This video shows an onscreen overlay of my keyboard hits so people can better understand what (feathering/pumping/spamming) the F key to raise their success rates as a lockpicker. Hope this video explains more of what advanced lockpickers are doing, and that your journey as a lockpicker grows!

I have never seen a explanation like this especially with the lock closing and opening. Best lock picking video ever in my opinion. Only 2 things I will add the developers have a lockpicking chart where it shows you that the better the lockpick is the more you can hit the wall before it breaks and the higher your thievery is the bigger the sweet spot will be so you can feather easier and with advanced you get one more second in time. With no skill its very frustrating so time and patience is key. Thank you very much Motex. Liked and shared ;]

I don't think spamming F works, anymore. I noticed it will begin to ignore keypresses, if you do it too quickly.

I’m glad I got the point across. Whenever I tried explaining it in text on discord or in voice people would tell me they needed visual. Then the keyboard overlay idea helped.
I have been struggling with learning how to pick locks. We are wiping our server so when I get back in I am gonna try this method for sure. Thanks for sharing this tutorial with us !

I think the new people's problem is no one explains that you need to physically move your mouse left or right. Theres nothing in game that explains it which there should be a tutorial. You did it really well. I'm glad I looked it up because I almost completely gave up on lockpicking even though I'm advanced in it....
Great video. Key cam is a big help. Think I’ve been a bit heavy on the F key once I find first opening. Only took medium thievery and about 5% of way to advanced. Time to get back into hitting that lock picking board.

Great video I have the f key bound to my side mouse button would this make it harder to feather ? Would I be better using the keys on my keyboard as I can push the lighter compared to a click button on my mouse ? Subbed for sure 😊

so the core info is that you will be able to see differences in how far the lock moves even without it hitting the wall? that would indicate that given youre pumping at a stable frequency the lock should move faster the closer you are to the unlock-spot?
You're def a lockpicker. lol. That's a great question. Frequency is def a big thing. Too fast and the anti-spam code kicks in and forces it to hit the wall, break, or reset....which can look like lag or feel like it. If your doing fast but not too fast without hitting the walls too much yes locks will open easier. Im struggling to explain this I guess but if you find a rhythm you can avoid the timer more, and avoid hitting the walls often. Bringing your unlock ratio up.
This probably wasn't a best reply but I struggle a bit to explain it myself. I literally have practiced lockpicking for probably over 100 hours by now on my account.
@@mrMotex do you know wether a Joystick or steering wheel could be used to control the picks Position? That could give you a nice visual confirmation of its position without the movement of the lock itself in it.
Great Video! I have my lockpicking set to 4, I find it suits my mouse dpi, but I do still struggle with gold. What's your setup? I'd like to try what others do. Best video by far! Cheers
I don't have a lot of desk space so I'm set at 20 in game sensitivity, and my DPI at 1400. When I'm doing bad, I shift down to 800.

What I dont get is why everyone on the video has more tries when they "hit the wall" as you said. My lockpicks always break on the 6th hit. Your lockpicks dont break even on the 8th hit. Why is that? Im tapping really lightly. My thievery is advanced. No gloves. Advanced picks
Does laying down help? I hear no gloves on help. I find it easier to use the button on the side of the mouse. Mine is used to slow down the mouse. Guess it better for when sniping so you don't pan side to side to far.

i have 60% basic thievery and it takes to much time to do it like that on iron locks ?? and on top of that lock close imediately sometimes when relising f key for no reason you mybe know why ??

@@jksb4172 depends how much you like moving your mouse. i would try 14-20 maybe? youll know what you like just mess with it and practice a lot. you could also do like 10 golds with one setting, then 10 on another and write down your stats. might help
make sure mouse acceleration isnt in in windows too.

