I loved the end footage of those poor abandoned Citroens! That was so amazing to see those old neglected cars hidden in those bushes off the beaten path.
I know. I have driven all around Europe and it amazes me why people want to come and live in the UK. The place is a crime ridden dump and almost lawless.
France is gorgeous. (At least, outside Paris, much of which is a hateful sprawl of depressing banlieues and concrete). Elsewhere, it really is a much more relaxed way of life. Brexit now is one barrier, the language another. I wish I'd paid more attention in French lessons - I have a little, but as I discovered during a fortnight in Saint-Raphael (near Cannes) it's nowhere near good enough to get by. But I think what would really worry me about moving to another country is that the locals would treat me with the same sort of xenophobic hatred that the English dish out to foreigners over here. (My late wife was on the end of demands from people in tracksuits that she 'fuck off home' on several occasions: 'home', in her case, was Boston on the east coast of the US, so hardly exotic or culturally alien).
@@rich_edwards79 My French is a bit rusty too. Learning a bit more now though. It's pretty cosompolitan here so not too much of a problem with hatred of non-locals. If anything, I get treated like a tourist which is pretty good other than the cost of anything tends to go through the roof. My wife, who is a native, has to make herself known when we go shopping. Quite a laugh really.
Carry some JB weld with you in your tool kit, it takes up little space and fixes an amazing number of things. It could have filled the cracks in the fuel filler pipe if you couldn't make proper repairs right then. I used it to repair a BMW motorcycle saddle bag mounting point on the side of the road...it lasted 3 full weeks until I got home and could get it welded properly. I can't praise it enough for emergency repairs...my Dad fixed his '63 Chevrolet pick-up cracked thermostat housing with it when I was a boy...obviously its usefulness left quite an impression on me. Thanks for posting these videos!
Another cracking video . The icing for me was the Willy’s Jeep. Next summer I will be the proud owner of one at long last ..wanted one since I was a kid and it will be my 55th birthday present to myself
Indeed, we needed to see it! I'm one of those people who never associated Le Mans with anything but the racing circuit and, frankly, now I think that the town is way more interesting and attractive :D. All right, all right, I'm a petrol-head, too, please don't stone me, fellow HubNut fans: I know that the circuit is full of history and that it's probably quite perfectly suited to the 24-hour multiclass race that it's famous for, but this town is quite something!
There are very few HubNut videos which fail to lift the heart and give a warm fuzzy feeling. This is no exception. With bonus post-ptschoo footage too! My heart is once again lifted, and the feelings are certainly warm and fuzzy. I also have sausage rolls and a mug of cool beer. Excellent.
My eyes......those knees....aaarrrggg!😂😂😂 It’s tragic and fascinating in equal measure to see cars being reclaimed by nature like that! Le Mans looks stunning. Hi Ian,what a video, the scenery in these are nice to see,LeMans is a pleasant place to see,you got your fuel pipe done and now many more miles can be done, with a rest first 😀.
From a showery, cloudy Melbourne I am treated to the astonishing beauty of this ancient place full of sunshine. I have never been to anywhere that old and your brief travelogue is lovely. I think the camera position is the best you can do. Yes, the corner of the mount is in the way but the view ahead is much better. Knees out for an airing, haha
Nothing really beats driving along quiet country roads in the sunshine; fields either side; completely stress-free. The creator of the 2CV possibly had that relaxed scene in his mind when he designed her. 👍
Elly all repaired as regards the fuel leak, you're so right about Le Mans, some beautiful architecture there, old houses on small cobbled alleyways. You drove the Mulsanne straight in Elly, imagine some of the incredible racing cars that have laif their rubber down on that tarmac, really enjoying this trip alongside you Hubnut :)
Doing absolutely nothing when you could be helping us admire the cute French scenery of the feminine type, you layabout. Living the dream Ian, enjoy. Camaraderie is something that is sorely missing from modern society, it's great that Elly and her siblings can bring a random group of people together in a common desire to enjoy life.
I remember visiting Le Mans in the summer of ‘94 when I was InterRail-ing. We just went to visit the town and circuit, and it appeared that there was some sort of 2CV event on there at the time, and we saw a bunch of 2CVs trundling around bits of the circuit. Got a photo somewhere....

You have done a wonderful rest of the year tourism service to Le mans - most of us would not have known otherwise ! No more illicit petrol vaping - probably just as well :) .
The old town reminds me of Edinburgh with its narrow passageways & tall buildings. Lovely looking place & that looked like you passed the largest KFC I've ever seen.
We visited LeMan and the old town earlier in the summer, agree with your video it's a top place to visit. Angers down the road is fantastic too with even more to see.
Ian, ideas for Slovenia and Croatia seeing you enjoy stunning scenery and pretty towns? In Slovenia, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Triglav National Park. In Croatia after the 2CV event south to the Plitvice Lakes National Park, cascading lakes!! West to the coast, small ferry to the island of Rab, north through the Istrian peninsular, especially Pula and Rovinj. Gorgeous places. Thanks for all the hard work, I am loving the whole trip :-)
So good to have you back after the wifi issues. Le Mans definitely looks like a lovely place to visit. Hope you are now well rested and looking forward to the next episode! #2CVtoCroatia

