    About 25 years ago while attending a seminar with DH (it was for his work), I sat with a bunch of paper and a ruler and designed a bunch of quilt blocks very similar to this but never got around to actually making them because of the problem with the excess fabric in the corner. My plan was to make them with all solids due to the Amish influence in the area where DH grew up. I think you just solved my problem and I will be making another quilt soon.

    Beautiful block Tracy, just looks complicated when you do the first block but actually straight forward. May I suggest if you do another one that when you put in the small bottom corner piece that you cut away the muslin and ends of block but leave both layers of you accent piece. You have a double layer with the rest of the block and this will give you the same at the bottom. Instead of a single layer , you have the same strength all the way around.

    • @crystalrose.wellness
      @crystalrose.wellness 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@christenakavanagh5696 I was wondering about that. You could fold the muslin under and cut off all the little strips and then it would be like the rest! That’s a great idea!

    Tracy, glad you're feeling better! I have a tip for you. If you go to a U-Haul store that sells packing materials for packing and moving your house you can buy a box of wrapping paper. It's usually around $30 for 500 sheets. The paper is actually unprinted newspaper and is about the size of a newspaper folded in half vertically - so good sized. If you lower your stitch length, the paper tears away easily. You could make the block you showed us using the paper as foundation. I've also used it as a stabilizer when doing machine applique. I think it would be good to spread around your table when using basting spray, too. Thanks for your hard work! Love your channel!😊

  • @vickiemeisinger9632

    Tracy, from the time I was a young teenager, I was drawn to “artistic” and “non-traditional” designs, so when you started laying out the quilt block with these sharp angles and brighter colors, compared to a Lincoln, log pattern, quilt or strictly repetition of 4 inch squares with a binding, I was thrilled❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️. I love the unusual angle design, and I have some projects that I need to finish but I am going to plan on doing this early to late spring, hopefully this year. Even if I don’t finish it by December, if I just do one block a week, I will have it done by next spring, and that’s OK with me because I am an artist, and I am very creative and work with a variety of mediums and I would love to actually make one of these quilts. I’m not sure that I have a favorite pattern. I think I like just the angled sharp lines and I think I am leaning towards having all of the design going in One Direction and not turning it but there’s time to decide that once I pick fabric out and lay it out. That makes a big difference and often times I find that I change. my design once I lay it out or rough sketch it visually to be able to see if that is what I really want or not.
    I am also hoping to make twin size quilts for my two granddaughters for their birthdays in April and June of this next year 2024 and I want to start on a watercolor quilt, which I have always wanted to do since I am a painter myself. So I think most seamstresses/quilters will have more than one project going at the same time and I am no different than anyone else. I am new to your channel and I am glad that I ran across this video. I have a sister that quilts big time and I am going to forward it to her. I think she did something similar last year, and it had more angled cuts than this one, but she said that it was very very challenging, and would NEVER do another one again!
    Thank you for a very enjoyable video and also thank you for the excellent camera work that made it easy to follow what you were saying we needed to do versus what we were seeing behind the camera.

    This is a very doable pattern, and you’re a great instructor. I have a question about that bottom corner piece, since it’s not backed like the rest of the block when we cut it away. Can we sew it in place and then just cut off the remainder of the block fabric and leave the backing?

    What a beautiful quilt block. The ombre fabric makes it pop!.Hoping you, Tracie, are Taking care, too!!! You sure do a great class. I love your "It doesn't matter" approach. We're doing these quilts for ourselves or people who are just thrilled to receive a quilt and haven't a clue if we messed up someplace along the line. That's how life is. God bless you. My computer says you're at 152K. Congratulations. (maybe that's views?) All of the patterns were gorgeous. Maybe the last one was my favorite.

    Also the mattress toppers make really nice heavy batting. I wash in hot bleached water.

    these layouts are stunning! You've done a lot of hard work on pattern! Could you give us yardage amounts of each color? I didn't see it on the pattern download. Thank you !

    I am doing a paper piece kaleidoscope quilt right now smaller blocks, but the same idea. All scrappy, and I never thought of turning the blocks. Really like the third layout!!
