Public Enquiries have always been the instruments by which Governments avoid taking action. "We will have to await the outcomes of the Public Enquiry" being the customary response from Ministers.
This goes back to Thatcher and her irresponsible, across the board Privatisation of all the Public Utilities which we remain suffering from: the so called Water Companies and the Railways.

The Inquiry identifies systemic, cultural failure and criminality. However, government action is delayed and limited, whilst required prosecution of executives and solicitors is diffused or impracticable due to their involvement in the Inquiry itself. Punishment will be delayed (sic) for ever, whilst many similar Quangos continue to be lead and governed by the same cynical, complacent and ignorant Whitehall elite, serving only themselves and political masters.

Edward Henry's devastating summing up is delivered with an overwhelming force of personality allied with a dogged determination to shine the brightest of lights on those responsible for their irresponsible duplicity, total arrogance, and continuing denial to the victims of this scandal. He asks whether the Post Office has changed its culture, then answers his own question with a resounding NO, IT HAS NOT. Henry's delivery is a masterclass which should be used as a benchmark for all future cases of this type. Well done sir.

Unfortunately, it is the justice system itself that the wealthy and powerful have learned to exploit for their own benefit.
Attritional bureaucracy has risen to become one of the most effective tools used by the wealthy and powerful to prevent the ordinary citizen from ever seeing justice done.
And the crazy thing is that the courts are all part of this.
Delays for the most inane and sometimes completely irrelevant things are routinely sought (and granted).
Appeals are submitted on the flimsiest of grounds, yet they still get heard and the number of legal representatives required to continue the matter also grows.
The point is to bleed a plaintiff so profusely, that they're left with no option but to either settle for a paltry sum, or worse, withdraw their complaint entirely.
This is not justice being done.
This is merely using one's superior power and wealth to overwhelm their opponent.
And to think that there is supposed to be a foundational legal principle that all people are treated equally in the eyes of the law.
Judges should be allowed to prevent such tactics from being used . . . but are either none-the-wiser or simply don't care that this is the strategy being used to such great success.

This case has exposed several faults in our society, including that our legal system has not really moved on from Georgian/Hogarthian times when starving youngsters were hung for stealing a loaf of bread i.e. big companies = good, whereas the little people = bad, not to be trusted, and up to malfeasance. Solicitors recommending the SPM's plead guilty when no money trail for the supposed stolen funds could be found or proven is quite horrifying.

Sadly, Everything you need to know about British society is embodied, typified and virtually personified, in the filthy behaviour of ALL societal groups in relation to the “Post Office Scandal” - a systemic and intentional Stalinesque injustice continuously weeping for over 20 years. 1 Parliamentarians: Criminal disinterest in the whole affair. 2 Corporations/Post Office: Criminal violence against innocent people to protect their own “names” and fortunes. 3 Judiciary: Criminal negligence of duty to ensure that JUSTICE is actually done. 4 The Legal “Profession”: Greed and Graft without a smidgen of honour. 5 Police: Totally failed to uphold the law. Abject failure to research or uncover criminal behaviour. 6 Fujitsu: Criminal failure to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about its Horizon software failures. 7 Finally, The Timid and Weak People: Millions upon millions of people who merely watched on - much like the Nazis did when the gas ovens spewed smoke…. DID NOTHING.

That was a powerful and heart rendering speech that lawyer made there. He captured the entire matter succinctly and all you could do was feel utterly disappointed that such an atrocious event could ever have happened in a country such as the UK. A country that at one time stood alone against HitIer's entire regime in the fight for freedom. Such cases as this have the power to utterly destroy a people's belief in their own country. This is why they are these cases are so dangerous and should be punished severely, condemned utterly and compensation given generously. If that is not done then sit back and watch that nation fall.
"A nation does not fall when there are barbarians on its borders.
A nation does not fall when foreign armies are invading its lands
A nation does not fall when its enemies are at the gates of its cities.
No; a nation falls when its own people stop believing in it"
Marcus Aurelius said that 1800 years ago; UK Govt should take heed of the warning.
