with this videos help.
old but gold, wish id seen this when i was younger!
Good to know. can you recommand any good iron box please ?
Excellent - I'm not quite at the standard of my local ironing shop yet but it made a big difference - really noticable when I put them back on the hanger. Thanks.
Very knowledge i have gained i use the method on my job thank you
It worked!!!! Thank you so much!
Thanks for this simple video
Thank you!!! That was brilliant! 👍👍👍
Hi there!
I am new to ironing. My pants & shirt are made of a heavier cotton for work. I have looked around for different tutorials, however this one has helped THE MOST!
I need advice.
I wear flat-front pants. My biggest struggle is lining up the pant-legs to press in creases. With seams lined up, as I reach the crotch area, the creases start to set off-course as the pants begin to shift and wrinkles start pushing upwards towards the top. It's as if the pants shouldn't line up naturally.
i would be great if can have another version of full video on pressing the trousers. as we need some tutorial on the other side of the trouser too~~ :D
why? Isn't it obvious?
Thank you so much, very good video!!!
Great stuff!
This video must be the most professional way.........thanks a lot for sharing!
Great video. Wish I'd seen this years ago.
Hi Rich, the video is a recommendation for suit trousers. For a pair of Dockers I would suggest following the care instructions that they come with. Hope this helps! :)
It's 5 o'clock, why aren't you having tea?
Oquelí A. Martínez S. And Crumpets lol.
Tea time is 4pm. Four o'clock in the afternoon; and it does not last an hour.
Enjoy !
I still love a crease in my pants from my jeans to my dress pants. It just looks so clean and crisp.
Great advice i for one am always having major issues with my trousers !
thanks, it was useful. That kind of help i needed:)
Thank you so much. The dry cleaner that I took mine to did a terrible job. I'll have to try this myself. Is there a particular kind of iron you recommend? Or some features I should look out for or avoid?
I like the tips on care and just plan measure for shirt. I find myself picking out what I need, the first time every time. I'm not afraid of waering my suits not that I'm sure of what I'm doing. I all so like the fact that I get to see clothes look and move in real life, meaning not on a model in perfect conditions. I look forward to see more of the T M Line.
Thank you for all the tips and how to videos.

Thank you. Very helpful.
This was amazing my crease looks professional… Thank you
Best video explaining this art
Great video! Just finished ironing my trousers. Next time i will do the pressing instead. I also ironed the trousers top part is that wrong?
Very helpful! Thankyou!
The width of your iron board is important; if it is a wide board it means that you will not have to move your garment at all when you are pressing it which will in turn help you create a straight line. Does this help?
I really enjoyed the video and yes, most of us ion and not press, so will keep that in mind. Maybe you could also put a video on how to iron shirts. thanks
I bought a heap of nice slacks at the thrift store. Some have pleted fronts some are flat fronts. I have pressed a crease down the middle of the pleated pant with it continuing into the pleat. However for the flat front pants, is it in style to press a crease down the middle. Or, should I press flat? (no crease down the front) The flat front pants do not have a hint of a center crease, so I'm not sure if I should put one in.
I notice you use a different iron in this video than you did for "TM Lewin How To Iron A Shirt". Do you have a favorite iron that you prefer? If you want to avoid recommending any brands, are there certain features you'd look for in an iron? I've heard a few people recommend Rowenta however the Oliso TG1100 looks pretty nice with automatic shut off and the "levitating" function.
I'm also looking for an ironing board, however it sounds like I'll just go for a wide, meshed-bottom board.
And I thought I could iron, you've taught me well T. M. Lewin!!
nice one mate great vid.
Thank you so much!
Do you have any advice concerning the use of starch? Will it damage good wool trousers? Thank you for the interesting video.
How far up should you do the back crease?
Awesome. Thanks
Nice work
By pressing the trousers you will have more of a visual folder down the centre of the trousers. Does this help?
Thank you sir!
whot iron is best by your opinion?Light or heavy.brand ?
@TMLewinOFFTHECUFF I am in US do you recommend any irons? It me longer to iron tourser. In fact a lot longer.
what visual difference does "ironing" have between "pressing". what would happen if you would just iron the pants? please explain the difference. thanks for the videos. very helpful
Can you answer my question? I've followed your instructions for pressing trousers but my iron leaves an impression of itself on the trousers, can you tell me why this is & how to rectify it. Thanks
what iron table are you using ? , if you could reply that would be great , it seems like a good one
Pure ASMR but helpful. Thanks.
Simply Nick exactly what i was thinking.
Thank you for your useful content... I am quite inexperienced in this matter, so I have two "basic" questions. 1. What sorts of fabric have to be pressed to avoid shine? Only wool, or also cotton or linnen? 2. Out of curiosity, what happens to the fabric, that it starts to shine after ironing? Thank you.
beautiful
Helpful videos
Awesome!
