Compensation………this is not what should be first addressed. These people have first been robbed! They have been forced to pay stated sums that the post office say was missing. It’s not difficult to prove how much in each case………First PO must repay this stolen money….that can be done in weeks. Then, the postmasters deserve compensation. In the final statement today PO barrister, on behalf of PO said they had learned lessons, and would act differently…….all the while other lawyers representing PO are arguing to down pay compensation claims, stalling and driving postmasters into settling for substantially less money, because they are just worn out The PO remains, imo, disingenuous.

The vast majority of prosecutions were carried out by the post office. That is one of the central causes of this whole thing.Very few were referred to and handled by the CPS. I do not know how many exactly and what proportions were found guilty or not

The CPS scrutinizes all Private Prosecution against the tests of whether they should take them over and pursue them more vigorously, or take the them over and shut them down in the public interest. Starmer's CPS decided that it was in the public interest for these prosecutions to continue. Did Starmer know about it? He has been absolutely clear that he knew nothing of any of the important cases before the CPS in his time as DPP. Nothing at all.

It is so obvious that there must be something wrong if hundreds are going to court but the stats were not getting through to anyone in authority. I have used this analogy on other presentations. 10,000 new cars are made. 1,000 crash due to brake failure. Conclusion by manufacturer. Nothing wrong with the brakes because 9,000 have not crashed it has to be the drivers lying.The courts then find these 1000 drivers guilty of dangerous driving.

Why has this scandal taken over 20 years and still not resolved? Some people have committed perjury, some perverted the course of justice, some have died, some became bankrupt, some have suicided, some carry on the fight for justice. They are people who need closure and balance in their lives. The guilty need to be punished, the postmasters and sub postmasters need remuneration for what they have experienced at no fault of theirs. The Prime Minister needs to step in, stand up, show some leadership and recompense the postmasters and sub postmasters for their suffering!

Unfortunately, this is just the typical practice and culture in the majority UK large companies. It’s what the UK is now known for:- A systemic culture of covering up and putting corporate reputation above having any honestly or integrity. There was no money missing, there were no thefts, it was a computer error. The software used by POL was Horizon. It was faulty. That's what's so awful. Subpostmasters were being made to pay back non-existent losses. Subpostmasters were being prosecuted by POL for non-existent thefts. That means that the excess money is with Post Office Ltd., but where abouts in their finances nobody knows, apparently. That's what the entire scandal is about. POL used private prosecutions to go after subpostmasters for non-existent thefts, testifying in court that Horizon was "robust", yet they'd known about bugs, errors and defects in Horizon for years and hid this from defence and courts.

My conclusion, briefly put, is that the two speakers who were spot on, as the Brits like to say, was Mr. Henry who perfectly described the atrocities that took place, and the speaker for the NFPS, Ms. Wals (??) who laid oud a very concise path forward.
