The composer for this game is Matt Simmons, also known as 4mat, he used to do a ton of tracker music for various stuff, I recommend listening to his other works, his original song Paper Dolls goes hard
the supersponge ost should've been a standard to how a spongebob video game ost should sound like, it sounds like it can fit the SpongeBob cartoon at that point in time *_very_* well
There's a theory that, for some reason, Man Ray and Iron Dogfish go switched around. Since they both have the same behavior of just walking back and fourth.
2:28 Industrial Jellyfish Fields' and Oil Rigs' level theme is genuinely one of the best original songs I've ever heard from a licensed game. And not just because it's the outro music Grayfruit uses/used in some of his stream highlight videos
To this day, it still baffles me that, instead of making Manray the final boss of the game, they instead make him a generic enemy and then make the real final boss some made-up creature with no backstory and no way in general for the player to get invested in Spongebob's journey to take down the Iron Dogfish.
Hey, just want to say thank you for covering all these obscure games. I would prefer if you did more obscure flash games but I don’t mind. There’s tons underneath the surface.
I can never see Supersponge the same way again after seeing the unused artwork… Also will you ever review Avalanche at Plankton’s Peak? I loved that game but it was highly difficult
Fun fact: the theme used for the lava fields opening Melody is strikingly similar to the them for labyrinth zone from the master system and game hear version of sonic 1
I remember I used to play this game so much as a kid. I freaking hate those weird yellow squids with sunglasses! I remember I showed my mom this game once and she got dizzy watching it, lol.
This is one of the only cases where the console and GBA versions of a SpongeBob game actually somewhat resemble each other. I grew up with the GBA versions and this is the only one where I can look at the console version and directly compare elements to an equivalent in the version I played. Even the soundtrack is the same (albeit very compressed in the GBA version) The parasitic worm boss is way worse in the GBA version tho. It goes offscreen and then can come at you from any direction with almost no time to react, this is also the only viable window to hit it so you have to not only avoid getting hit by it but also attack in the right spot as it comes at you. The karate glove is the main attack in the GBA version though, it is always what you have by default unless another item is given in the level. And it has a traditional health system rather than a Sonic-like "ring" system. The spatulas there merely give you an extra life if you collect enough of them. All the levels are the same settings though. Lava Fields was the bane of my existence as a kid, as there was a section with very tiny platforms you had to jump along and fire that came up between them that had knockback and would knock you into the lava if you weren't perfectly centered on each platform.
As many flaws this game has, major ones at that, I still have fond memories of this game. The music was awesome and catchy and the graphics have that old school charm of PS1 2d sprites and graphics This and Revenge of Flying Dutchman are pretty nice games for the classic era of the show Also i find it sort of odd how SpongeBob's voice direction here and Operation Krabby Patty is way more higher and more child like than how he sounds in the show (who still sounds like his season 1 and 2 voice direction)
Looking forward to the RotFD video! (FYI PS2 is actually the superior version of the game compared to GCN, GCN just doesn't have any loading bug that crashes the game despite being the buggier/more broken game)
You need to talk about the gba spongebob games. They were my childhood but I did not like them that much as a kid that much though because many of them were just mediocre.
It's kind of weird knowing that this is a game that released on both PS1 and the GameBoy Advance, and only those two I guess the sprite-based nature of it made it kind of pointless for it to get a PS2 version or something
Yeah considering the PS2 was backwards compatible and this was a year or so after the PS2 came out, they most likely made it a PS1 game to maximize profits as a lot of people still had a PS1 in 2001-2002
in my opinion this game is pretty odd (i remember playing it on a PS1 emulator, almost gave up on the paleolithic levels) but the music is the reason to continue playing it. There are certain songs that could pass as anything but a track from a licensed game
Classic. Name 1 thing good bout this trash. Since no enemy is releated to spongebob Bad enemy placement Ehhh ish plot And do i have to remind what climax released out after the game. It had pics of spongebob and patrick uhhhhhhh. Lets jsut call it. Rule 34

After playing SuperSponge, nickelodeon ported almost all computer and console games to GBA in a similar style until 2007 years

Squidward: *pull out the book of grudges Vol.1*
First spongebob game I played. Sandy's tree level on the gameboy always made me rage lmao

The first level of world 2 really leaves an impression. It teaches you a lot of brutal lessons about using the Reef Blower, I remember dying a lot.

SpongeBob having no limbs for his dialogue picture is so damn funny to me for some reason

I remember playing super sponge alot when I was a kid, I would vaguely remember the gameplay, I mostly remember playing sandy treedome level
This was my first game ever like I played this before I even learned how to read, this takes be back.
I can never see Supersponge the same way again after seeing the unused artwork…
Also will you ever review Avalanche at Plankton’s Peak? I loved that game but it was highly difficult
Same whe. I hear the name I think of the nfsw art in the files
Fun fact: the theme used for the lava fields opening Melody is strikingly similar to the them for labyrinth zone from the master system and game hear version of sonic 1
Ironic, considering it's a lava level and a water level respectively
3:53 Rest In Peace, legend.
Your style reminds me of those old TH-cam review channels from the 2000s, and i absolutely love it
I played this when I was a kid and just two years ago I got it again with three other games on one official cartridge thank you for the nostalgia!
I remember I used to play this game so much as a kid. I freaking hate those weird yellow squids with sunglasses!

6:47 Thank god I’m not the only one who knew that the rock was a reference to Nature Pants, I feel validated!
I've remember those two games, SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge and Nicktoons Unite. Only on the GBA.
Obscure but also an underrated classic.
15:52 welcome to industrial Fields the place where Man Ray supposedly cloned an army of himself and the real man ray is probably on vacation
*Those images...*
This game should be remembered with other ps1 classics like rayman and crash bandicoot
Can you review Revenge of the Flying Dutchman? It's also an obscure SpongeBob Classic
agree

Mission failed successfully
Are we doing the Game Boy advanced version of this game that'd be fun to look at wix the first Game Boy Advance game based on the franchise
Possibly! This is still new territory so I'm figuring out how to balance what I make between the console and flash games.