Is there any keyboard/mouse combo that you would recommend? I recently got a different keyboard with keys that aren’t so tall that don’t have to be pressed as far for the key action to work🤷🏻♂️…seemed like on my previous keyboard the F key would stick at times…great video ty love your gameplay along with the guardians on se 👍
You need a mouse with changeable DPI. I use the Logitech G502 Hero. As for keyboard, the top lockpicker a use the APEX Pro. The apex kB let’s you change the timings for key press, which help use less times on picks. This gives you more hits for the initial probing, then helps with hitting walls as you find the sweet spot. Right now I have a crappy HyperX membrane keyboard, which I’m told is terrible for lockpicking. So I’ll be upgrading soon and will make a video on it if theirs significant change in my ratios with settings.
Awsome guide! Is it even worth trying to open golden locks with improvised lockpick? Or is it just a waste of screwdrivers? I have tried on the practise board and it takes me alot of tries before i get one open😅
In the beginning yes. Use the advanced, then when you get good just start practicing with the other two. Itll make you even better with the adv lockpick eventually.
Hey man, thanks for the content. Im having an issue of when to actually start moving the mouse left and right. Is it in between F presses? Or is it at the same time as you are pressing F? sometimes the lockpick will snap back to the middle when I am moving my mouse while tapping F. thanks again

Which mouse sensitivity ingame do you prefer for lockpicking ? And which dpi on your mouse? Thanks
I would say I'm a bit of an oddball compared to other lockpickers but IN GAME SENSE at 20, and my DPI at 1400. I drop down to 800 if I'm having a bad day. Most lockpickers I know are in the 400-600 range though.

@@JonA_GER Medium to Advanced is about 400 Golds at 250xp per gold. Depends if you want to grind that. Yes it makes a huge difference.

Can you select the specific tools to use from the inventory. Say I wanna use an old screwdriver and a crafted lock pick, but I also have a yellow screwdriver and and a red lock pick in my bag... is there a way to choose which to use? Thanks for the vid
Yes their is actually. I haven’t played with it too much but each clothing acts diffferent but I’ll explain the hiking bag from what I’ve seen. The higher up the hiking bag the tool is it gets grabbed first. So put the improvised on top, advanced on bottom. Sometimes it messes up, also when you put in different clothing the order is different. I prefer handing it to someone, or if I’m alone I do it the slow right click put in hand way which kills momentum.
Hey Motex, awesome video, I have my "lockpicking sens. " set to 10-12 for Gold locks , i have been hitting them more often now, what is your lockpicking sens. at? and lowering your In game Sens. will help also i seen in other comments?

Will you please make a new video, on gold and silver locks. Not only talking us through this but also showing us your mouse and keyboard on screen as you pick, including the settings.
It is impossible for me to pivotal gold locks, with advanced pick and black screw driver and advanced thievery.
Like how to you find the soft spot, and then once I find it, it always slips past it, or I've found the spot after too many attempts so it always breaks before I can even start to try to feather.
Do you have a pressure sensitive keyboard?
Actually I have a crappy membrane keyboard. Top lockpicker a who do golds in 3 or less tries consistently use mechanical kb”s that you can adjust timing and have less latency then most keyboards. I’ll see what I can do thank you
Hey motex.. starting to do killboxes solo (want to have that ability) so I've got one more question.. should I *lower* the lockpicking mouse sensitivity in the settings? for the smaller sweetspots on the silver and mainly gold
The “In Game Sensitivity”? YES! I have mine at 20. I have run at 40. So my normal now is 1400 DPI & 20 in game sense. Normal lockpickers usually run about 400dpi and 20-40 in game sense. Pick something that fits your table space and practice. If it still sucks adjust. Don’t forget muscle memory takes a while to learn your new settings. If you flip flop too much without muscle memory you’ll end up like me….being able to pick at 400 800 1400 lol. Anyways, reach out if you need more help.
@@mrMotex For sure, of course and I don't think 'ended up like you', far as lockpicking, would be too bad :p. Great though because I was wondering on that when I started practicing killboxes the other day. My picks kept breaking because once I found the opening and would try to adjust for the secondary, I'd over shoot with the slightest move of my mouse and break it.
Do you change your dpi for lockpicking?
Yes. I play most pvp games at 400. For lockpicking in scum I switch to 1400 dpi when I'm at the lock, then I go back down to 400 when I'm done. I lockpick at a high dpi because I don't have a lot of table space.

I pick at a high DPI because I prefer it. 1200 DPI. In game sensitivity 20.
In the final in the secondary are you moving really slowly while tapping F? Or just normal movement while tapping F?
My issue is that I can handle the lockpick whiteout break the lockpick but I can't open it only like 2/10 trys.
So I want to know if I need to move really slowly in the secondary or a normal movement while im tapping F?.
I move in between taps. It’s a timing. If you move too much during f press it can break or reset. Looks like lag.

Yes 25XP rusty, 50xp Silver, 250xp gold on real servers.

To make it a little harder. I usually lay down on real raids for extra FPS