Thanks for sharing your visit to Le Mans. Interesting stuff. We had our Summer holiday nearby last year. The old town is amazing (as you've shown). You might be aware of this, but there is also an amazing light show in the old town from about 10pm onwards on a lot of the buildings inc. the cathedral. You just have to watch your footing in the dark, due to all those cobbles and uneven steps everywhere. Also got to make a second visit to the Le Mans circuit museum. For a world famous location, on both occasions, I was struck by how small the museum actually is and also by the fact it wasn't very busy. Interesting stuff in there though. Just don't bother with the shop. Given the prices the management must be in la-la land. Bonne route and stay cool. 42C here in the Essonne this afternoon. By Jove, at 4.30'....that raw- brutal explosive amount of Elly's Burton engine....is absolutely astonishing. She's blistering fast on the Mulsanne Straight. Hear her screaming from happiness. A real lucky -happy girl😍😍😍😍
A pleasant surprise on a Thursday morning, I never knew that Le Mans was so old and with such stunning architecture, thanks for that. I don't think breakdown cover is such an issue, you're with loads of Citroen people and you know Elly inside out so you'll be able to take care of any issues.
Shouldn't be too difficult to run a bike chain to the back wheels and fit bike pedals to the passenger side - as a backup propulsion system. Better than the Flintstone option.
What an beautiful sight! I was not referring to your knees, Sir, I mean Le Mans... The Old town is truly magnifique, and Thank You, for the vid. Really cheered me up! Good to see Elly and her Master relaxing, too. Happy Days! Breakdown cover might be a part of your Banking benefits, depending on whom you use. i would not personally travel with out cover. Also, Remember it's not the car, it's the person, usually is how breakdown membership works, so... if you break down, ...with a friend whom is covered, ...in Elly, ... then 'they' and yourself, might well be extricated from an tricky situation. An route "breakdown covered friends" live along could be good! Check your bank, too. I'm with Barclays and have the "Travel Pack' It's well worth about £12 per month. (etc)...
Where as I would ordinarily simply exclaim, “Bugger!”... I think “Sacrebleu!” shall be an better choice, seeing as being as you are very much in France!
My guess would be that not every key was unique for the filler cap, so just going around the 2CV parking lot there asking everyone to try their key has a good chance of success.
It is probably the same key for every 2CV filler cap every made. Bit like British Leyland really. Reminds me of the day my brother in law got in some else's mini van started it and then realised it wasn't his! His was parked 2 cars down. Me and my sister just looked at him as he attempted to drive away and he didn't realise why we wouldn't get in that van.
Thanks Ian for another classic travelog and glad you fixed the petrol problem,I was wondering if you ever got round to fixing it,I did notice that on the Mulsanne Straight you were going so fast that you never got overtaken by any LMP1 cars and you had to negotiate roundabouts also,I was not aware that the old town of Le Mans was there, and how beautiful it was (many thanks for that ) although I thought the alleyways were a bit like diagon alley from Harry Potter .........just lovely ............Ian....no European Breakdown Cover........I think you will have to get your knees adjusted whilst you are there to compensate.....thanks Ian super stuff.
Such a shame to see beautiful old cars left like that, to rot away unloved. Like some other people, how did you get on removing the old cap of your replacement filler pipe? I love to see the old parts of places I visit, the architecture is so much more intricate, interesting and beautiful than more modern stuff. Do enjoy your chill out days Ian, no point working through it all in those amazing and beautiful places, and with all that sun, though its been scorching back here in England too, so do take care of you both.
Another nice episode of this road trip. Le Mans Classic 2020, I hope I can go there. Nice old town of Le Mans. What about the filler cap without a key?
'Never going to attract Russian tourists....' CLASSIC!

An route "breakdown covered friends" live along could be good! Check your bank, too. I'm with Barclays and have the "Travel Pack' It's well worth about £12 per month. (etc)...
Thanks but my bank doesn't offer that.
Where as I would ordinarily simply exclaim, “Bugger!”... I think “Sacrebleu!” shall be an better choice, seeing as being as you are very much in France!
A beautiful trek round LeMans with it's f pointed spires or discarded perfume bottles.
Lovely views of the town of Le Mans, ancient & modern 👍🏻"Never going to attract Russian tourists" 😄
it was at Ferté-Vidame in Eure-et-Loir for the centenary of Citroën.
I was there too.
A lovely adventure .....
Ok Ive got to know, how did you get that fuel cap off the new filler pipe?
This is of some importance to me too!
My guess would be that not every key was unique for the filler cap, so just going around the 2CV parking lot there asking everyone to try their key has a good chance of success.
I was just about to ask him that and your comment was top of the list!
Yes Citroen have always taken 2CV security measures seriously!
Love the Mr. Messy T shirt lol
Gg Morris....yes it passed with flying colours 👍👍
its a shame you missed Central old Amsterdam, its kinda similar (but with Canals too) and even more rustic and beautiful, you'd luv it
Such a shame to see beautiful old cars left like that, to rot away unloved.
No breakdown cover?! You Sir are a braver man than I. Well I have no breakdown cover either but I rarely venture out of Norfolk!
