    Thank you for this explanation, until now I have just been guessing by what looks right. I think I have been stopping about two inches from the end where I begin the toe decreases, but it was just by eye. My mother-in-law has a smaller foot and hubby and his brothers are slightly larger (it's a short family) so no pair of socks goes unhomed. Now maybe more of them will be for me 😊

    This is such great help. I do have a question as my socks have too many stitches on the top part of the foot and I don't know what to do. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Dear Jana, first of all thank you for your great tutorial. Clear and fun! You helped me to knit my first sock, a christmas present for my son.
    But I also would like to let you know that I think I found an error in the row by row instruction: the 1. row should start whit k1, ssk then knit to 3 stitches..... Insted it starts with the knit to 3 stitches part.

      If your beginning of the round is in the center of the back of the heel, then you'd knit it as written. If your beg of round is at the beginning of the needle, then you're right, you'd begin with k1, ssk

    Lost me on this one Jana but since I'm doing my socks two at a time and I'm still working the gusset I have time to figure it out, I hope

      How many stitches did you cast on? And did you measure your row gauge?

    • @juliefrench1392
      @juliefrench1392 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PurlTogether cast on 64 stitches gauge 8 sts per inch 10 rows per inch

      So the toe size you're knitting would be a "small" from the written instructions in the video description. If you have 10 rows per inch, and you'll need 23 rows to complete the toe, then the toe will take 2 1/3". Just subtract that 2 1/3" from the overall length of your foot. Does that make sense?

    OK, this may sound like a stupid question, but I'm a newbie here. So when I look at my foot, the big joint associated with my big tow (outside joint) goes straight up to the top of my big toe, with no decreasing or angling. Then makes an inverted L across the top of the second toe, but then decreases down from the third, fourth and pinky toe ... so shouldn't my sock do the same? Mind you, that would mean I'd be making a right-foot sock and a left-foot sock, so they work OK ... but that's what struck me after listening to this video. So I'd decrease on the pinky side, knit around on the big toe side with no decrease, until I get to the top, and kitchener stitch across the top of the big and second toe.... ugh. I might be over-thinking it.

      You could totally do that and create anatomically fitted toes. In fact, there are sock patterns designed for just this purpose. You might give Ravelry a search.

    Your use of the term “turn work” in the written instructions may be misleading. You proceed to next needle. Turn means to go to the inside of work as we do on the heel flap. Dianne

      Ah yes, I see how that could be confusing. Thanks for your input, I've edited the text.
