As a proud English man I have to say there is nothing anywhere in the world that compares to the Welsh national anthem being sung by 75000 proud Welsh men and women. Goosebumps all over.

100%. I wish ours was a bit more uniting, rather than just about the monarch!

As a proud Welshman, I appreciate this comment. Rugby is respect. Without wishing to be disrespectful I think England need their own anthem. Humbly I suggest Jerusalem. Having lined in Bath I know how proud you are too, and rightly so.

Wales v England is always huge in Cardiff! The old enemy.
This particular match ended 30 - 3 to Wales.
We had it won at the anthem!

You have done a very good reaction here, catching and describing the feeling (described in Welsh as 'hwyl' pronounced very roughly as 'whooil'). It means a stirring emotional energy, love of home and country, deep and spiritual. The reason why some may not be singing is perhaps they can not speak Welsh, or were not taught the Welsh words. There has been throughout UK history an uneasy relationship between the two countries which would take too long to explain here. Some UK citizens may not be aware that Welsh heritage runs in their family history alongside English, Scottish and Irish. Diolch yn fawr (thanks alot) for playing this.😂

Yeah, nobody judges anyone for not singing it because we know not everyone can speak Welsh- it may also be nerves about singing in public of feeling embarrassed to sing or fear of messing up.

Wales is the Land of Song, and the Welsh produce magnificent singers; they seem to be able to sing the really high notes, and many can sing harmony. The Welsh clergyman Gerald of Wales noticed the Welsh singing ability back in the 1100s!
This anthem is of course totally in Welsh - look up the words - which not all of the Welsh can speak, which may be why a few weren't singing.
Did you notice that in addition to the Welsh dragon - Y Ddraig Goch - the other symbol was three feathers, the ancient symbol of John, King of Bohemia, taken on by Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales, after the Battle of Crecy in 1346, along with the motto 'Ich Dien' (old German for 'I serve')?

The Welsh are the only Country where a crowd sounds like a choir.

As a Scot, in a thousand years we Scots couldn't write such a noble anthem as this, written by a father & son, it's about the language, the people, the culture, the land, everything a national anthem should be. Just immense!

Flower of Scotland is an amazing anthem too! At Murrayfield when the band just stops and allows the crowd to sing, goosebumps every time 😊

England doesn't have it's own anthem. Welsh anthem sings about its land. Scottish anthem sings about defeating the English centuries ago. English? We have to acknowledge the "Crown".

Scotland doesn't have an official anthem, we adopted the Corries folk song Flower of Scotland because of that. England should sing I vow to thee my country.

Singing is kinda our thing, we love it, you should check out our singing festivals which we call Eisteddfods, we even have an International Eisteddfod where people from all over the world come here to sing, it's a beautiful thing. As a runner I was never quite good enough to compete for Wales but I did compete for North Wales a few times and even that was a crazy feeling, the amount of pride you feel is overwhelming so I can't imagine what it's like being one of those guys waiting for battle to commence, it must be the best drug in the world!

I'm english/Irish. I'd argue both the Irish and the Welsh anthems are both incredibly emotional, same as Scotland. I love all corners of the United Kingdom but nobody does a national anthem quite like the Welsh

It translates to ‘Land of my Fathers’, but that isn’t what it’s called; it’s ’Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’.

I'm not absolutely sure but it's possible that the players that weren't singing didn't speak Welsh
