    *As a Dutchman myself I find it very amusing and exciting that you are here!* We've got a lot of car enthusiasts over here, especially classic cars are quite popular so I hope that you are enjoying yourself and don't be scared to start a conversation with someone. _We all speak the universal language of cars..._

    Hypercars and lap times have never really done it for me. I've always believed that true car people care more about embracing flaws rather than brandishing perfection. If you can't smile at Elly, you're probably not a car person.

    I tend to think that the ferry is the only way to travel to the contient - there's something emotional about undocking and seeing the coast recede, and the same with arrival. A train in a drain doesn't have the same romance.
    As an aside, i find the internal floors on them VERY slippery - i'm always on a bike, but gloss painted steel affords not enough traction IMO - or maybe I'm just a worrier. Bon voyage!

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Totally agree about ferries, a timeless way to travel. Unlike commercial aircraft, which are a variety of legalised abuse. Anyway, Harwich for the Continent! (Frinton for the incontinent).

    Lots of tinkering lot of driving, but well worth it, I think. It seemed like a journey on its own, just getting on and off the ferry, and the streetlights as you came out on to the main road were really nice, some thought in there design. About the pinking - did you try a _Colortune_ plug, Ian? Had mine 45 years. If anyone doesn't know, you swap one normal spark plug for a clear-glass-top plug, attach the periscope tube and HT cable then peer down into the cylinder, looking for blueish explosions on tickover. An orange flame can mean over-lean mixture or, on cracking open the throttle, a duff acceleration pump... etc., and you can tweak timing and carb variables as need be. _Fun times!_

    Nice start to the voyage, pigeons in the way notwithstanding! Looked like lovely weather in Wales! The ferry trip made me (again) nostalgic for the one (major) part of Seattle/Pacific Northwest I miss: The ferries. Being able to walk aboard one on the Seattle waterfront on a Summer evening, cross the Sound, and return to see the city all lit up...I will watch your further episodes of this odyssey, and hope it is going well! Enjoyed the road test of the little Datsun as well!

    And so the great adventure begins, an adventure of truly 'Epic' proportions....comparable to Hillary and Tenzing conquering of Everest...to man's first steps on the moon...To the wright brothers first powered flight at kitty-hawk.... The one and only incomparable 'HubNut's attempt to traverse half way across Europe in a much loved and Meticulously maintained, (well Sort of), Citroen 2CV affectionately named 'Elly' ...What could possibly go wrong?

      I was brought up and educated about the 'moon landing' but in the past 4/5 years I've seen a lot of information and evidence to say that man has never stepped foot on the moon so I now have an open opinion as to whether it was a hoax or not a bit like man made global warming.

    2CV trip action. Looking at images from Goodwood Festival of Speed weekend I noticed a grey and black 2CV hooning up the hill obviously the driver had watched your 2CV hooning videos

    I did what you're doing now back in March. It was pouring cats and dogs, fun nonetheless. Keep those videos coming.

    When I was at the Conservatoire Citroën a few days ago they were busy preparing cars for the event at La Ferté-Vidame. Apparently they're shutting the Conservatoire for a few days as so many of its cars will be there! I might treat myself to the new breed of rose called 'Passion Citroën" in due course :)

    This is an amazing adventure. I have never traveled to another country. Probably never will. I hope your trip goes fabulously, especially after the trials you went through to get this far.

      I'm close to retiring now. We thought about traveling around the U.S. first. Never really done much of that either. Overseas travel seems a bit scary right now with all the unrest everywhere though perhaps Holland or Switzerland might be good places to go. Then there is the money part. That too is an issue.
