    Finally someone to support PPI over resolution, I'm so happy!!

    • @BRBWaffles
      @BRBWaffles 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's no reason to say that PPI or resolution are better or worse than one another. It depends on the use. According to the retina calculator, I have to sit 94cm from my 1080p display to achieve retina. If I had a 4K monitor with the same PPI, I'd have to sit the same distance from the screen to achieve retina, but the picture would be much larger. If I had a 4K monitor of the same size, retina would be achieved much closer to the screen, but increasing my distance from the screen would have exponentially greater diminishing returns to my eyes. So, in my case, I like to relax in my chair with a controller and I usually sit about that distance anyway. With a 4K monitor with the same PPI, I'd get a much better gaming experience at that distance because of the larger screen. However, at that distance, a 4K monitor of the same size would yield no benefit to me. It depends on the use. If you sit close, maybe higher PPI is better. If you sit further back, higher PPI won't be as important as overall resolution and screen in most cases.

    • @eeshaan1539
      @eeshaan1539 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what...
      Given a specific Pixel density one can freely talk about screen sizes
      If you are talking about monitors (say), you can first decide the density you want, and then look at the screen sizes, rather than looking at the resolution and judging the display quality. Just because 720p is outdated doesn't mean a display with 720p res is bad, it might look better than 1080p, provided the screen isn't too big
      Viewing distance is another thing (of course it matters)

    • @BRBWaffles
      @BRBWaffles 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** That's just not correct. For example, a 1080p monitor at 24" and a 1440p monitor at 32" will have the exact same PPI. Increasing the resolution does not necessarily affect PPI.

    • @eeshaan1539
      @eeshaan1539 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short, a screen with high PPI is always good and with some experience one can understand how sharp the display would be, but given resolution alone its not possible to know the sharpness of the display

      Large screens are not good. So stop wasting your money on all those 80"+ TVs or projectors.

  • @rustam11albinsky
    @rustam11albinsky 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Everything is right, except the fact the gaming in higher resolutions will actually result in higher quality overall, like less aliasing and more detailed textures. I'm talking about rendering detail, not only pixel density.
    Even using the same 1080p monitor, rendering a game at 4k resolution scaled down to 1080p (I dont have 4k monitor) will look much more detailed. It's not all about pixel density and sitting distance ratio.
    But that depends on the game too (though even old games like Titan Quest look significantly better on 4k downscaled to 1080p than just 1080p).

    A few days ago I came across one of your videos by pure coincidence and now i've been all afternoon long watching the rest of them. I consider myself a person who has certain knowledge about the topics your channel is based on but the way you explain those topics makes it so simple to understand that it feels as though i was learning all these things again. I seriously hope you continue making these videos because i really want to watch them!
    PS: i don't usually write this kind of comments but since you are starting on TH-cam, i thought that maybe it would make you feel great to see that people really get and enjoy the content you create for them.
    PSS: "Thanks for learning with us"? Awesome punchline man.

    Another awesome video! My 900p laptop approves. On that note, what would you think of having a video on LCD types? or did you already have this? there are dozens of types of IPS, and there are some TN panels with better colors and contrast. So maybe an explanation to the madness would be nice!

    It's very noticeable when I turn my games to 1080p on my 28 inch 4K Asus monitor. I play fairly close to the screen usually about a foot to a foot and a half. I also really notice the difference in quality in your GTAV clips side by side when watching your video in 1 quarter of my screen (for 1 to 1 pixel ratio at 157 pixels per inch) The best thing about 4k though is actually for reading. the text is so crisp that it's like reading it in a book.

    One little thing you forgot to mention is the fact higher resolution do improve picture quality in distant and fine details, even if the shape is not clearly distinguishable. In the lower-res case you are limited by the sampling algorithm(s) to determine the final color, where in higher-res case it is the eye that does the sampling, much like in it would in the real world (no matter good or bad eyesight). Higher-res image will always be more correct with much less rendering artifacts.

    Thank you for the video, hopefully your information is correct ;). If i buy a new monitor i will definitly take a closer look at my environment. How far do i sit away from the screen, my eyesight (i now know what the meaning of the numbers is next to the seeing test) and which resolution is comfortable, to hopefully save money.
    Please include the source of the charts you're using in the video-description. I think that you can run the "resolutuion-test" (4:28) on a FullHD Monitor, say it next time, not everybody got a 4K monitor. ;)
    I also would recommend that you include the source of the charts you're using in the video-description.
    Anyways, i enjoy watching these kind of videos and i really like the balance between your voice and the music (music not too loud, your voice not too quiet)
    Keep going ;)

    My future monitor (awaiting shipping) is at 1920x1080, 21" (around 110 ppi based on the ppi calculator from your link) and my gaming distance from the monitor is around 23 inches only.
    From what I understand in your video, the real benefit of 1080p is not about gaming from a further distance? Then what is the benefit of larger resolutions(say switching from 720p to 1080p)? PPI increase?

    I gave you a thumbs up even though you missed a very important consideration: screen real estate. Even if two screens are 'retina' from the viewing distance they will be used at, the higher resolution screen will have more screen real estate, which makes multitasking _much_ easier.

    I personally like the idea of getting the best monitor or tv you can afford. I think it is worth the money to cover your bases and maybe help with a little future proofing.

    Totally random off topic question..
    I purchase some "high quality" thermal pads... 17 kw and 11 kw... They cost a alot for little pieces of silicon..The 17kw means it has a higher themal Conductivity... And 11 is lower... Although I'm sure u know this
    I was plan on replacing the themal pad on Both my GPU VRM and MY mother Board VRM... I don't have enough of the 17 kw to go on both so my plan is put the pad on the one that will benefit the most from lower temperature... The GPU is a water cooled r9 290 and the mother board is Gigabyte Ud3 990fx Rev 4.0.
    Anyways the question is which on of these VRM generate More heat CPU or GPU VRM... Which would benefit more from lower temps.
