I'll say some things in this video. Some of these are comments, and others are corrections. - There were more than two disks released for this game. There were around fifty, most of which were just prototypes of the game. - We don't exactly have everything, thanks to VSS destroying a lot of old files. - The earliest GBA build is actually November 8, 2000, which needs to be compiled on its own. It just features a moving camera. - Development on the game itself started in August 2000, when the only thing existing was the PSX version with some screen saying "SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS" bouncing around like a DVD screensaver. - We have a good amount of commits between August to October 2000, though not much can be ripped out of them thanks to deleted files. It's assumed to be just technical stuff. There's a milestone document ranging on what was completed in the game, so try checking that out. - The 11/28 build of SuperSponge GBA (or at the time called "SPONGEBOB'S INFLATED UNDERPANTS") was only less than a month into development. Development started on 11/8 for that version. - The "September 2000" screenshot is actually a mockup. Several iterations of its 3DS MAX file are included in the dev disks. - You skipped tens of prototypes between the January and April protos. Not to worry, they're not very interesting (aside from using Yoshi Story music during February). - The levels splitting up also existed in the PSX version according to the source commits, but unfortunately, we don't have the files for those. We do have map exports though! - You seem to have skipped the 5/2 build, which has even earlier dialogue (and no speech). - The "ground pound" move is titled "Butt Bounce" according to the source. It's consistent everywhere on the disks. - Early GBA versions did have similar devs to the PSX version, though I believe the final version was from a different group. A "soft reset" happened in its development in June 2001. - The game over music is actually unused in the PSX version :) - The map test screenshot is another mockup, but the level WAS in the game at some point as evidenced by a level editor screenshot. ~ MDTravis
Spongebob making a dolphin sound when ground pounding implies he's swearing every time he does that, like, imagine playing mario 64 and every time you punched mario just said "Fuck.".
I hopped on when the trend started. Because it has that similar unnerving vibe like SM64. (The every copy of supersponge is personalised lol video also helped kickstart the trend)
Something that fascinates me about the early gba builds, is that the earliest gba build was compiled before the gba was even released globally, being compiled in late 2000, while the gba came out in mid 2001 in the U.S.
It's hard to say what's the funniest part of this video, but there are some pretty funny moments: • The beta dubbing voicelines at 4:55 • The "Ripped My Pants" Voice Lines: At 15:05, the video plays some unused voice lines. SpongeBob's "I guess I ripped my pants again" is pretty funny! • The "Power Rangers" Spreadsheet: At 21:08, Yoshibyte finds a spreadsheet that appears to be for a Power Rangers game, which is super funny considering the video's about SpongeBob. • The "Thermal Tunnels" Screenshot: At 22:31, the video shows an early version of "Thermal Tunnels" from the game, and Yoshibyte is able to recognize it right away. It's really up to your sense of humor, but those are some of the more chuckle-worthy parts!
I also love this game. It's very underrated, And the soundtrack is also great too. I'm working on an ARG video based on the "Every Copy Is Personalized" ARG of this game. I'll send the link here when the video comes out!
Thanks for documenting this I had no idea about a lot of the stuff in this game like the emulators and the Sea Life stuff so yeah this game is interesting and everytime I hear more about it it just keeps getting more interesting
If you want to know The reason how they drew Patrick getting perished by SpongeBob is by opening the file “SpongeBob s**t List” [THE FILE IS A COMPLAINT OF ONE OF TEH DEVS PF MAKEING TEH GAME]
Ok this demo is off the limits mostly when people start making a game they first start to do 2d arts or sprites then make the game 3dbut this one they did 3d models to be the beta and yet the game became 2d
I would be on par with this! except for the fact that you forgot to say that some of the July 2001 builds do have a VERY different an early intro than the final and take clips from season 1 and not seasons 2-3 as we see in the final.
ngl, there is something genuinely lovely about this game I made a cover of the menu song last year, in the style of Sega Genesis using Furnace Tracker. It's not 100% authentic to the Genesis hardware, as I was able to add extra channels to the song in Furnace Tracker (the Genesis has 6 FM chiptune channels and 4 8-bit chiptune channels for the most part, but my song uses those 6 FM channels, 6 generic audio sample channels and I entirely ommited the 4 8-bit chiptune channels) I also played a bit of it and while there are better games out there, it's still an interesting piece of history. some of the music in the gba port got botched to hell

The fact that the devs of this game drew actual SpongeBob Rule 34 is wild.

This game has by far the weirdest development history I have ever seen for game, especially considering this is a licensed game

You forgot about one last unused track, which was supposedly going to be used at the cutscene when SpongeBob time travels to the stone age.

The "Big Top" music is used in the GBA version, as the credits theme.
I have NEVER seen a more beautiful recreation of the old super sponge legal screen.

Honestly the temporary voice clips are endearing to me. I wonder what the actress' name is.
one of the biggest videos this person has made
Actually Spongebob Supersponge was released in Europe in August 2001, NA, in November 2001, And in AU in 2002.
Your mic is pure torture. Really makes this a challange to watch.

The fact that they have Kyle saying "YOU BASTARDS"
me when i explain the history of supersponge
17:09 Excuse me? Why is Kyle an unused voice clip in the game?
Here's an (not really) interesting fact. The beta intro theme was reused in "Spongebob In Tehran", a Persian bootleg movie.

I dont like ships...but does this mean sandy likes spongebob....in a more deeper way?
Also, Battle for Bikini Bottom was on the PC and GBA, NOT a “console”.
I would be on par with this! except for the fact that you forgot to say that some of the July 2001 builds do have a VERY different an early intro than the final and take clips from season 1 and not seasons 2-3 as we see in the final.
